DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

WARNINGAccidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Read and follow all WARNINGS and AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS before working on air bag system or related components.

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), or air bag system, is designed to deploy air bags in a frontal or lateral (side) impact of moderate to severe force. SRS consists of an AIR BAG warning light, dual-stage driver-side air bag module, dual-stage passenger-side air bag module, right and left side curtain (head impact) air bag modules, side impact sensors, front impact sensors, seat belt pretensioner, occupant classification system, clockspring and Air Bag Control Module (ACM). SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

Turn ignition switch to ON position and observe AIR BAG warning light. AIR BAG warning light should illuminate for 6-8 seconds, then go out, indicating system is functioning properly. If AIR BAG warning light either fails to illuminate, blinks on and off, or illuminates and stays on, a system malfunction exists. Go to DIAGNOSTICS .
