Power Transfer Unit - Service Information: Removal & Installation Jeep Compass I рестайлинг 2

INSTALLATION

1. Roll the PTU (1) rearward and up to install.
2. Place the PTU in position on the transaxle.
3. Lower the front of the engine until the rear mount has aligned (1 and 2).
4. Remove a screw jack (2) from under the engine mount bracket (1)
5. Install the bolts (1) to hold the lower PTU to the transaxle. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-612751-S32524028542014043000000) .
6. Install the bolts (1) to hold the upper PTU to the transaxle. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-612751-S32524028542014043000000) .
7. Place the front-to-rear support in position on the vehicle.
8. Install the bolts (2) to hold the front-to-rear support to the front and rear crossmembers. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-612751-S32524028542014043000000) .
9. Install the trough bolt (1) to hold the front-to-rear support rubber isolator to the front crossmember. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-612751-S32524028542014043000000) .
10. Install the hidden trough bolt (1) to hold the engine mount to the engine cradle above the PTU (2). Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-612751-S32524028542014043000000) .
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Remove the bungie cord and slide the maniverter down and to the left into position on the engine.
13. Install the exhaust maniverter. Refer to «MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION 2.0L»(ref-612695-S36982636772014043000000) , or «MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION 2.2L»(ref-612696-S42863586412014043000000) , or «MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION 2.4L»(ref-612697-S19765572222014043000000) .
14. Raise the vehicle.
15. Install the bolts (1) to hold the exhaust pipe to the maniverter. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-612703-S34597715722014043000000) .
16. Install the rear prop shaft. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-612702-S26511483572014043000000) .
17. Install right front halfshaft. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-612699-S15550799112014043000000) .
18. Remove the fill plug (2) and add fluid to the proper level. Refer to «SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-612751-S32524028542014043000000) .
19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Install the air cleaner. Refer to «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION 2.0L»(ref-612695-S20867479562014043000000) , or «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION 2.2L»(ref-612696-S04649906092014043000000) , or «BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION 2.4L»(ref-612697-S06236736642014043000000) .
21. Install the engine cover.
22. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to «CABLES, BATTERY, REMOVAL»(ref-612722-S31867299902014043000000) .
23. Road test the vehicle to verify the repair.

REMOVAL

1. Remove PTU from transaxle. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-612751-S29693411912014043000000) .
2. Use a screw mounted in a slide hammer to remove seal. Be careful not to damage seal journal when removing seal.

1. Install the carrier case seal using Installer (special tool #9851, Installer, Seal) and Handle (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal).
2. Install the PTU. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-612751-S20033896222014043000000) .

1. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-612702-S19576264132014043000000) .
2. Using a screwdriver remove the output seal.

1. Install the output shaft seal using Installer (special tool #9851, Installer, Seal) and Handle (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal).
2. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-612702-S26511483572014043000000) .

1. Remove the right halfshaft. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-612699-S21666616252014043000000) .
2. Remove the side cover bolts.
3. Remove the side cover.
4. Using a drift remove both inner and outer seals.

1. Install the inner seal into the PTU cover using Installer (special tool #9852, Installer, Seal) and Handle (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal).
2. Install the outer seal into the PTU cover using Installer (special tool #9853, Installer, Seal) and Handle (special tool #C-4171, Driver Handle, Universal).
3. Install the side cover.
4. Tighten side cover bolts (1) to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the right halfshaft. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-612699-S15550799112014043000000) .

1. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-612702-S19576264132014043000000) .
2. Remove the extension housing bolts (1).
3. Remove the extension housing.
4. Remove the extension housing O-ring and inspect.
5. Using a chisel (2) remove the dust shield (1) from the extension housing (3).

1. Using a block of wood (2) install the dust shield (3) onto the extension housing (1).
2. Install the extension housing and bolts.
3. Tighten the extension housing bolts to 38 N.m (28 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-612702-S26511483572014043000000) .
