Scheme 195: OVERHEAD CONSOLE

Note. The overhead console shown in illustration contains a combination power liftgate/power sunroof switch. Vehicles equipped with the power liftgate and no sunroof contain a single power liftgate switch only. Vehicles equipped with the power sunroof and no liftgate contain a single power sunroof switch only.

Note. On vehicles equipped with both a power sunroof and power liftgate the overhead console switches are serviced together as one assembly.

An overhead console (3) is standard on this vehicle and includes the following components

  1. Overhead storage compartment (2)
  2. Power sunroof switch (1) - if equipped
  3. Power liftgate switch (1) - if equipped
  4. Universal transmitter (5) - if equipped
  5. Access hole for mounting the inside rearview mirror

The overhead console assembly is mounted by four snap clips (1) securing it to a molded plastic retainer bracket located above the headliner. The Electronic Overhead Module (EOM) (3) and combination power sunroof/liftgate switch (2) are secured to the overhead console with screws.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove the inside rear view mirror. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-288230-S21225107532008062000000) .
  3. Pull downward on the sides of the overhead console housing (3) firmly and evenly to disengage the snap clips from the overhead console bracket.
  4. Lower the overhead console from the headliner far enough to access the wire harness connectors.
  5. Disconnect the roof wire harness connectors from the Electronic Overhead Module (EOM) (3) and combination power sunroof/liftgate switch (2) if equipped.
  6. Remove the overhead console from the vehicle.
  1. Position the overhead console near the mounting location on the headliner.
  2. Feed the inside rearview mirror wire harness through the mounting hole (4).
  3. Reconnect the roof wire harness connectors to the Electronic Overhead Module (EOM) (3) and combination power sunroof/liftgate switch (2) if equipped.
  4. Align the snap clips (1) on the overhead console housing with their receptacles in the overhead console bracket.
  5. Push upward firmly and evenly on the sides of the overhead console housing (3) over the snap clip locations until the snap clip is fully engaged with its receptacle in the overhead console bracket.
  6. Install the inside rearview mirror. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-288230-S04707514872008062000000) .
  7. Reconnect the battery negative cable.

Scheme 197: ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER

The Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) features a driver-interactive display (2). The display is located in the lower part of the tachometer (1) on the right side of the instrument cluster (3). This system conveniently allows the driver to select a variety of useful information by pressing the switches mounted on the center stack of the instrument panel. The EVIC displays information related to the following

  1. System Status
  2. Vehicle information warning message displays
  3. Tire Pressure Monitor System - If Equipped
  4. Personal Settings (customer programmable features)
  5. Compass display
  6. Outside temperature display
  7. Trip computer functions

The EVIC system is comprised of several different components. Those components are

  1. Instrument Cluster
  2. Instrument panel center stack switch pod
  3. Ambient Temperature Sensor
  4. Remote Compass Module (RCM)
  5. Controller Area Network (CAN) Data Bus

The EVIC display is part of the Instrument Cluster assembly and is not serviced as a separate component. If the display is inoperative the complete Instrument Cluster assembly must be replaced. Refer to REMOVAL . If the EVIC switches in the instrument panel center stack switch pod are inoperative and require replacement, Refer to REMOVAL for the appropriate procedure. The RCM is a separate stand alone module mounted to the top side of the headliner. It is mounted in one of two locations depending on if the vehicle is equipped with Command View® dual fixed second row skylights. If the vehicle is equipped with Command View® skylights the module is located between the two glass panels. If the vehicle is not equipped with Command View® skylights the module is located on the left side of the vehicle above the second row seats. If the compass position sensor (Remote Compass Module) is inoperative and requires replacement, see REMOVAL for the appropriate procedure.

OPERATION

The Compass/Temperature/Trip Computer Mode display provides the outside temperature, one of the eight compass headings to indicate the direction the vehicle is facing, and vehicle trip information. The compass and temperature display is the normal display. When the C/T button is pressed the compass/temperature display returns.

The Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) compass system is comprised of several different components. Those components are

  1. Instrument Cluster
  2. Instrument panel center stack switch pod
  3. Remote Compass Module (RCM)
  4. Controller Area Network (CAN) Data Bus

The RCM data is transferred on the CAN Data Bus circuit. The RCM and EVIC will not function properly if the bus messages are not properly received. If no EVIC data is displayed, check the CAN Data Bus circuit communications, the RCM, the Instrument Cluster functions and the Front Control Module (FCM). Any diagnosis of the RCM and EVIC system should begin with, the use of a scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic service information.
