- Position vehicle on a four-post lift.
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to «BATTERY DISCONNECTION PROCEDURE»(ref-171253-S19302448882005020100000).
- Open engine compartment to service position, and fit paintwork protection covers to fenders.
- Remove both engine covers (normally aspirated vehicles only). Release pegs. Remove covers. (Scheme 3): Removing Engine Covers
- Support weight of engine. Position special tool in RH and LH fender channels and tighten beam fixings. Engage hooks into the engine front lifting eyes. Tighten hook adjustment nuts until weight of engine is supported. (Scheme 4): Installing Engine Support
- Remove generator front cooling duct. Remove bolt. Move duct rearwards to release tang from undertray. Release front duct from rear vertical duct. (Scheme 5): Removing Generator Front Cooling Duct
- Remove undertray. Remove and discard eight scrivets. Remove three screws. Remove undertray. (Scheme 6): Removing Undertray
- Remove cruciform strut (convertible vehicles only). Remove four bolts. Remove cruciform strut. (Scheme 7): Removing Cruciform (Convertible Only)
- Raise front of vehicle and support on stands. Refer to «LIFTING & JACKING»(ref-163422-S10730360522004062900000).
- Remove front wheels. Refer to «WHEEL AND TIRE»(ref-198021-S14901424102005101500000).
- Drain brake fluid from both front brakes. Remove dust cap. Connect pipe to bleed nipple, and insert pipe into a fluid container. Undo bleed nipple sufficiently, to allow brake fluid to drain. Pump brake pedal until brake fluid stops draining. Tighten bleed nipple, remove pipe, and fit dust cover. Repeat procedure on opposite-side brake caliper. (Scheme 8): Draining Brake Fluid
- Disconnect both front brake hoses from brake tubes. Undo union nut connecting brake tube to brake hose. Remove locknut securing brake hose to bracket and release brake hose. Fit blanking plugs to brake hose and tube. Repeat procedure to disconnect opposite-side brake hose. (Scheme 9): Disconnection Front Brake Hoses
- Disconnect connectors from both front ABS sensors. Remove tie straps securing ABS harness to upper wishbone. Disconnect connector. Repeat procedure to disconnect opposite-side ABS sensor. (Scheme 10): Disconnecting Front ABS Sensors
- Disconnect electrical connector from steering rack transducer. (Scheme 11): Disconnecting Steering Rack Transducer
- Release hose from steering rack, Remove tie straps. Remove insulation rubbers (Scheme 12): Removing Steering Hose Tie Straps
- Release hose retaining plate from pinion housing. Remove bolt. Move retaining plate along hose. (Scheme 13): Removing Hose Retaining Plate Bolt
- Drain power steering fluid. Position drain pan under pinion housing. Disconnect hoses and allow fluid to drain. Remove and discard 'O'-ring seals from hoses. Fit blanking plugs to hoses and pinion housing ports. (Scheme 14): Removing Power Steering Hoses From Power Steering Rack
- Release steering column from pinion shaft. Remove bolt. Move column upwards to release it from pinion shaft. (Scheme 15): Disconnecting Steering Column From Pinion Shaft
- Using a suitable jack, support weight of crossbeam.
- Remove both front mounting brackets from the crossbeam. Remove front bolts (one bolt on convertible vehicles). Remove rear bolt. Remove bracket. Repeat procedure to remove opposite-side bracket. (Scheme 16): Removing Crossbeam Front Mounting Brackets
- Release both front engine mountings from crossbeam. Remove bolt. Repeat procedure to release opposite-side mounting. (Scheme 17): Removing Front Engine Mounting Bolts
- Release both front shock absorbers from the lower mountings. Remove nut and bolt. Repeat procedure to release opposite-side shock absorber. (Scheme 18): Removing Front Shock Absorber Lower Mounting Bolts
- Release crossbeam rear mountings from chassis. Remove mounting center bolt. Repeat procedure to release opposite-side mounting. (Scheme 19): Removing Crossbeam Rear Mounting Bolts
- With assistance, lower crossbeam, and place it on a workbench.
- Release both links from stabilizer bar. Remove nut, use an open-ended spanner on the ball-pin flats to prevent the rubber cover from twisting. Release link. Repeat procedure to release opposite-side link. (Scheme 20): Releasing Stabilizer Bar Links
- Remove stabilizer bar from crossbeam. Remove bolts. Remove mounting brackets. Remove stabilizer bar. (Scheme 21): Removing Stabilizer Bar From Crossbeam
- Remove nuts from both tie-rod-ends. Remove nut Remove opposite-side, tie-rod-end nut. (Scheme 22): Removing Tie-Rod End Nuts
- Release both tie-rod-ends from steering arms. Fit special tool to tie-rod-end. Tighten tool bolt to release tie-rod-end, taper-pin. Remove tool and disengage tie-rod-end. Repeat procedure to release opposite-side tie-rod-end. (Scheme 23): Releasing Tie-Rod Ends From Steering Arms
- Remove steering rack from crossbeam. Remove bolts. Remove steering rack. (Scheme 24): Removing Steering Rack
- Release both lower wishbones from crossbeam. Remove nut and bolt from front arm of wishbone. Remove nut and bolt from rear arm of wishbone. Release wishbone from crossbeam. Repeat procedure to release opposite-side lower wishbone: collect fulcrum tie. (Scheme 25): Releasing Wishbone From Crossbeam
- With assistance remove both vertical link and wishbone assemblies from crossbeam. Remove nut. Remove fulcrum bolt: collect washers and shims. Remove vertical link and wishbone assembly. - Fit front mounting bushes to crossbeam. Refer to «FRONT AXLE CROSSMEMBER FRONT BUSHING»(ref-198060-S38315120302005101500000).
- With assistance, fit the vertical link and wishbone assembly to the crossbeam. Align lower wishbone to crossbeam. Fit nut and bolt to wishbone rear arm: DO NOT tighten at this stage. Align fulcrum tie to front arm of wishbone. Fit front bolt to wishbone. (Scheme 27): Installing Vertical Link & Wishbone To Crossbeam
- Fit upper wishbone to crossbeam. Position wishbone to crossbeam. Fit fulcrum bolt, also fit shims and washers in positions noted in removal. (Scheme 28): Fitting Upper Wishbone To Crossbeam
- Fit and tighten upper wishbone fulcrum-shaft nut. (Scheme 29): Tightening Upper Wishbone Fulcrum-Shaft Nut
- Tighten lower wishbone nuts and bolts. Raise wishbone to the horizontal position. Fit nut, and tighten front-arm fulcrum bolt. Tighten rear-arm fulcrum bolt. (Scheme 30): Tightening Lower Wishbone Nuts & Bolts
- Repeat four previous pictorial procedures to fit opposite-side wishbone and vertical link assembly.
- Fit stabilizer bar to crossbeam. Position stabilizer bar to crossbeam. Position mounting brackets. Fit and tighten bolts. (Scheme 31): Installing Stabilizer Bar To Crossbeam
- Fit links to stabilizer bar. Position link to stabilizer bar. Fit and tighten nut: use an open-ended spanner on the ball-pin flats to prevent the rubber cover from twisting. Repeat procedure to fit opposite-side link. (Scheme 32): Tightening Stabilizer Bar Links
- Fit steering rack to crossbeam. Align steering rack to crossbeam. Fit and tighten bolts. (Scheme 33): Installing Steering Rack To Crossbeam
- Fit both tie-rod-ends to steering arms. Insert tie-rod-end taper pin into steering arm. Fit and tighten nut. Repeat procedure to fit opposite-side, tie-rod-end. (Scheme 34): Installing Tie-Rod Ends
- With assistance, position crossbeam on jack, and align crossbeam to vehicle.
- Secure crossbeam rear mountings to chassis. Fit and tighten mounting center bolt Repeat procedure to secure opposite-side rear mounting. (Scheme 35): Securing Crossbeam Rear Mountings To Chassis
- Fit shock absorbers to lower mountings. Align shock absorber to mounting and fit bolt. Fit and tighten nut. Repeat procedure to fit opposite-side shock absorber. (Scheme 36): Installing Shock Absorbers To Lower Mounting
- Fit front engine mounting bolts, but DO NOT tighten at this stage. W Repeat procedure on opposite-side mounting. (Scheme 37): Installing Front Engine Mounting Bolts
- Fit crossbeam front mounting-brackets. Align mounting bracket to crossbeam. Fit front bolts: do not tighten at this stage, (one bolt on convertible vehicles). Fit and tighten rear bolt. Tighten front bolts. Repeat procedure to fit opposite-side mounting bracket. (Scheme 38): Installing Crossbeam Front Mounting-Brackets
- Lower and remove jack from underneath crossbeam.
- Fit steering column to pinion shaft. Move column downwards onto pinion shaft. Fit and tighten bolt. (Scheme 39): Fitting Steering Column To Pinion Shaft
- Remove blanking plugs from PAS hoses and pinion housing ports.
- Connect return hose to pinion shaft housing. Apply clean PAS fluid to a new O-ring and fit to hose. Connect and fully seat hose. (Scheme 40): Connecting Return Hose
- Connect feed hose to pinion shaft housing. Apply clean PAS fluid to a new O-ring and fit to hose. Connect and fully seat hose. (Scheme 41): Connecting Feed Hose
- Fit retaining plate to pinion housing. Align retaining plate and hoses. Fit and tighten bolt. (Scheme 42): Installing Steering Hose Retaining Plate
- Secure PAS hose to steering rack. Fit insulation rubbers. Secure hose to steering rack with tie straps. (Scheme 43): Securing PAS Hose To Steering Rack
- Connect electrical connector to steering rack transducer. (Scheme 44): Connecting Steering Rack Transducer
- Connect ABS sensor connectors. Connect ABS sensor connector. Secure ABS harness to upper wishbone with tie-straps. Repeat procedure to connect opposite side ABS sensor. (Scheme 45): Connecting/Securing ABS Sensor
- Connect brake hoses to brake tubes. Remove blanking plugs. Position hose to bracket and tighten locking nut. Connect brake tube to hose and tighten union nut. Repeat procedure to connect opposite-side brake hose. (Scheme 46): Connecting Brake Hoses
- Fit cruciform strut (convertible vehicles only). Position cruciform strut. Fit and tighten bolts. (Scheme 47): Installing Cruciform (Convertible Only)
- Fit generator cooling duct deflector. Position deflector over rear vertical duct. Slide deflector forward to engage center tang over undertray. Fit bolt and tighten to 17-23Nm. (Scheme 48): Installing Generator Cooling Duct Deflector
- Fit undertray. Position undertray. Fit three screws fasteners. Fit eight new scrivets. (Scheme 49): Installing Undertray
- Fit front wheels. Refer to «WHEEL AND TIRE»(ref-198021-S14901424102005101500000).
- Remove stands and lower vehicle.
- Lower four-post lift.
- Remove engine support tool. Release hook adjustment nuts. Release hooks from brackets. Remove special tool. (Scheme 50): Removing Engine Support Tool
- Secure front engine mountings to crossbeam. Tighten bolt. Repeat procedure to secure opposite-side mounting. (Scheme 51): Tightening Front Engine Mounting Bolts

- Using a hydraulic press, remove front mounting bush from the crossbeam. Place special tool on the press-bed, with the tool cut-outs upper most. - Invert the crossbeam and place it, onto the bed of the hydraulic press.

- Remove stands and lower front of vehicle.

- Release weight of engine. Loosen hook adjustment nuts. Remove hooks from lifting eyes. Remove special tool. (Scheme 74): Removing Engine Support

- Position a jack under the differential drive coupling and support the weight of axle assembly.

- To allow for access, lower jack approximately 25 mm.

- Remove bolts securing link assemblies to suspension subframe. Remove bolt. Make sure spacer remains captive in bracket. Repeat procedure to remove bolt from opposite-side of subframe. (Scheme 82): Removing Suspension Subframe Securing Link Bolts
- With assistance remove suspension subframe from the vehicle. Using hand pressure, support weight of subframe. Remove bolts. Remove subframe. (Scheme 83): Removing Suspension Subframe From Vehicle
- Clean relevant components and mating faces.

- Remove suspension subframe from vehicle. Refer to «REAR AXLE CROSSMEMBER»(ref-198060-S04030655862005101500000).
- Position special tool 204-116-02 on press-bed with the recesses uppermost. (Scheme 97): Positioning Special Tool On Press-Bed
- Remove nut and washer from tool. Position special tool 204-116-06 on bush with recesses accommodating the bush rebound stops. Install washer and nut on tool, but do not tighten nut at this stage. (Scheme 98): Installing Special Tool To Subframe
- Invert subframe and position assembly on special tool 204-116-02, with subframe located in the recess. (Scheme 99): Position Subframe On Special Tool On Press-Bed
- Remove bush from subframe. Align assembly with the press-ram. Operate press to remove bush. (Scheme 100): Pressing Bushing Out Of Subframe
- Remove bush from special tool and discard bush.
- Thoroughly clean the bush-housing bore.

- Use a coarse grade emery cloth to roughen the bush-housing bore, and mating surface of the bush.
- Using an air line, remove residual dust from bush and housing mating surfaces.
- Clean the bush-housing bore and bush with cleaning solvent (SPB3 Solvent 30) or equivalent.
- Invert suspension subframe.
- Mark bush position on sub-frame. Stretch a length of thin cord across the center line of each bush location. Below the string, place two pieces of masking tape diametrically opposite on the bore periphery. Mark string position on the masking tape. (Scheme 101): Identifying Subframe Bushing Proper Position
- Position subframe on a hydraulic-press. Position special tool 204-116-02 on press-bed, with recesses uppermost. Position subframe on top of tool. (Scheme 102): Positioning Subframe On Special Tool On Press-Bed
- Apply 'Alphabond Rapid 101' epoxy adhesive to the shaded area of the bush (as shown), and corresponding area of the bush-housing bore. (Scheme 103): Identifying Bushing Adhesive Application
- Aligning bush with subframe. Position bush with large single void facing forward. Align small void centers with masking tape markers. (Scheme 104): Positioning Bushing In Subframe
- Install bush in housing. Position a steel plate over the bush, ensuring the plate is large enough to cover the rubber flange. Operate the press to install the bush. see scheme 108: Pressing Bushing Into Subframe
- Ensure bush is fully seated in subframe. The clearance between the bush flange and subframe must not exceed 1.5 mm. see scheme 109: Measuring Bushing To Subframe Clearance
- Ensure bush is aligned correctly in subframe as detailed in Step 8 or 9 as appropriate.
- Wipe off excess adhesive from subframe and bush, and remove masking tape.
- Install suspension subframe on vehicle. Refer to «REAR AXLE CROSSMEMBER»(ref-198060-S04030655862005101500000).
