The left and right-hand tie-rod assemblies

  1. Transmit steering forces from the steering gear to the wheel knuckles.
  2. Provide front road wheel toe setting by adjustment of the threaded outer tie-rod ends.

Note. Steering geometry adjustments must only be carried out with the vehicle on turn plates to allow the wheels to move during adjustment.

The left and right-hand steering rack boots

  1. Are installed between the steering rack and the tie-rod ends.
  2. Are of the concertina type.
  3. Are to prevent the ingress of foreign matter.

  1. Remove the tie rod end. Refer to «Tie-Rod End - Removal and Installation»(ref-311300-S18359375812009032500000)
  2. Remove and discard the tie-rod boot outer retaining clamp.
  3. Remove and discard the tie-rod boot inner retaining clamp.
  4. Remove the tie-rod boot.
