Systems use a standard 2-speed wiper motor for LO and HI speed wiper operation. Systems also have an adjustable intermittent function, which can delay wiper action between cycles. Front wiper and washer functions are controlled by wiper/washer switch, which is part of combination switch. When wiper/washer switch is turned off, wiper motor internal ground will operate wipers until reaching PARK position.
Trooper and SLX have an optional rear window wiper/washer system. Trooper and SLX may also have an optional headlight wiper/washer system. Wiper and washer controls for rear and headlight systems are mounted on dash panel.
OPERATION
With ignition on, power is supplied from FRT WIPER (15-amp) fuse to front wiper switch, wiper motor and intermittent wiper relay. With wiper switch in LO or HI position, battery voltage is applied to LO or HI winding of wiper motor. When wiper switch is moved to INT position, battery voltage is applied to intermittent wiper relay. Intermittent wiper relay will operate front wipers every 3-4 seconds, or INT switch can be adjusted between 2-20 seconds of delay. When washer switch is depressed and held, battery voltage is applied to front wiper washer motor and intermittent wiper relay. This operates front washer motor and wipers, until switch is released.
With ignition on, power is supplied from RR WIPER & WASHER (10-amp) fuse to rear wiper switch, rear wiper motor and rear intermittent relay. When rear wiper/washer switch is depressed, battery voltage is applied to rear intermittent relay which operates rear wiper intermittently. When WASH is depressed, washer motor pumps washer solvent to rear window and operates rear wiper motor until switch is released.
With ignition on, power is supplied from H/LAMP WIPER (10-amp) fuse to both headlight wiper motors, headlight wiper timer and headlight wiper switch. Depressing headlight wiper/washer switch will operate wipers through 5 cycles, regardless of how long switch is depressed. During headlight wiper operation, washer solvent will be applied between first 4 strokes. Washer pump motor is mounted to bottom of front wiper/washer fluid reservoir.
