BELT TENSION
Loosen pivot bolt and lock bolt. Turn adjusting bolt for desired belt tension. See the BELT DEFLECTION SPECIFICATIONS table. Tighten pivot and lock bolts to specification. Refer to the TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table.

BELT DEFLECTION SPECIFICATIONS
GENERATOR WARNING LIGHT
Note. For vehicles without a charge warning light, refer to the CHARGING SYSTEM TEST .
- Check belt and wiring. Ensure battery is fully charged and main fusible link is okay. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light comes on, go to step 3). If charge indicator light does not come on, go to next step.
- Unplug generator connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminal "L" of harness connector (White/Green wire) to ground. (Scheme 4) If charge indicator light comes on, repair or replace generator. If charge indicator light does not come on, locate and repair open in (White/Green wire) between harness connector terminal "L" and ignition switch. Check for an open in generator warning light bulb.
- Start engine and allow it to idle. If charge indicator goes out, check system for normal charging voltage (13-16 volts). If charge indicator light stays on, turn ignition off. Disconnect generator connector. Start engine and allow it to idle. If charge indicator light remains on, locate and repair short to ground in White/Green wire. (Scheme 4) If charge indicator light goes off, replace or repair generator.

ROTOR
- Measure diameter of slip rings. If less than .51" (12.8 mm), replace rotor. If slip ring diameter is within specification, go to next step.
- Using an ohmmeter, check rotor coil resistance between slip rings. If reading is greater than 2.9 ohms at 68°F (20°C), rotor is defective.
STATOR COIL
- Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between stator coil leads. If reading is .01 ohm at 68°F (20°C), replace stator coil.
- Connect ohmmeter between stator core and stator coil. If reading is less than 1 megohm, replace stator coil.
