POWER WINDOW SWITCH CIRCUIT (DRIVER'S SIDE SWITCH)

Note. Circuit testing is performed at drivers' side power window switch.

  1. Remove switch from door trim panel. Disconnect power window switch harness connectors. Using a DVOM, check voltage between power window switch 2-terminal connector, terminal No. 1 (Blue wire) and ground, with ignition switch in ON position. (Scheme 1) Battery voltage should be present.
  2. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between power window switch 2-terminal connector, terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and ground. Continuity should exist. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 1 and 2. Continuity should exist.
  3. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 1 and 7, with right front power window switch in DOWN position, then in UP position. Continuity should exist with switch in DOWN position and should not exist with switch in UP position.
  4. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 2 and 7, with right front power window switch in DOWN position, then in UP position. Continuity should not exist with switch in DOWN position and should exist with switch in UP position.
  5. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 3 and 4. (Scheme 2) Continuity should exist. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 3 and 7, with left rear power window switch in DOWN position, then in UP position. Continuity not should exist with switch in DOWN position and should exist with switch in UP position.
  6. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 4 and 7, with left rear power window switch in DOWN position, then in UP position. Continuity should exist with switch in DOWN position and should not exist with switch in UP position.
  7. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 5 and 6. (Scheme 2) Continuity should exist. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminal No. 7 and ground. Continuity should not exist. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 9 and 10. Continuity should exist.
  8. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 7 and 9, with right rear power window switch in DOWN position, then in UP position. Continuity not should exist with switch in DOWN position and should exist with switch in UP position.
  9. Check continuity between power window switch 10-terminal connector, terminals No. 7 and 10, with right rear power window switch in DOWN position, then in UP position. Continuity should exist with switch in DOWN position and should not exist with switch in UP position.
  10. If continuity or voltage is not as specified in any of the previous steps, repair appropriate circuit as necessary. If all circuits are okay, check, repair or replace appropriate component(s) as necessary.

POWER WINDOW SWITCH CIRCUIT (PASSENGER SIDE & REAR)

  1. Remove switch from door trim panel. Disconnect power window switch harness connectors. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between power window switch connector terminal No. 1 and ground. Continuity should exist. (Scheme 3)
  2. Using a DVOM, check voltage between power window switch connector terminal No. 1 and ground, with ignition switch in ON position, and appropriate power window switch at driver's side power window switch in OFF position, then in DOWN position. Voltage should not be present with switch in OFF position. Battery voltage should be present with switch in DOWN position.
  3. Check continuity between power window switch connector terminals No. 2 and 4. Continuity should exist. Using a DVOM, check voltage between power window switch connector terminal No. 3 and ground, with ignition switch in ON position, and lock switch in ON position, then in OFF position. Voltage should not be present with switch in ON position. Battery voltage should be present with switch in OFF position.
  4. Check continuity between power window switch connector terminal No. 5 and ground. Continuity should exist. Using a DVOM, check voltage between power window switch connector terminal No. 5 and ground, with ignition switch in ON position, and appropriate power window switch at driver's side power window switch in OFF position, then in UP position. Voltage should not be present with switch in OFF position. Battery voltage should be present with switch in UP position.
  5. If continuity or voltage is not as specified in any of the previous steps, repair appropriate circuit as necessary. If all circuits are okay, check, repair or replace appropriate component(s) as necessary.

POWER WINDOW MOTOR CIRCUIT (DRIVER'S SIDE SWITCH)

  1. Remove driver's door trim panel and remove power window switch assembly. Disconnect driver's side power window switch connector for appropriate power window. Apply battery voltage to specified connector terminal and ground specified connector terminal. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR CIRCUIT TEST (DRIVER'S SIDE SWITCH)»(ref-35257-S38852070372001010900000). For connector terminal locations (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2).
  2. Power window should operate unless it is already at maximum travel. Reverse test leads. Power window should operate in opposite direction. If power windows operate as specified, wiring circuits are okay. If power windows do not operate as specified, repair appropriate circuit as necessary. If circuit is okay, check appropriate power window motor and replace as necessary. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR TEST»(ref-35257-S11007338742001010900000) under TESTING.

  1. Disconnect appropriate power window switch connector. Apply battery voltage to specified connector terminal and ground specified connector terminal. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR CIRCUIT TEST (PASSENGER & REAR SWITCHES)»(ref-35257-S21318410322001010900000). For connector terminal locations (Scheme 3) Power window should operate unless it is already at maximum travel. Reverse test leads. Power window should operate in opposite direction.
  2. If power windows operate as specified, wiring circuits are okay. If power windows do not operate as specified, repair appropriate circuit as necessary. If circuit is okay, check appropriate power window motor and replace as necessary. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR TEST»(ref-35257-S11007338742001010900000) under TESTING.

POWER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY (DRIVER'S SIDE SWITCH)

  1. Remove switch from door trim panel. Disconnect power window switch harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between specified switch terminals with power window switch in specified position. See «DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY CHART»(ref-35257-S26817496152001010900000).
  2. Continuity is checked between 2-terminal connector and 10-terminal connector. For switch terminal identification (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). If continuity is not as specified, replace appropriate switch.

DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY CHART

POWER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY (PASSENGER SIDE & REAR)

Remove switch from door trim panel. Disconnect appropriate power window switch harness connector. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between specified switch terminals with power window switch in specified position. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY CHART. For switch terminal identification (Scheme 3) If continuity is not as specified, replace appropriate switch.

POWER WINDOW SWITCH CONTINUITY CHART

POWER WINDOW MOTOR

Gain access to power window motor terminals. Apply battery voltage to either power window motor terminal and ground other terminal. Motor should operate unless it is already at maximum travel. Reverse battery voltage and ground test leads. Motor should operate in opposite direction. If motor does not operate as described, replace appropriate motor.

POWER WINDOW RELAY

Remove power window relay (located behind right side kick panel). Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between relay terminals No. 3 and 4. (Scheme 4) Continuity should not exist. Apply battery voltage to terminal No. 1, and ground terminal No. 2. Continuity should exist between terminals No 3 and 4. If relay does not test as described, replace relay.

Scheme 4: POWER WINDOW RELAY

ALL WINDOWS INOPERATIVE

Check for defective fuse No. F-7, circuit breaker No. F-18, and wiring circuits.

WINDOWS OPERATE WITH DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCH ONLY

Check driver's side power window switch and wiring circuit.

LOCK SWITCH INOPERATIVE

Check driver's side power window lock switch circuit.

DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE

Check driver's side power window switch, power window motor and wiring circuit.

DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW OPERATES IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY

Check driver's side power window switch and wiring circuit.

Check driver's side power window switch, passenger power window switch and motor and wiring circuits.

Check driver's side power window switch, appropriate rear power window switch and motor, and wiring circuits.

Check appropriate rear power window switch.

WINDOW OPERATES IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY USING DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCH

Check driver's side power window switch.

WINDOW OPERATES IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY USING REAR POWER WINDOW SWITCH

Check appropriate rear power window switch.
