CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
- Park vehicle on level surface. Place selector lever in "P" position, set parking brake and run engine to operating temperature. Apply brake pedal. Move shift lever through each gear. Place shift lever in "P" position.
- With engine idling, clean dipstick and insert. Remove dipstick and check level reading. Fluid level should be between dimples of "HOT" range.

- Tighten adjusting nuts. Ensure stroke of inner cable from normal idling position to wide open throttle is 1.30-1.36" (32.0-34.5 mm).
SHIFT LINKAGE
- Loosen shift control rod adjusting nuts on transmission end of shift linkage. Ensure that transmission lever is in the "N" position.
- Ensure gearshift lever is in the "N" position. Tighten adjusting nuts. Road test vehicle. Ensure shift lever moves properly and transmission operates smoothly.
NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH
Remove gearshift lever console. Loosen switch retaining screws (near base of gearshift lever). Place selector lever in the "N" position. Adjust switch so vehicle will only start in the "P" or "N" positions. Tighten retaining screws.
