Generator & Regulator: Other Isuzu Amigo II

Amigo & Rodeo 2.2L

1. Disconnect battery cables. Disconnect generator wiring harness connector terminal "B+" (White wire) from generator. Set ammeter to 100 amp setting and connect between generator terminal "B+" and generator connector terminal "B+". (Scheme 6) Go to next step.
2. Connect carbon pile tester to battery. (Scheme 6) Connect tachometer to engine. Connect oscilloscope to generator following manufacturer's instructions. Reconnect battery cables. Go to next step.
3. Start engine and allow it to idle. Document generator current output at various engine speeds. Adjust carbon pile tester to demand maximum output from generator. See «GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-26407-S21057884912001041900000) table.
4. Monitor waveforms on oscilloscope. Waveforms should vary between 5 to 7 amps. If minimum current is not output from generator or oscilloscope waveforms are irregular, overhaul or replace generator. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-26407-S36833587242001041900000).

Scheme 6

Amigo, Rodeo 3.2L & Trooper

1. Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Use DVOM to measure voltage between ground and generator connector terminal "L" (White/Blue wire) and ground. Also measure generator connector terminal "IG" (Black/Yellow wire). If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, check for blown METER or ENGINE IG. fuse in dash fuse box. If fuses are okay, check for open in Black/Yellow wire between generator connector terminal "IG" and dash fuse box, White/Blue wire between generator connector terminal "L" and instrument panel or Yellow wire between instrument panel and dash fuse box. 2. Reconnect generator connector and start engine. Make sure ALL accessories and equipment are off. Use DVOM and measure battery voltage while engine is idling. If reading is greater than 16 volts, replace generator. Connect DVOM in ammeter mode to output terminal of generator. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-26407-S19484400142001041900000) . Turn on headlights or other accessories. Battery voltage must not drop below 13 volts. If voltage drops below 13 volts, replace generator.

GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS

Set DVOM to x100 ohm range and check for continuity between terminals "B" and "F". (Scheme 7) Reverse leads to terminals on DVOM. Continuity should only be indicated in one direction. If continuity is indicated in both directions or in neither direction, replace IC voltage regulator. See OVERHAUL.

STATOR COIL

1. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity across stator coil leads. If continuity does not exist, replace stator coils. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-26407-S36833587242001041900000) .
2. Measure resistance across stator coil, reading should be about .07 ohm at 68°F (20°C). If reading is not as specified, replace stator. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-26407-S36833587242001041900000) .
3. Connect ohmmeter between stator core and each stator coil lead. If continuity exists, replace stator coil. See «OVERHAUL»(ref-26407-S36833587242001041900000) .
