Intermittent Simulation

To reproduce conditions creating an intermittent fault, use following methods

  1. Lightly vibrate component.
  2. Heat component.
  3. Wiggle or bend wiring harness.
  4. Spray component with water.
  5. Remove/apply vacuum source.

Monitor circuit/component voltage or resistance while simulating intermittent. Use test results to identify a faulty component or circuit.

On California vehicles, intermittent simulation may cause CHECK ENGINE light to flash if an intermittent condition is reproduced on following circuits.

  1. Code 12 - Airflow Meter Circuit
  2. Code 13 - Coolant (Engine) Temperature Sensor Circuit
  3. Code 14 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit
  4. Code 33 - Exhaust Gas Sensor Circuit
  5. Code 35 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit
  6. Code 43 - Throttle Position Sensor Circuit
  7. Code 51 - Injector Circuit
