OPERATION

The triple pressure switch is a combination of the low pressure switch (for checking the quantity of refrigerant) and the high pressure switch (for prevention of air conditioning line burst) and medium pressure switch (for cooling fan operation). It is installed in the receiver drier and, when the pressure becomes approximately 200 kPa (29 psi) or lower, the compressor stops, thus preventing the compressor from being damaged by sticking. When the pressure reaches 1,800 kPa (261 psi) or higher, the cooling fans run high speed from low speed, thus preventing the power consumption of cooling fans from being discharged. When the pressure reaches 3,241 kPa (470 psi) or higher, the compressor stops, thus preventing air conditioning line burst. There is generally no necessity for inspection; if, however, an unusual condition, such as non-operation of the compressor is encountered, check by following the procedures below.

Scheme 4: OPERATION

DESCRIPTION

The in-car sensor is located behind the center fascia panel. The sensor contains a thermistor which measures the temperature of the air inside the passenger compartment. It perceives the passenger compartment temperature, change the resistance value, and enters the corresponding voltage into the automatic temperature control module.

The water temp. sensor is wired to the temp. actuator potentiometer and attached to the heater core inlet tube under the actuator mounting bracket with a spring tension clip. The two leads to the clip start in the wire and connector assembly which feeds into the electronically controlled blend door actuator. It automatically prevents the blowing out of cold air at a high flow rate when the outside air temperature is low when the engine is not warmed up. This control is provided only when the blower switch is in the AUTO range. Until the engine coolant temperature reaches approximately 50°C (122°F) or the desired temperature becomes equal or more than inside temperature +3°C, cold air will not blow inside and fan speed is at low mode. In the MANUAL mode, the speed is in accordance with the range setting, and the fan control at low and warm coolant temperature does not work.

  1. Immerse the water temp. sensor in water.
  2. Using a stove, heating the water measure the resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2. Check the resistance value is within specification as shown in the graph.

The ambient sensor is located in front of the condenser fan shroud.

The sensor contains a thermistor which measures the temperature of the outside air.

The electronic blend door actuator is located in the side of the evaporator case assembly on the driver's side. The actuator control the position of the temperature blend door based on a low current signal from the FATC module. Internally an electronic circuit accepts the signal and positions the blend door with a small DC motor. Also included is a blend door position potentiometer which provides feedback to the FATC module. The blend door actuator operates based on input information of the temperature setting signal. And this A/C control module actuates the DC motor according to these signals, also controls the motor operation to adjust the air mixblend door opening.

This sensor detects the temperature inside the cooling unit and sends the appropriate signals to the air conditioning control assembly.

OPERATION METHOD (SELF-DIAGNOSIS)

The Full Automatic Control air conditioning module self test feature will detect electrical malfunction and provide error codes for system components with suspected failures.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DESCRIPTION

  1. A/C system is turned OFF during self diagnosis. The result of self diagnosis is displayed using 2 digits of the temperature display.
  2. Diagnostic trouble codes are displayed during self diagnosis. However, after diagnosis is complete, relevant data is not stored in memory.
  3. Self diagnosis of photo sensor is performed using a light bulb over 60W placed within 40cm with sun load applied.

Note. Without sun load, photo sensor error code displays.

  1. During mode control, the A/C may operate during DEF or MIX mode. In order to enable dehumidification, the driver may select A/C OFF during the A/C on condition.
