SERVICE INTERVALS

Check fluid at every engine oil change. Under normal conditions, replace fluid and oil screen every 30,000 miles. Under severe conditions, change oil and screen at 15,000 mile intervals.

CHECKING FLUID LEVEL

Vehicle must be level, with engine at normal operating temperature. Ensure gearshift lever is in Park. Add enough ATF to bring fluid level to lower mark on dipstick. With engine idling (transaxle in Park) fluid level should be full, between upper and middle marks of dipstick (HOT range). (Scheme 29) Insert dipstick fully into tube to prevent dirt from entering transaxle.

Manufacturer recommends MOPAR ATF PLUS Type 7176.

DRAINING & REFILLING

  1. Remove drain plug from transaxle oil pan. Drain fluid. Remove oil pan bolts, and tap pan to break it loose. Remove oil pan. Clean or replace oil filter/screen. Tighten filter bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-91639-S36641278232001032600000).
  2. Clean gasket surfaces of transaxle case and oil pan. Install oil pan with NEW gasket and tighten oil pan bolts to specification. Using a NEW gasket, install and tighten drain plug to specification.
  3. Pour 4.2 qts. (4.0L) of ATF into case through dipstick hole. Unless torque converter was drained, dry fill amount is not necessary. Start engine and allow to idle for at least 2 minutes. With parking brake on, move gearshift lever slowly to each position and back to Park. Recheck fluid level on dipstick.
  4. Add sufficient ATF to bring fluid level to lower mark. Recheck fluid level after transaxle is at normal operating temperature. Fluid level should be between marks of dipstick HOT range. (Scheme 29) Insert dipstick fully into tube to prevent dirt from entering transaxle.
