Removal Procedure
- Remove the front door sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front»(ref-187215-S29018936012005083100000) .
- Firmly grasp and gently pull the front floor kick-up panel to disengage the retaining clips.
- Remove the front floor kick-up panel from around the hood release lever, if necessary.
- Inspect for broken or missing retaining clips and replace as necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Install the front floor kick-up panel around the hood release lever.
- Align the retaining clips with the openings in the body.
- Gently press to fully seat the retaining clips.
- Install the front door sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front»(ref-187215-S29018936012005083100000) .
- Remove close out panel at the top of the hinged pillar trim panel using a small flat bladed tool.
- Remove the retaining screw.
- Firmly grasp and gently pull to disengage the retaining clips.
- Disconnect the lower lamp wire connector.
- Remove the hinge pillar trim from the vehicle.
- Inspect for broken or missing retaining clips and replace as necessary.
- Install the hinge pillar trim to the vehicle.
- Connect the lower lamp wire connector.
- Align the locator pins and the retaining clips to the opening in the body.
- Gently press to fully seat the retaining clips.
- Install the retaining screw.
- Install the close out panel.
- Fold the rear seat No. 1 forward to access the seat belt bolt.
- Remove the seat belt to floor mounting bolt.
- Remove the vehicle jack and bracket, if necessary.
- Firmly grasp and gently pull the lock pillar to disengage the retaining clips.
- Feed the seat belt through the opening in the lock pillar trim panel.
- Remove the lock pillar trim panel from the vehicle.
- Inspect for broken or missing retaining clips and replace as necessary.
- Install the lock pillar trim panel to the vehicle.
- Feed the seat belt through the opening in the lock pillar trim panel.
- Align the retaining clips with the openings in the body.
- Gently press to fully seat the retaining clips.
- Install the vehicle jack and bracket if necessary.
- Raise the jack after it is installed in the bracket to ensure that it is secure. Tighten: Tighten the bracket to 53 N.m (39 lb ft).
- Install the seat belt to floor mounting bolt.
- Fold the rear seat into the upright position.
- Firmly grasp and gently pull the front door sill plate to disengage the retaining clips.
- Remove the front door sill plate from the vehicle.
- Inspect for broken or missing retaining clips and replace as necessary.
- Install the front door sill plate to the vehicle.
- Align the retaining clips with the opening in the body.
- Gently press to fully seat the retaining clips.
- Firmly grasp and gently pull the rear door sill plate to disengage the retaining clips.
- Remove the rear door sill plate from the vehicle.
- Inspect for broken or missing retaining clips and replace as necessary.
- Install the rear door sill plate to the vehicle.
- Align the retaining clips with the opening in the body.
- Gently press to fully seat the retaining clips.
- Remove the screws that retain the liftgate sill plate.
- Firmly grasp and gently pull the liftgate sill plate to disengage the retaining clips.
- Remove the liftgate sill plate from the vehicle.
- Inspect for broken or missing retaining clips and replace as necessary.
- Install the liftgate sill plate to the vehicle.
- Align the retaining clips with the opening in the body.
- Gently press to fully seat the retaining clips. NOTE: Refer to «Fastener Notice»(ref-187216-S26822158702005083100000) in Cautions and Notices.
- Install the screws that retain the liftgate sill plate. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Remove the front seats. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-187230-S27992327302005083100000) in Seats.
- Remove the rear seats. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Rear No. 1»(ref-187230-S28240195132005083100000) in Seats.
- Remove the floor center console. Refer to «Console Replacement»(ref-187217-S27783040252005083100000) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Remove the door sill trim plates. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front»(ref-187215-S29018936012005083100000) and «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear»(ref-187215-S08503312222005083100000) .
- Remove the front kick panels. Refer to «Kick-Up Panel Replacement - Front Floor»(ref-187215-S37200945392005083100000) .
- Remove the hinge pillar trim panels from both sides. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar»(ref-187215-S27286437232005083100000) .
- Remove the lock pillar trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Remove the carpet.
- Install the carpet.
- Install the lock pillar trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Install the hinge pillar trim panels. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar»(ref-187215-S27286437232005083100000) .
- Install the kick panels. Refer to «Kick-Up Panel Replacement - Front Floor»(ref-187215-S37200945392005083100000) .
- Install the door sill trim plates. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Front»(ref-187215-S29018936012005083100000) and «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear»(ref-187215-S08503312222005083100000) .
- Install the floor center console. Refer to «Console Replacement»(ref-187217-S27783040252005083100000) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Install the rear seats. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Rear No. 1»(ref-187230-S28240195132005083100000) in Seats.
- Install the front seats. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-187230-S27992327302005083100000) in Seats.
- Remove the rear seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Rear No. 1»(ref-187230-S28240195132005083100000) in Seats.
- Remove the rear door sill trim plates. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear»(ref-187215-S08503312222005083100000) .
- Remove the liftgate door sill trim plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187215-S01314339022005083100000) .
- Remove the trim panels for the rear quarter. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Left Body Side»(ref-187215-S27101255582005083100000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Right Body Side»(ref-187215-S15201281362005083100000) .
- Remove the rear carpet from the vehicle.
- Install the rear carpet to the vehicle.
- Install the liftgate door sill trim plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187215-S01314339022005083100000) .
- Install the trim panels for the rear quarter. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Left Body Side»(ref-187215-S27101255582005083100000) or «Trim Panel Replacement - Right Body Side»(ref-187215-S15201281362005083100000) .
- Install the door sill trim plates. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Rear»(ref-187215-S08503312222005083100000) .
- Install the rear seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Rear No. 1»(ref-187230-S28240195132005083100000) in Seats.
| CAUTION | If the energy absorbing foam breaks while you are removing or installing the headliner, use a NEW headliner. If you do not replace the damaged headliner, future personal injury is possible. |
| IMPORTANT | Should some damage occur, other that the Energy Absorbing Foam, during the removal or the installation of the headliner, do not consider the headliner unusable. If there is no visible evidence of the damage to the headliner substrate of the cloth material that would be seen, the headliner is usable. |
- Remove the rear seat No. 2, if equipped. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Rear No. 2»(ref-187230-S22223208852005083100000) in Seats.
- Remove the spare tire carrier. Refer to «Spare Tire Carrier Replacement»(ref-187242-S01347419292005083100000) in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the rear pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Remove the lock pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Remove the rear side window garnish trim.
- Remove the rear lift gate opening upper garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187243-S20317004132005083100000) .
- Remove the left body side trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Left Body Side»(ref-187215-S27101255582005083100000) .
- Remove the hinge pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar»(ref-187215-S27286437232005083100000) .
- Remove the windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar»(ref-187215-S17714370252005083100000) .
- Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to «Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper»(ref-187217-S16609271192005083100000) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Remove the driver side knee bolster. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Knee Bolster»(ref-187217-S19396169522005083100000) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Disconnect the headliner wire harness connectors from the lower left instrument panel bussed electrical connectors (BEC).
- Route the wire harness up through the instrument panel.
- Remove the sunroof lace if equipped with sunroof.
- Remove the dome lamps. Refer to «Dome Lamp Replacement»(ref-187211-S16078449122005083100000) in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the upper assist handles. Refer to «Assist Handle Replacement - Rear»(ref-187215-S21158050622005083100000) .
- Remove the sunshades. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(ref-187215-S36908867292005083100000) .
- Remove the overhead console. Refer to «Console Replacement - Overhead (Full Length)»(ref-187215-S02423310712005083100000) or «Console Replacement - Overhead (Short Length)»(ref-187215-S37639558712005083100000) .
- Partially remove all door opening weather stripping and position away from the headliner.
- Move the front seats to the full forward position and move the seat backs to the full forward position also.
- Fold the rear No. 1 seats to the full flat position.
- Remove the push pins retainers that hold the headliner.
- Rest the headliner on the seats.
- Disconnect the rear washer hose.
- The headliner should be removed through the rear lift gate opening. Position the headliner on an angle from the lower left corner to the upper right corner of the lift gate opening.
- Position 2 people at the rear of the vehicle and 2 at each of the rear doors. Begin to guide the headliner out of the vehicle by slightly flexing it to gain clearance through the lift gate opening.
- Slowly guide the headliner out of the rear lift gate opening and ensure that the edges of the headliner do not get caught on the body sheet metal.
- As the headliner moves rearward in the vehicle, the people located at the rear doors should move to the rear lift gate opening to complete the removal of the headliner.
- Place the headliner on a clean prepared surface.
| CAUTION | If the energy absorbing foam breaks while you are removing or installing the headliner, use a NEW headliner. If you do not replace the damaged headliner, future personal injury is possible. |
| IMPORTANT | To minimize damage to the headliner it is necessary that 4 people perform in the removal and installation process. |
| IMPORTANT | Should some damage occur, other that the Energy Absorbing Foam, during the removal or the installation of the headliner, do not consider the headliner unusable. If there is no visible evidence of the damage to the headliner substrate or the cloth material that would be seen, the headliner is usable. |
- Using 4 people, position the headliner at the open rear lift gate.
- Gently flex the headliner to create a bow and slowly feed the headliner into the lift gate opening at an angle from the lower left to the upper right corners.
- Continue to feed the headliner into the vehicle. As the headliner is moved forward in the vehicle 2 people should move to the rear doors to complete the installation of the headliner into the vehicle.
- Rest the headliner on the seats.
- Connect the rear washer hose.
- Install the push pins retainers that hold the headliner.
- Return the rear seats to the full upright position.
- Return the front seats to the full rear position and recline the seat backs to the full upright position also.
- Install all door opening weather stripping.
- Install the sunshades. Refer to «Sunshade Replacement»(ref-187215-S36908867292005083100000) .
- Install the upper assist handles. Refer to «Assist Handle Replacement - Rear»(ref-187215-S21158050622005083100000) .
- Install the dome lamps. Refer to «Dome Lamp Replacement»(ref-187211-S16078449122005083100000) in Lighting Systems.
- Install the sunroof lace, if equipped with sunroof.
- Install the wire harness down through the instrument panel.
- Connect the headliner wire harness connectors to the lower left instrument panel bussed electrical connectors belch.
- Install the driver side knee bolster. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Knee Bolster»(ref-187217-S19396169522005083100000) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to «Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper»(ref-187217-S16609271192005083100000) in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Install the windshield garnish molding. Refer to «Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar»(ref-187215-S17714370252005083100000) .
- Install the hinge pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar»(ref-187215-S27286437232005083100000) .
- Install the left body side trim panel. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Left Body Side»(ref-187215-S27101255582005083100000) .
- Install the rear lift gate opening upper garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187243-S20317004132005083100000) .
- Install the rear side window garnish molding.
- Install the lock pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Install the rear pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Install the spare tire carrier. Refer to «Spare Tire Carrier Replacement»(ref-187242-S01347419292005083100000) in Tires and Wheels.
- Install the rear seat No. 2 if equipped. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Rear No. 2»(ref-187230-S22223208852005083100000) in Seats.
- Remove the hinge pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar»(ref-187215-S27286437232005083100000) .
- Remove the bolts that retain the assist handle to the vehicle.
- Remove the assist handle from the vehicle.
- Install the assist handle to the vehicle.
- Install the bolts that retain the assist handle to the vehicle.
- Install the hinge pillar garnish trim. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Hinge Pillar»(ref-187215-S27286437232005083100000) . Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Using a suitable flat bladed tool gently pry out retaining tabs to disengage retaining clips.
- Pull on the coat hook assembly to remove it from the body.
- Install the coat hook assembly into the body opening.
- Press in the retaining tabs to secure the coat hook assembly.
- Remove the overhead console from the headliner.
- Remove the broken door from the headliner.
- Remove the broken gear assembly from the console.
- Install the new door to the gear assembly overhead console.
- Install the new door to the overhead console.
- Attach the overhead console to the headliner. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Open the console compartment and remove the roof screws.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the overhead console.
- Remove the console.
- Connect the electrical connection to the console.
- Align the overhead console with the roof console holes.
- Install the console to the roof. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
| IMPORTANT | When removing some overhead consoles, the rear retaining tabs may be hot glued to the headliner. |
- Remove the console roof screws.
- If front tabs are glued to headliner, gently wiggle console to loosen console tabs from headliner.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the console.
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Using a hot melt glue gun, run a bead of glue on tabs and align the console to the headliner holes.
- Install the console roof screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Check for console operation.
- Insert a small flat-bladed tool into the access hole to disengage the primary retainer.
- Using firm upward pressure, push the sunshade elbow (3) up and rotate it to unlock the secondary retainer (2) from the body. When the secondary retainer (2) is disengaged from the body, the elbow (3) and retainer (2) will be recessed into the bezel (1) approximately 1/8 in (12.5 mm).
- Pull down to remove the sunshade (4) and bezel (3) as a complete assembly.
- Disconnect the electrical connection for the vanity mirror.
- Connect the electrical connector for the vanity mirror.
- Pull outward on the bezel (1) and rotate until the elbow (3) and bezel are flush with each other.
- Align the sunshade bezel (3) to the opening in the headliner (1) and the locking ring (2).
- Push the sunshade up until it locks into the locking ring and body. An audible click will be heard.
- Insert a suitable flat-bladed tool (2) into the opening at the front of the retainer and push the tool forward at a slight upward angle to contact the retaining clip (1).
- Press to disengage the clip from the body.
- Gently pull the retainer from the headliner.
- Remove the sunshade anchor.
- Align the sunshade anchor with the headliner and the body openings.
- Insert the retaining clip (1) through the anchor and the headliner.
- To fully seat the retainer in the body, firmly press on the retainer until you hear a click
- Using a suitable flat bladed tool, release the retaining tabs and remove the assist handle.
- Rotate the windshield garnish molding inboard to disengage the retaining tab, then rotate rearward to remove from vehicle.
- Disconnect the speaker connector.
- Remove the windshield garnish molding from the vehicle.
- Install the windshield garnish molding to the vehicle.
- Connect the speaker connector.
- Rotate the windshield garnish molding forward and outboard to engage the retaining tab.
- Install the assist handle and press in the retaining tabs.
- Firmly grasp the retaining fasteners and pull gently in order to disengage the fasteners.
- Remove the garnish molding from the vehicle.
- Inspect for broken or missing fasteners. Replace the fasteners as necessary before installation
- Align the garnish molding with the openings in the body.
- Install the retaining fasteners through the garnish molding.
- Press gently to fully engage the fasteners.
- Remove the spare tire carrier. Refer to «Spare Tire Carrier Replacement»(ref-187242-S01347419292005083100000) in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the lock pillar trim panel. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Remove the lift gate sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187215-S01314339022005083100000) .
- Remove the rear pillar garnish panel. Refer to «Garnish Molding Replacement - Rear Upper»(ref-187215-S12693221432005083100000) .
- Firmly grasp the front edge of the left body side panel and gently pull to disengage the retaining clips.
- Remove the left body side panel from the vehicle.
- Install the left body side panel to the vehicle.
- Align the retaining clips with the opening in the body and gently press to fully seat the retaining clips.
- Install the rear pillar garnish panel. Refer to «Garnish Molding Replacement - Rear Upper»(ref-187215-S12693221432005083100000) .
- Install the lift gate sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187215-S01314339022005083100000) .
- Install the lock pillar trim panel. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Install the spare tire carrier. Refer to «Spare Tire Carrier Replacement»(ref-187242-S01347419292005083100000) in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the rear pillar trim panel.
- Remove the inflator nozzle retaining nut.
- Remove the inflator bezel.
- Remove the inflator switch from the bezel.
- Using a suitable flat bladed tool, press downward on the door lock switch and rotate the top of the switch outward to disengage the switch from the trim panel.
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) pin and remove the electrical connector from the switch.
- Remove the lift gate sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187215-S01314339022005083100000) .
- Remove the lock pillar trim panel. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Firmly grasp and gently pull up on the body side panel tray to disengage it from the body panel.
- Disconnect the 12 volt power supply electrical connector.
- Remove the inflator nozzle from the panel.
- Firmly gasp and gently pull the front edge of the body panel to disengage the retaining clips.
- Remove the right side body panel from the vehicle.
- Inspect and replace any missing or broken retaining clips.
- Install the body panel to the vehicle.
- Align the retaining clips with he openings in the body and gently press to fully seat the clips.
- Connect the 12 volt power supply connector.
- Install the inflator nozzle into the body panel opening.
- Install the body side panel tray.
- Install the lock pillar trim panel. Refer to «Trim Replacement - Lock Pillar»(ref-187215-S19136424512005083100000) .
- Install the lift gate sill plate. Refer to «Door Sill Plate Replacement - Liftgate»(ref-187215-S01314339022005083100000) .
- Connect the electrical connector to the door lock switch and install the CPA.
- Install the door lock switch into the body panel.
- Install the inflator switch to the inflator bezel.
- Install the inflator bezel to the body panel.
- Install the inflator nozzle retaining nut.
- Install the rear pillar trim panel.
