  1. Check the A/T system DTCs with the HDS. Are DTCs P0705 and/or P0706 indicated? YES -Go to DTC troubleshooting P0705 (see «DTC P0705: SHORT IN TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH CIRCUIT (MULTIPLE SHIFT-POSITION INPUT»(ref-371294-S24084851022010090700000) ), P0706 (see «DTC P0706: OPEN IN TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH CIRCUIT»(ref-371294-S38975731552010090700000) ).• NO -Go to step 2.
  2. Move the shift lever to P, and set the parking brake.
  3. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see «INSTRUMENT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-336501-S12337604372009072700000) ).
  4. Remove the steering column covers.
  5. Disconnect the steering lock 6P connector.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I).
  7. Check if the ignition switch can be turned to LOCK (0). Can the ignition switch be turned to LOCK (0)? YES -Go to step 8. NO -Replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly (see «STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT»(ref-371295-S38491307392010090700000) ).
  8. Check the No. 32 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. Is the fuse OK? YES -Go to step 9. NO -Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again, repair a short to ground in the No. 32 (7.5 A) fuse circuit.
  9. Make sure the ignition switch is turned to LOCK (0).
  10. Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (30P).
  11. Check for continuity between steering lock 6P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the key interlock solenoid and the MICU.• NO -Go to step 13.
  12. Connect under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (30P) terminal No. 15 and body ground with a jumper wire.
  13. Check for continuity between steering lock 6P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 14. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the key interlock solenoid and the MICU.
  14. Move the shift lever to P.
  15. Remove the steering column covers (see «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-371295-S16070532972010090700000) )
  16. Disconnect the D3 switch/shift lock solenoid/park pin switch 6P connector.
  17. Do the park pin switch test (see «Park Pin Switch Test»(ref-336472-S40579986102012011000000) ). Is the switch OK? YES -Go to step 18. NO -Check the park pin switch installation. If the switch installation is OK, the park pin switch is faulty; replace the park pin switch (see «SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID/SHIFT LOCK STOP/SHIFT LOCK STOP CUSHION REPLACEMENT»(ref-371294-S04383313452010090700000) ), and retest.
  18. Check for continuity between D3 switch/shift lock solenoid/park pin switch 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short to body ground in the wire between D3 switch/shift lock solenoid/park pin switch and the MICU.• NO -Go to step 19.
  19. Check for continuity between D3 switch/shift lock solenoid/park pin switch 6P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 20. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between D3 switch/shift lock solenoid/park pin switch and body ground (G401).
  20. Check the A/T system Data List with the HDS.
  21. Do the transmission range switch test (see «TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST»(ref-371294-S05930979052010090700000) ).
  22. Disconnect the transmission range switch connector.
  23. Connect under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (30P) terminal No. 16 and body ground with a jumper wire.
  24. Check for continuity between transmission range switch connector terminal No. 7 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 25. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the transmission range switch.
  25. Disconnect the jumper wire from under-dash fuse/relay box connector P (30P).
  26. Check for continuity between transmission range switch connector terminal No. 6 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box (see «UNDER-DASH FUSE/RELAY BOX»(ref-336524-S41408565852009072700000) ).• NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the ground wire or poor ground (G101).

Scheme 12: Key Interlock Solenoid Test
  1. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see «DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-336501-S26341478552009072700000) ).
  2. Remove the steering column covers (see step 5 «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-371295-S16070532972010090700000) ).
  3. Disconnect the steering lock assembly 6P connector.
  4. Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, then turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I).
  5. Connect battery power to steering lock assembly 6P connector terminal No. 4, and ground to terminal No. 3. Then try turning the ignition switch to LOCK (0); the ignition switch should not turn.
  6. Disconnect battery power and ground from the terminals, then turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and remove the key; the ignition switch should turn and the key can be removed.
  7. If the key interlock solenoid does not work properly, replace the steering lock (see «STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT»(ref-371295-S38491307392010090700000) ).

  1. Connect the HDS to the DLC (A).
  2. Check the Park Pin Switch signal with the HDS in the A/T Data List while the shift lever is in P, and when the shift lever is moved to any position other than P. NOTE: If the HDS does not communicate with the PCM, troubleshoot the DLC circuit (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-336453-S21745645342009072700000) ).
  3. Check that the park pin switch signal is OFF while the shift lever is in P, and signal is ON when the shift lever is moved out of P.
  4. If the park pin switch signal is OK, test is complete, disconnect the HDS. If the signal is incorrect, go to step 5, and test the switch signal at the park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light connector.
  5. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see «DASHBOARD CENTER LOWER COVER DISASSEMBLY/REASSEMBLY»(ref-336501-S06814314892009072700000) ).
  6. Remove the steering column covers (see «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-371295-S16070532972010090700000) ).
  7. Disconnect the D3 switch/shift lock solenoid/park pin switch connector.
  8. Shift the shift lever to P, then check for continuity between D3 switch/shift lock solenoid/park pin switch connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. here should be no continuity.
  9. Shift the shift lever out of P, and check for continuity between terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be continuity.
  10. If the park pin switch tests OK, check for an open or short in the park pin switch wires. If the park pin switch does not perform as specified, do the shift lock troubleshooting (see «SHIFT LOCK SYSTEM CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-371294-S38858381052010090700000) ). If the circuit is OK, replace the park pin switch (see «PARK PIN SWITCH REPLACEMENT»(ref-371294-S11449721222010090700000) ).
  11. Install the shift lever assembly (see «SHIFT LEVER INSTALLATION»(ref-371294-S00383410952010090700000) ).

  1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-336470-S42886272002009072700000) ).
  2. Remove the left front door sill trim and left kick panel (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREAS»(ref-336498-S00856079632009072700000) ).
  3. Disconnect the 6P connector (A) from the under-dash fuse/relay box.
  4. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.
  5. If the continuity is not as specified, replace the ignition switch (see «Ignition Switch Replacement»(ref-336472-S42251184142009072700000) ).
  6. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-336470-S42886272002009072700000) ).

Scheme 17: Ignition Switch Replacement
  1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-336470-S42886272002009072700000) ).
  2. Remove the left front door sill trim and left kick panel (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREAS»(ref-336498-S00856079632009072700000) ).
  3. Disconnect the 6P connector (A) from the under-dash fuse/relay box.
  4. Remove the two screws and the ignition switch (B).
  5. Install the switch in the reverse order of removal.
  6. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-336470-S42886272002009072700000) ).
