Function Test

Note. For additional troubleshooting information on the Driving Position Memory System (DPMS), refer to the DPMS information (see DRIVING POSITION MEMORY SYSTEM (DPMS) ). The right power mirror actuator is controlled by the front passenger's power window switch. When the power mirror switch is operated, the power window master switch receives the signals from the power mirror switch and send them to the front passenger's power window switch. So if there is malfunction of the right power mirror actuator operation, do the door multiplex control unit (built into the power window master switch) input test (see POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH INPUT TEST ) and front passenger's power window switch input test (see FRONT PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW SWITCH INPUT TEST ). Also, the power mirror defoggers are controlled by door multiplex control unit and front passenger's power window switch, do the door multiplex control unit (built into the power window master switch) input test (see POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH INPUT TEST ) and front passenger's power window switch input test (see FRONT PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW SWITCH INPUT TEST ).

Scheme 27: Left Power Mirror Function Test
  1. Remove the power window master switch (see «REAR POWER WINDOW SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT»(ref-333619-S40754466402009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect the 13P connector from the power mirror switch and 37P connector from the power window master switch.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  4. Measure the voltage between body ground and the terminal No. 2 of the power mirror switch 13P connector with the ignition switch to ON (II). There should be battery voltage. If there is no battery voltage, check for: Blown No. 36 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. An open in the YEL wire. If there is battery voltage, go to step 5 .
  5. Check for continuity between the terminal No. 6 and body ground. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, check for: An open in the BLK wire. Poor ground (G401). If there is continuity, go to step 6 .
  6. Connect the terminals No. 2 and No. 10, and the terminals No. 5 (or No. 12) and No. 6 with jumper wires. The left mirror should tilt down (or swing left) with the ignition switch to ON (II). If the left mirror does not tilt down (or does not swing left), check for an open in the GRN (or PUR) wire between the left mirror and the 13P connector. If the wire is OK, check the left mirror actuator. If the mirror neither tilts down nor swings left, repair the RED wire. If the mirror works properly, check the mirror switch (see «POWER MIRROR SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT»(ref-333628-S30153598612009072100000) ).

Power Window Master Switch Input Test

Note. Before testing, troubleshoot the multiplex integrated control unit first, using B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A ).

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and remove the power window master switch (see «REAR POWER WINDOW SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT»(ref-333619-S40754466402009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect the 37P connector (A) from the power window master switch (B). *: With mirror defogger
  3. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 4 .
  4. With the connector still disconnected, do the following input tests. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 5 .   5. Reconnect the connector to the power window master switch, turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and do the following input tests at the following connector. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, the door multiplex control unit is faulty; replace the power window master switch (see «REAR POWER WINDOW SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT»(ref-333619-S40754466402009072100000) ). NOTE: After replacing the power window master switch, reset the power window control unit (see «RESETTING THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT»(ref-333619-S14437456172009072100000) ). Scheme 29: Front Passenger's Power Window Switch Input Test
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and remove the front passenger's power window switch (see «FRONT PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW SWITCH REPLACEMENT»(ref-333619-S12915818722009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect the 37P connector (A) from the front passenger's power window switch (B). *: With mirror defogger
  3. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 4 .
  4. With the connector still disconnected, do the following input tests. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 5 . NOTE: With the front passenger's power window AUTO UP/AUTO DOWN function, after replacing the switch, reset the power window control unit (see «RESETTING THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT»(ref-333619-S14437456172009072100000) ). An open in the UART wire (1) With mirror defogger NOTE: When testing for defogger function, holding a cup of hot water near the mirror glass will form steam that can assist in diagnosing a broken or under-performing defogger.
  5. Reconnect the connector to the front passenger's power window switch, turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and do there input tests at the following connectors.

Note. With the front passenger's power window AUTO UP/AUTO DOWN function, after replacing the switch, reset the power window control unit.

  1. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  2. If all the input tests prove OK, replace the front passenger's power window switch.   1. Remove the power window master switch (see «REAR POWER WINDOW SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT»(ref-333619-S40754466402009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect the 13P connector from the power mirror switch (A).
  3. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table below. Power Mirror Switch
  4. If the continuity is not as specified, remove the screws and replace the power mirror switch.

  1. Remove the mirror mount cover (see «POWER MIRROR ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-333628-S12762254012009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect the 16P connector (A) from the power mirror actuator (B).
  3. Check actuator operation by connecting power and ground according to the table.
  4. If the mirror fails to work properly, check for an open in the wire between the connector and the mirror holder. If the wire is OK, replace the mirror actuator (see «POWER MIRROR ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-333628-S12762254012009072100000) ). Defogger Test
  5. Measure the resistance between the terminals No. 1 and No. 2 of the 16P connector. There should be about 7 ohms.
  6. If the resistance is not as specified, check for an open in the wire between the connector and the mirror holder. If the wire is OK, replace the mirror holder (see «MIRROR HOLDER REPLACEMENT»(ref-333582-S21590896292009072100000) ).

Scheme 34: Actuator Replacement
  1. Remove the mirror holder (see «MIRROR HOLDER REPLACEMENT»(ref-333582-S21590896292009072100000) ).
  2. Remove the three TORX screws using a tamperproof T10 TORX bit.
  3. Remove the connectors (A) and the actuator (B). NOTE: The illustration shows without side turn signal light.
  4. Install the actuator in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 35: Actuator Harness Replacement
  1. Remove the mirror holder (see «MIRROR HOLDER REPLACEMENT»(ref-333582-S21590896292009072100000) ).
  2. Remove the power mirror (see «POWER MIRROR REPLACEMENT»(ref-333582-S13104155252009072100000) ).
  3. Remove the power mirror actuator.
  4. Remove the gasket (A), them remove the two TORX screws using a tamperproof T10 TORX bit, and connector (B) from power mirror. NOTE: The illustration shows with side turn signal light.
  5. Remove the cover (C) from the power mirror.
  6. Remove the harness (D) from the power mirror.
  7. Route the wire harness of the new actuator through the hole in the bracket reverse order of removal.
  8. Connect the connectors to the actuator and the side turn signal light securely.
  9. Install the actuator, the cover, and the gasket in the reverse order of removal.
  10. Install the power mirror on the door, and make sure the actuator, mirror defogger, and side turn signal light operation.
