  3. Disconnect the steering lock assembly connector.
  4. Check if the ignition switch can be turned to LOCK (0). Can the ignition switch be turned to LOCK (0)? YES - Go to step 5 . NO - Replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly (see «CHECK OF LOCK LEVER FORCE»(ref-333571-S17317095452009072100000) ).
  5. Make sure the ignition switch is turned to LOCK (0).
  6. Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connector R (24P).
  7. Check for continuity between steering lock assembly connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the key interlock solenoid and the MICU. NO - Go to step 8 .
  8. Disconnect the A/T gear position indicator panel light harness/park pin switch/D3 switch 6P connector, «SHIFT LEVER REMOVAL»(ref-371294-S15490999032010090700000) .
  9. Check for continuity between A/T gear position indicator panel light harness/park pin switch/D3 switch connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between A/T gear position indicator panel light harness/park pin switch/D3 switch connector terminal No. 1 and the MICU. NO - Go to step 10 .
  10. Check for continuity between A/T gear position indicator panel light harness/park pin switch/D3 switch 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Perform the Park Pin Switch Test, «Park Pin Switch Test»(ref-333610-S34590637822010062500000) . If the switch is OK, go to step 11. NO - Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between A/T gear position indicator panel light harness/park pin switch/D3 switch 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground (G403).
  11. Move the shift lever out of P.
  12. Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (34P).
  13. Disconnect the transmission range switch 10P connector.
  14. Check for continuity between under-dash fuse/relay box connector F (34P) terminal No. 27 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair a short to ground in the wire. NO - Go to step 15.
  15. Check for continuity between transmission range switch 10P connector terminal No. 6 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Perform the Transmission Range Switch Test, «TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST»(ref-371294-S05930979052010090700000) . If the switch is OK, substitute a known-good under-dash fuse/relay box and retest. NO - Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the transmission range switch and body ground (G101).

Key Interlock Solenoid Test

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX and PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES before doing repair or service.

Scheme 7: Key Interlock Solenoid Test
  1. Remove the steering column covers.
  2. Disconnect the steering lock assembly 6P connector (A) and then turn the ignition switch to ACC (I).
  3. Connect battery boltage to terminal No. 4 of the steering lock assembly and ground terminal No. 3, then try turning the ignition switch to LOCK (0); the ignition switch should not turn.
  4. Disconnect the power and ground from terminals, then turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and remove the key; the ignition switch should turn and the key can be removed.
  5. If the key interlock solenoid does not work as specified, replace the steering lock assembly (see «STEERING COLUMN INSPECTION»(ref-333571-S31148476132009072100000) ).

Scheme 8: Park Pin Switch Test
  1. Remove the shift lever assembly (see «Shift Lever Removal»(ref-333568-S03194058522009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect A/T gear position indicator panel light harness / park pin switch / D3 switch connector.
  3. Shift into P, and check for continuity between A/T gear position indicator panel light harness / park pin switch / D3 switch connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be no continuity.
  4. Shift out of the P position, and check for continuity between connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. There should be continuity.
  5. If the park pin switch tests OK, connect the connector and install the shift lever assembly (see «Shift Lever Installation»(ref-333568-S05398131232009072100000) ). If the park pin switch fails the test, replace the park pin switch (see «Park Pin Switch Replacement»(ref-333568-S25152475592009072100000) ).

SRS components are located in the area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before performing repairs or servicing.
