1. Remove the oil filter with the special tool.
2. Inspect the threads (A) and rubber seal (B) on the new filter. Wipe off the seat on the engine block, then apply a light coat of new engine oil to the filter rubber seal. Use only filters with a built-in bypass system.
3. Install the oil filter by hand.
4. After the rubber seal seats, tighten the oil filter clockwise with the special tool. Tighten: 7/8 turn clockwise Tightening torque: 22 N.m (2.2 kgf.m, 16 lbf.ft)
5. If eight numbers (1 to 8) are printed around the outside of the filter, use the following procedure to tighten the filter. Spin the filter on until its seal lightly seats against the block, and note which number is at the bottom. Tighten the filter by turning it clockwise seven numbers from the one you noted. For example, if number 2 is at the bottom when the seal is lightly seated, tighten the filter until the number 1 comes around to the bottom.
6. After installation, fill the engine with oil up to the specified level, run the engine for more than 3 minutes, then check for oil leakage.

1. Remove the oil filter (see «Engine Oil Filter Replacement»(ref-173991-S11048383682005041500000) ).
2. Remove the oil filter feed pipe.
3. Install the two 20 x 1.5 mm nuts (A) onto the new oil filter feed pipe. Hold one nut with wrench, then tighten the other nut.
4. Tighten the oil filter feed pipe to the block to 49 N.m (5.0 kgf.m, 36 lbf.ft), then remove the nuts from the oil filter feed pipe.
5. Install the oil filter (see «Engine Oil Filter Replacement»(ref-173991-S11048383682005041500000) ).

1. Drain the engine oil (see «Engine Oil Replacement»(ref-173991-S00584400902005041500000) ).
2. Turn the crankshaft so that the No. 1 piston is at top dead center (see step 3 on «TIMING BELT INSTALLATION»(ref-173990-S11684977822005041500000) ).
3. Remove the timing belt (see «TIMING BELT REMOVAL»(ref-173990-S32272518662005041500000) ).
4. Remove the idler pulley.
5. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor, then remove the timing belt drive pulley (see «TIMING BELT DRIVE PULLEY REPLACEMENT»(ref-173990-S29223184982005041500000) ).
6. Attach the chain hoist to the engine on the power steering (P/S) pump bracket (see step 53 on «ENGINE REMOVAL»(ref-173990-S30271460482005041500000) ).
7. Remove the jack from under the oil pan.
8. Remove the VTEC solenoid valve and oil filter assembly (see «VTEC SOLENOID VALVE TEST»(ref-173997-S37033948402005041500000) ).
9. Remove the oil pan (see «OIL PAN REMOVAL»(ref-173990-S09953003102005041500000) ).
10. Remove the oil screen (A).
11. Remove the mounting bolts and the oil pump assembly (B).

1. Remove the screws from the pump housing, then separate the housing and cover.
2. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor (A) and outer rotor (B). If the inner-to-outer rotor clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump assembly. Inner Rotor-to-Outer Rotor Radial Clearance Standard (New): 0.04-0.16 mm (0.002-0.006 in.) Service Limit: 0.20 mm (0.008 in.)
3. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotors (A) and pump housing (B). If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump assembly. Housing-to-Rotor Axial Clearance Standard (New): 0.02-0.07 mm (0.001-0.003 in.) Service Limit: 0.12 mm (0.005 in.)
4. Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor (A) and pump housing (B). If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump assembly. Housing-to-Outer Rotor Radial Clearance Standard (New): 0.14-0.19 mm (0.006-0.007 in.) Service Limit: 0.20 mm (0.008 in.)
5. Inspect both rotors and pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace the damaged parts if necessary.
6. Apply liquid thread lock (P/N 08713-0002) to the pump housing screws, then install the oil pump cover.
7. Check that the oil pump turns freely.

1. Remove the old oil seal from the oil pump.
2. Gently tap in the new oil seal until the special tool bottoms on the pump.
3. Remove any old liquid gasket from the oil pump mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.
4. Clean and dry the oil pump mating surfaces.
5. Install the oil pump (A). Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08718-0001 or 08718-0003, evenly to the block mating surface of the oil pump and to the inner threads of the bolt holes. NOTE: Do not install the parts if 4 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the old residue. Grease the lip of the oil seal, and apply new engine oil to the new O-rings (B). Install the dowel pins (C), then align the inner rotor with the crankshaft and install the oil pump. Clean the excess grease off the crankshaft, and check the seal for distortion.
6. Install the oil screen (D).
7. Install the oil pan (see «OIL PAN INSTALLATION»(ref-173990-S34215792872005041500000) ).
8. Install the VTEC solenoid valve and oil filter assembly (see «VTEC SOLENOID VALVE TEST»(ref-173997-S37033948402005041500000) ).
9. Install the timing belt drive pulley, then install the CKP sensor (see step 33 on «CRANKSHAFT & PISTON INSTALLATION»(ref-173990-S29369639022005041500000) ).
10. Install the idler pulley.
11. Install the timing belt (see «TIMING BELT INSTALLATION»(ref-173990-S11684977822005041500000) ).
12. Remove the chain hoist.
13. After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

1. Disconnect the oil pressure switch connector, then remove the oil pressure switch.
2. Remove any old liquid gasket from the switch and switch mounting hole.
3. Apply liquid gasket to the new oil pressure switch, then install the oil pressure switch. NOTE: Do not install the part if 4 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the old residue.
