Scheme 9: Gauge Assembly Replacement
  1. Remove the instrument panel (see «INSTRUMENT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-174030-S26507229652005042500000) ).
  2. Remove the screws from the gauge assembly (A), and spread a protective cloth (B) on the upper column cover.
  3. Disconnect the connectors (C), and remove the gauge assembly.
  4. Install the gauge in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 10: Coolant Temperature Gauge Needle Goes Past the Hot Mark
  1. Check for fuel and emissions related DTCs.
  2. If you find any, repair the problem, and clear the DTC before continuing.
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and disconnect PCM 32P connector A.
  4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and watch the coolant temperature gauge. Does the temperature gauge needle stay on the cold mark? (You may have to watch it for about 60 seconds.) YES - Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck, (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING»(ref-173995-S22023424662005041500000) ). If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original PCM. NO - Go to step 4.
  5. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and disconnect gauge assembly 30P connector A.
  6. Check for continuity between PCM 32P connector A No. 31 terminal and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short to ground between PCM 32P connector A No. 31 terminal and gauge assembly 30P connector A No. 29 terminal. NO - Replace the gauge assembly.

  1. Check for fuel and emissions related DTCs. If you find any, repair the problem, and clear the DTC before continuing.
  2. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and connect PCM 32P connector A No. 31 terminal to body ground with a jumper wire.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). After 60 seconds or more, does the temperature gauge needle move to the Hot side? YES - Check connections, If OK, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING»(ref-173995-S22023424662005041500000) ). If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original PCM. NO - Go to step 4.
  4. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and disconnect PCM 32P connector A.
  5. Check for continuity between PCM 32P connector A No. 31 terminal and gauge assembly 30P connector A No. 29 terminal. Is there continuity? YES - Replace the gauge assembly. NO - Repair open in the wire between PCM 32P connector A No. 31 terminal and gauge assembly 30P connector A No. 29 terminal.
