Scheme 4
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I).The shift lever must be in P.
  2. Disconnect the steering lock assembly connector.
  3. Check if the ignition switch can be turned to LOCK (0). Can the ignition switch be turned to LOCK (0)? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I) or ON (II), and move the shift lever to N.
  5. Measure the voltage between steering lock assembly connector terminal No. 4 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 6. NO -Check for a blown No. 32 (10 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, repair an open or short in the wire between the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the steering lock assembly connector.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I), and move the shift lever to P.
  7. Disconnect the D3 switch/park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light harness connector.
  8. Check for continuity between D3 switch/park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light harness connector terminals No. 2 and No. 6 with the shift lever in P, and with the shift lever out of P. Is there continuity when shift lever is in any position other than P, and no continuity when the shift lever is in P? YES -Check for an open in the wire between the multiplex integrated control unit and the D3 switch/ park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light harness connector. If the wire is OK, substitute a known-good multiplex integrated control unit and recheck. NO -Replace the park pin switch (see «SECONDARY SHAFT DISASSEMBLY»(ref-372405-S35113729002010092500000) )

Key Interlock Solenoid Test

Note. SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, precautions, and procedures before doing repair or servicing. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see DASHBOARD CENTER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) and lower steering column cover. Disconnect the steering lock assembly connector. Turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I). Connect positive battery power to steering lock assembly connector terminal No. 4, and ground terminal No. 3. Make sure that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK (0). Disconnect battery power, and make sure that the key can be turned to LOCK (0) position and removed from the cylinder. If the key interlock solenoid does not work correctly, replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock assembly. Install the driver's dashboard lower cover (see DASHBOARD CENTER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ) and the lower steering column cover.

Scheme 5: Park Pin Switch Test
  1. Remove the driver's side dashboard lower cover.
  2. Disconnect the D3 switch/park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light harness connector .
  3. Check for continuity between D3 switch/park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light harness connector terminals No. 2 and No. 6 while the shift lever is in P, and when the shift lever out of P.
  4. There should be no continuity when the shift lever is in P, and there should be continuity when the shift lever is in any position other than P.
  5. If the park pin switch is OK, connect the connector and install the driver dashboard lower cover. If the switch is faulty, replace the park pin switch (see «SECONDARY SHAFT DISASSEMBLY»(ref-372405-S35113729002010092500000) ).

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.

  1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-294696-S10915705022009102800000)
  2. Remove the left front door sill trim (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREAS»(ref-294711-S28919579412008081300000) ) and left kick panel (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - DOOR AREAS»(ref-294711-S28919579412008081300000) ).
  3. Disconnect the 6P connector from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
  4. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to graphic below.
  5. If the continuity checks do not agree with the table, replace the steering lock/switch.
  6. Connect the negative cable to the battery. See «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(ref-294696-S10915705022009102800000)
