Blower Unit Component Replacement
Note. The these items when overhauling the blower unit.
- The blower motor (A) and the dust and pollen filter (B) can be placed without removing the blower unit.
- Before reassembly, make sure that the recirculation control linkage and door move smoothly.

- Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system.
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. '
- Disconnect the suction and receiver lines from the evaporator core (see «EVAPORATOR CORE REPLACEMENT»(ref-291425-S22928259522008072800000) ).
- When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator (see «COOLANT CHECK»(ref-291395-S21783666122008072800000) ).
- Slide the hose clamps (A) back, then disconnect the inlet heater hose (B) and the outlet heater hose (C) from the heater core. Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on the electrical parts or the painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
- Remove the dashboard (see «DASHBOARD/ STEERING HANGER BEAM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-291426-S12330899782008072800000) ).
- Disconnect the drain hose (A) with air conditioning. Remove the clips (B), the mounting bolts, the mounting nuts, and the blower-heater unit (C).
- Remove the blower unit from the heater unit.
- Remove the self-tapping screws and the pipe cover (A). Remove the self-tapping screw and the pipe clamp (B), then carefully pull out the heater core (C) so you don't bend the inlet and outlet pipes.
- Remove the self-tapping screws and the pipe cover (D). Remove the bolts, the inlet and outlet pipes (E), and the expansion valve (F). If necessary, remove the self-tapping screws and the blower resistor (G). Remove the evaporator temperature sensor connector (H), then remove the self-tapping screws and the duct (I). Pull out the evaporator core (J) with the plate (K).
- Install the heater core and the evaporator core in the reverse order of removal.
- Install the heater unit in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Do not interchange the inlet and outlet heater hoses, and install the hose clamps securely. With air conditioning; be sure to connect the drain hose securely. Adjust the air mix control cable (see «AIR MIX CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-291401-S14728297862008072800000) ), the mode control cable (see «MODE CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-291401-S27723409052008072800000) ), and the recirculation control cable (see «RECIRCULATION CONTROL CABLE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-291401-S19936539622008072800000) ). Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio system. Set the clock. Refill the cooling system with engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(ref-291395-S21783666122008072800000) ). Make sure that there is no coolant leakage. Make sure that there is no air leakage.

- From under the dash, open the clamp (A), then disconnect the air mix control cable (B) from the air mix control linkage (C).
- Set the temperature control dial to Max Cool.
- Turn the air mix control linkage fully counterclockwise as shown above, and hold it. Attach the air mix control cable to the air mix control linkage, then install the air mix control cable housing into the clamp.
Scheme 25
- From under the dash, disconnect the mode control cable housing from the clamp (A), and disconnect the mode control cable (B) from the mode control linkage (C).
- Set the mode control dial to Vent.
- Turn the mode control linkage fully counterclockwise as shown above, and hold it. Attach the mode control cable to the mode control linkage, then snap the mode control cable housing into the clamp.
Scheme 26
- From under the dash, disconnect the recirculation control cable housing from the clamp (A), and disconnect the recirculation control cable (B) from the recirculation control linkage (C).
- Set the recirculation control lever to recirculate.
- Turn the recirculation control linkage fully clockwise as shown above, and hold it. Attach the recirculation control cable to the recirculation control linkage, then snap the recirculation control cable housing into the clamp.

- Disconnect the 4P connector from the blower resistor.
- Measure the resistance between the following terminals of the blower resistor and compare them with the values in (Scheme 27).
- If the resistance is not within the specifications, replace the blower resistor.

- Remove the glove box (see «GLOVE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-291426-S22436581622008072800000) ).
- Remove the filter lid (A) from the blower unit.
- Remove the filter (A) from the filter lid (B), and replace it.
- Install the filter in the reverse order of removal.
