- Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap (A). Wet the radiator cap seal with engine coolant, then install it on a commercially available pressure tester (B).
- Apply a pressure of 93-123 kPa (0.95-1.25 kgf/cm 2 , 14-18 psi).
- Check for a drop in pressure.
- If the pressure drops, replace the radiator cap.
Scheme 3
- Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap and fill the radiator with engine coolant to the base of the filler neck.
- Attach a commercially available pressure tester (A) to the radiator, and apply a pressure of 93-123 kPa (0.95-1.25 kgf/cm 2 , 14-18 psi).
- Inspect for engine coolant leaks and a drop in pressure.
- Remove the tester, and reinstall the radiator cap.
- Check for engine oil in the coolant and/or coolant in the engine oil.
Scheme 4
- Disconnect the 2P connectors from the radiator fan motor and condenser fan motor.
- Test the motor by connecting battery power to No. 2 terminal and ground to No. 1 terminal.
- If the motor fails to run, or does not run smoothly, replace it.
THERMOSTAT TEST
Replace the thermostat if it is stuck in the open position at room temperature.
To test a closed thermostat

- Suspend the thermostat (A) in a container of water. Do not let the thermometer (B) touch the bottom of the hot container.
- Heat the water, and check the temperature with a thermometer. Check the temperature when the thermostat first opens, then check the temperature again when the thermostat is fully open.
- Measure the lift height of the thermostat when it is fully open. If the thermostat is not within the specification, replace it. Standard Thermostat Lift Height: Above 8.0 mm (0.31 in.) Starts Opening: 169-176°F (76-80°C) Fully Open: 194°F (90°C)

- Remove the right front wheel.
- Remove the splash shield.
- Loosen the water pump pulley mounting bolts (A).
- Remove the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-320439-S08990678412009071400000) ).
- Remove the water pump bolts and pulley (B).
- Turn the water pump counterclockwise, and make sure that it turns freely. If it does not, replace the water pump (see «WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT»(/honda/fit/ge-2007-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ). NOTE: When checking the water pump, you may see a small amount of "weeping" from the bleed holes (A). This is normal.
- Install the water pump pulley (A), and loosely install the water pump pulley mounting bolts (B).
- Install the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-320439-S08990678412009071400000) ).
- Tighten the water pump pulley mounting bolts.
- Install the splash shield.
- Install the right front wheel.

- Drain the engine coolant (see «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(/honda/fit/ge-2007-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
- Remove the right front wheel.
- Remove the splash shield.
- Loosen the water pump pulley mounting bolts (A).
- Remove the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-320439-S08990678412009071400000) ).
- Remove the water pump pulley bolts and pulley (B).
- Remove the water pump (A) by removing the five bolts.
- Inspect and clean the O-ring groove and the mating surface of the engine block.
- Install the water pump with a new O-ring (B) in the reverse order of removal.
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
- Install the water pump pulley (A), and loosely install the water pump pulley mounting bolts (B).
- Install the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-320439-S08990678412009071400000) ).
- Tighten the water pump pulley mounting bolts.
- Install the splash shield.
- Install the right front wheel.
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open (see step 8 ).

- Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir. Make sure it is between the MAX mark (A) and MIN mark (B).
- If the coolant level in the coolant reservoir is at or below the MIN mark, add coolant to bring it up to the MAX mark, then inspect the cooling system for leaks.

- Remove the radiator cap.
- Remove the splash shield.
- Loosen the drain plug (A), and drain the coolant.
- Remove the drain bolt (A) located at the rear of the engine block.
- After the coolant has drained, reinstall the bolt with a new washer and tighten it securely.
- Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
- Remove, drain, and reinstall the coolant reservoir.
- Fill the coolant reservoir to the MAX mark (A) with Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 (P/N OL 999-9011).
- Pour Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck. NOTE: Always use Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 (P/N OL999-9011). Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50% antifreeze and 50% water. Do not add water. Engine Coolant Capacities (Including the coolant reservoir capacity of 0.44 L (0.116 US gal)): M/T model: At Coolant Change: 4.37 L (1.155 US gal) After Engine Overhaul: 4.86 L (1.284 US gal) A/T model: At Coolant Change: 4.47 L (1.181 US gal) After Engine Overhaul: 4.96 L (1.310 US gal)
- Loosely install the radiator cap.
- Start the engine, and let it run until it warms up (the radiator fan comes on at least twice).
- Turn off the engine. Check the level in the radiator, and add Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
- Put the radiator cap on tightly, then start the engine again, and check for leaks.
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
- Connect the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to the data link connector (DLC) (see step 2 on «GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION»(ref-320425-S37518858782009071400000) ).
- Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM). If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit (see «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-320426-S32678800202009071400000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Select BODY ELECTRICAL with the HDS.
- Select ADJUSTMENT in the GAUGE MENU with the HDS.
- Select RESET in the MAINTENANCE MINDER with the HDS.
- Select MAINTENANCE SUB ITEM 5 RESET with the HDS.

- Drain the engine coolant (see «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(/honda/fit/ge-2007-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
- Remove the thermostat cover (A), then remove the thermostat (B).
- Install the new rubber seal (C) onto the thermostat, then install thermostat and install the thermostat cover. NOTE: Install the thermostat with the pin (D) up.
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, then bleed the air from the cooling system (see step 8 ).
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.

- Drain the engine coolant (see «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(/honda/fit/ge-2007-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
- Remove the coolant reservoir.
- Remove the harness holder mounting bolt, then remove the harness holder (A) from the bracket.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose (A), the heater hose (B), and the water bypass hoses (C).
- Remove the thermostat housing assembly (D), then remove the thermostat (E).

- Install the new rubber seal (A) onto the thermostat, then install the thermostat (B) with pin (C) up, and install the thermostat cover (D).
- Install the thermostat housing assembly (E) with a new O-ring (F).
- Install the lower radiator hose (G), the heater hose (H), and the water bypass hoses (I).
- Install the harness holder (A) to the bracket.
- Install the coolant reservoir.
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, then bleed the air from the cooling system (see step 8 ).
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.

- Remove the air cleaner housing assembly (see «AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-320437-S29837794652009071400000) ).
- Remove the heater hose clamp bracket mounting bolt (A) and the harness holder mounting bolt (B).
- Disconnect the water bypass hose (C), then remove the harness holder (D) from the bracket.
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A) and the water bypass hose (B).
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor 1 connector (A), then remove the water outlet.
- Remove ECT sensor 1 (A) and the water bypass hose (B).

- Install ECT sensor 1 (A) with new O-ring (B).
- Install the water bypass hose (C).
- Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the water outlet mating surfaces, the bolts, and the bolt holes.
- Clean and dry the water outlet mating surfaces.
- Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08717-0004,08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009) to the cylinder head mating surface of the water outlet and to the inside edge of the bolts holes. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket. NOTE: Apply liquid gasket about 2.5 mm (0.098 in.) diameter bead along the broken line (A). If you apply liquid gasket P/N 08718-0012, the component must be installed within 4 minutes. If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.
- Install the water outlet, then reconnect the ECT 1 connector (A). NOTE: Wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil. Do not run the engine for at least 3 hours after installing the chain case.
- Install the upper radiator hose (A) and the heater hose (B).
- Install the harness holder (A), then tighten the harness holder mounting bolt (B) and the heater hose clamp bracket mounting bolt (C).
- Install the water bypass hose (D).
- Install the air cleaner housing assembly (see «AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-320437-S29837794652009071400000) ).
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open (see step 8 ).
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.

- Drain the engine coolant (see «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(/honda/fit/ge-2007-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
- Remove the thermostat housing (see «THERMOSTAT HOUSING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/honda/fit/ge-2007-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
- Remove the connecting pipe (A).
- Install the connecting pipe with a new O-ring (B).
- Install the thermostat housing (see «INSTALLATION»(/honda/fit/ge-2007-2014/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system) ).
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open (see step 8 ).
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.

- Remove the coolant reservoir.
- Disconnect the radiator fan motor connector (A), then remove the harness clamp (B).
- With A/C: Disconnect the condenser fan motor connector (C) and the A/C compressor clutch connector (D), then remove the harness clamps (E).
- Remove the radiator upper brackets.
- With A/C: Remove the condenser fan shroud assembly (A) and the radiator fan shroud assembly (B) from the radiator, then remove the condenser fan shroud assembly from the vehicle.
- Remove the radiator fan shroud assembly from right side of the engine compartment.

- Assemble the fan shrouds.
- Install the radiator fan shroud assembly (A).
- With A/C: Install the condenser fan shroud assembly (B).
- Install the radiator upper brackets.

- With A/C: Connect the condenser fan motor connector (C) and the A/C compressor clutch connector (D), then install the harness clamps (E).
- Install the coolant reservoir.

- Raise the vehicle on the lift to full height.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor 2 connector (A), then remove the harness clamp (B).
- With A/C: Remove the A/C compressor clutch connector (C) from the clamp, then remove the harness clamps (D).
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose (A).
- A/T model: Remove the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) cooler hoses (B), then plug the hose and line.
- Lower the vehicle on the lift.
- Remove the coolant reservoir.
- Disconnect the radiator fan motor connector (A), then remove the harness clamp (B).
- With A/C: Disconnect the condenser fan motor connector (C), then remove the harness clamp (D).
- Remove the upper radiator hose.
- Remove the radiator upper brackets.
- Pull up the radiator (A).
- With A/C: Remove the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly (B).
- Remove the radiator fan shroud assembly (C), radiator cap (D), the ECT sensor 2 (E), and the drain plug (F).
- Reassemble the radiator with new O-rings (G).
- Install the radiator. Make sure the lower cushions (H) are set securely.
- Install the radiator upper brackets.
- Install the upper radiator hose.
- Connect the radiator fan motor connector (A), then install the harness clamp (B).
- With A/C: Connect the condenser fan motor connector (C), then install the harness clamp (D).
- Install the coolant reservoir.
- Raise the vehicle on the lift to full height.
- Install the lower radiator hose (A).
- A/T model: Remove the plug from the hose and the line, then install the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) cooler hoses (B).
- Connect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor 2 connector (A), then install the harness clamp (B).
- With A/C: Install the A/C compressor clutch connector (C) to the clamp, then install the harness clamps (D).
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open (see step 8 ).
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
