Note. Air temperature must be between 59-100 °F (15-38 °C) during this procedure. The battery must be in good condition and fully charged.

- Battery test: 1. «DO THE BATTERY TEST»(/honda/cr-v/iv-2011-2015/remont/body-electrical/#battery) . Does the display indicate Good Battery? YES : The battery is OK. Charge the battery if necessary, then go to step 2. NO : If the display indicates Replace Battery or Bad Cell, «REPLACE THE BATTERY»(/honda/cr-v/iv-2011-2015/remont/body-electrical/#battery) , then go to step 2.
- Starting system check 1: 1. Connect the HDS to the DLC See «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM»(ref-595372-S19132079362014013100000) or «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS»(ref-595375-S37864539652014013100000) . 2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II). 3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the PCM. If it does not communicate, «TROUBLESHOOT THE DLC CIRCUIT»(ref-595375-S01818375202014013100000) . 4. Select ALL INJECTORS STOP in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu with the HDS. 5. Set the parking brake, then with the shift lever in P or N, turn the ignition switch to START (III) to crank the engine. Does the starter crank the engine normally? YES : Select PCM reset in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the HDS. NO : Go to step 3.
- Starting system check 2: 1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). 2. Check the electrical connections at the battery, the battery negative cable to the body, the engine ground cables, and the starter for looseness and corrosion. Then try starting the engine again. Does the starter crank the engine normally? Starter cranks normally Repairing the loose connection corrected the problem. The starting system is OK. Select PCM reset See «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM»(ref-595372-S19132079362014013100000) or «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS»(ref-595375-S37864539652014013100000) in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the HDS. Starter does not crank engine at all If the starter does not crank the engine at all, go to step 4. Starter cranks abnormally If the starter cranks the engine erratically or too slowly, go to step 5 . Starter does not disengage from torque converter ring gear with key released If the starter does not disengage from the torque converter ring gear when you release the key, replace the starter, or remove and disassemble it. Refer to «STARTER OVERHAUL»(ref-595439-S27921023592014013100000) and «STARTER REMOVAL, INSTALLATION, AND PERFORMANCE TEST»(ref-595439-S33956014282014013100000) . Check for the following: Starter solenoid and switch malfunction Dirty drive gear or damaged overrunning clutch Damaged torque converter ring gear
- Determine possible failure area (starter, starter circuit, ignition switch, transmission range switch): 1. Make sure the shift lever is in P or N. 2. Disconnect the starter subharness 1P connector (A). 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire. Terminal A Battery positive terminal Terminal B Starter subharness 1P connector No. 1 (B) Does the starter crank the engine? YES : Check the following items in the order listed until you find the problem in the circuit: NOTE: After the problem in the circuit is found and repaired, select PCM reset See «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM»(ref-595372-S19132079362014013100000) or «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS»(ref-595375-S37864539652014013100000) in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the HDS. Check for an open or short in the GRN wire and connectors between the starter cut relay, the ignition switch, and the under-hood fuse/relay box. Check for an open or short in the RED wire, BLK/WHT wire, and connectors between starter cut relay socket terminal No. 1 and the starter. Check for an open or short in the ORN wire, GRN wire, and connectors between the transmission range switch and the starter cut relay. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the transmission range switch and ground G101. Check for a faulty ignition switch. Check for a faulty starter cut relay. Check for a faulty transmission range switch. NO : Check for an open or short in the wire and connectors between the battery and the starter. Replace the starter, or remove and disassemble it, as necessary. Refer to «STARTER OVERHAUL»(ref-595439-S27921023592014013100000) and «STARTER REMOVAL, INSTALLATION, AND PERFORMANCE TEST»(ref-595439-S33956014282014013100000) . NOTE: After the problem in the circuit is found and repaired, select PCM reset See «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM»(ref-595372-S19132079362014013100000) or «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS»(ref-595375-S37864539652014013100000) in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the HDS.
- Starter test: 1. Connect the alternator, regulator, battery, and starter tester to the battery. NOTE: The probe is used for starter testing. 2. Do the STARTING TEST, check the cranking voltage and the current draw from the following service limit table. Voltage (V) Current (A) 8.5 or more 380 or less Are the cranking voltage and the current draw within the service limits? YES : Remove the starter, and inspect its drive gear and the torque converter ring gear for damage. Replace any damaged parts. Refer to «STARTER OVERHAUL»(ref-595439-S27921023592014013100000) and «STARTER REMOVAL, INSTALLATION, AND PERFORMANCE TEST»(ref-595439-S33956014282014013100000) . NOTE: After the problem in the circuit is found and repaired, select PCM reset See «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE A/T SYSTEM»(ref-595372-S19132079362014013100000) or «HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS»(ref-595375-S37864539652014013100000) in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the HDS. NO : Replace the starter, or remove and disassemble it. - Battery Terminal - Disconnection Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0). Disconnect and isolate the negative cable (A) from the battery. NOTE: Always disconnect the negative side first. Disconnect the positive cable (B) from the battery.
- Vehicle Lift Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.
- Front Splash Shield Remove the bolts (A), then remove the clips (B) that secure the front inner fender and the front splash shield (C) to the body. From under the front bumper (D), remove the clips (E). From under the body, remove the clips (F), then pull out the front splash shield.
- Starter Remove the starter bolts. Disconnect the cable and the connector. Remove the starter.

- Starter Performance - Test Clamp the starter firmly in a vise. Make the connections for this test using the thickest (gauge) wire possible (preferably the same gauge as used on the vehicle). NOTE: To avoid damaging the starter, never leave the battery connected for more than 5 seconds. Connect the battery as shown, and check for continuity between the B terminal and the starter body. If there is continuity, it is working properly. Disconnect the battery from the starter body, and check for continuity between the B terminal and the starter body. If there is no continuity, it is working properly. Connect the starter to the battery as shown, and confirm that the motor runs. If the electric current meets the specification when the battery voltage is at 11.5 V, the starter is working properly. Specification Electric Current: 90 A or less

- Starter Install the starter. Connect the cable, and the connector. Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal faces away from the starter when you connect it. Install the starter.
- Front Splash Shield Install the front splash shield (A), then install the bolts (B) and the clips (C, D). Make sure the clips snap into place securely.
- Battery Terminal - Reconnection NOTE: If the battery performance is abnormal, test the battery. Clean the battery terminals. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery. NOTE: Always connect the positive side first. Connect the negative cable (B) to the battery. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.
- Starter After Install - Check Start the engine to make sure the starter works properly.
