POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

Note. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may also be referred to as Engine Control Module (ECM).

FUEL SYSTEM

WARNINGALWAYS relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components.

FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE

Remove negative battery terminal. Remove fuel tank filler cap. Locate 12-mm banjo bolt on fuel filter. Place clean shop rag around banjo bolt and slowly loosen 12-mm banjo bolt one complete turn while holding fuel filter. On all models, always replace washers after loosening or removing bolts or nuts.

Quick-Connect Fittings

Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE. Check quick-connect fittings for dirt and clean if necessary. Grasp connector with one hand. With other hand, squeeze retainer tabs inward. (Scheme 5) Pull fuel lines apart.

HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S)

Protect HO2S electrical connector from damage when removing sensor. Ensure sensor is free of contaminants. Avoid using cleaning solvents of any type. Sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is less than 120°F (49°C). Always use anti-seize compound on threads prior to installation. Tighten sensor to specification.

Throttle Cable

  1. Ensure cable is routed properly and that cable moves smoothly without binding or sticking. Start engine and run at 3000 RPM with no loads and transmission in Park or Neutral, until radiator fan comes on. Allow engine to idle. Turn ignition off.
  2. With throttle link held against throttle lever, there should be no clearance. Check cable deflection at throttle linkage. See «THROTTLE BODY CABLE ADJUSTING SPECIFICATION»(ref-16333-S18968361922000122900000) . Use cable locknut and adjusting nut to correct cable deflection if necessary. Ensure throttle valve is fully open when accelerator pedal is fully depressed and that throttle valve is at idle position when pedal is released.
