USB device does not function (without navigation)

Note. Check the vehicle battery condition first (see 12 VOLT BATTERY (HYBRID) ). Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals. Check the USB device requirement: Mass-storage class ready digital audio player with USB 2.0 port More than 256 MB of RAM Support MP3, WMA, and AAC (encoded with the iTunes) files, DRM files are not supported Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see the Owner's Manual for more information. Always test the customers USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result that USB devices may work in newer vehicles, but not in order vehicles of the same model. If UNSUPPORTED appears on the display, the vehicle is OK, there is a software problem with the USB device.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Press the AUX button to select USB mode. NOTE: Do not connect the USB device. Is USB NO DATA displayed in the navigation display? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Go to step 14 .
  3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  4. Connect the customer's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation. Is the USB device working properly in the known-good vehicle? YES -Go to step 5. NO -If the audio-navigation unit displays UNSUPPORTED or MEDIA ERROR, the USB device may not be unsupported or is defective. If the audio screen displays USB NO MUSIC, the USB device may have no music files or wrong type music files are on the device. See the Owner's Manual for details on USB device requirements and approved file types.
  5. On the customer's vehicle, connect the customer's USB device to the USB port.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  7. Check the USB device operation in the customer's vehicle. Does the USB device work properly in the customer's vehicle? YES -The system is OK at this time. Inspect the connectors of the USB device, USB port and USB adapter for wear. NO -Go to step 8.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  9. On the customer's vehicle, connect the customer's USB device to the USB port.
  10. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector B (5P).
  11. Check for continuity between the USB adapter connector B (5P) and the USB port 5P connector according to the table. CONTINUITY REFERENCE CHART USB adapter control unit connector USB port connector B1 1 B2 2 B3 3 B4 4 B5 5 Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 15 . NO -Go to step 12.
  12. Disconnect the USB adapter 5P connector.
  13. Check for continuity between the USB adapter control unit connector B (5P) and the USB adapter 5P connector according to the table. CONTINUITY REFERENCE CHART USB adapter control unit connector USB adapter connector B1 1 B2 2 B3 3 B4 4 B5 5 Is there continuity? YES -Replace the USB adapter (see «AUDIO REMOTE SWITCH TEST»(ref-383939-S32342574752011021000000) ), then recheck. NO -Replace the USB harness, then recheck.
  14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  15. Measure the voltage between body ground and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 1. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 17 . NO -Go to step 16.
  16. Measure the voltage between body ground and audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 1. Is there battery voltage? YES -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. NO -Replace the audio unit (see «AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-383939-S05590354342011021000000) ).
  17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  18. Measure the voltage between body ground and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 11. Is there less than 0.2 V? YES -Go to step 19. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit.
  19. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  20. Disconnect audio unit connector E (14P) and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).
  21. Check for continuity between body ground and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a shot to body ground in the wire between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2 and audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 2. NO -Go to step 22.
  22. Check for continuity between audio unit connector E (14P) terminal No. 2 and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 23. NO -Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit.
  23. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector E (14P) terminals according to the table. CONTINUITY REFERENCE CHART Audio unit connector Wire color E9 BLU E10 PNK Is there continuity? YES -There is a short to body ground in the wire (s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness. NO -Go to step 24.
  24. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio unit connector E (14P) terminals according to the table. CONTINUITY REFERENCE CHART From terminal To terminals E3 (BRN) E9 (BLU), E10 (PNK) E9 (BLU) E10 (PNK) Is there continuity between any of the terminals? YES -There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness. NO -Go to step 25.
  25. Check for continuity between audio unit connector E (14P)and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) according to the table. CONTINUITY REFERENCE CHART Audio unit connector USB adapter control unit connector Wire color E9 A9 BLU E10 A10 PNK Is there continuity? YES -Substitute a known-good USB adapter control unit (see «SPEAKER TEST/REPLACEMENT»(ref-383939-S07928938612011021000000) ), then reconnect all of the connectors and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original USB adapter control unit (see «SPEAKER TEST/REPLACEMENT»(ref-383939-S07928938612011021000000) ). If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit (see «NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-351666-S16891260902009122700000) ). NO -There is an open in the wire (s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
