REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Vehicles are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). When servicing vehicle, use care not to cause accidental air bag deployment. All SRS electrical connections and wiring harness are covered with Yellow insulation. Related components are located in steering column, center console, instrument panel and lower panel on instrument panel. DO NOT use electrical test equipment on these circuits. It may be necessary to deactivate SRS before servicing components. See AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. |
Note. Honda Civic park pin switch and shift lock solenoid removal and installation procedures are not available.
Removal & Installation (Acura Integra & 3.5RL)
Remove center console. Disconnect parking pin switch harness connector. Remove screw from parking pin switch and remove switch. To install reverse removal procedure.
Removal (Honda CR-V)
- Remove instrument panel lower cover. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
- Remove steering column flange nuts, then lower steering column. Disconnect shift lock solenoid, park pin switch and OD switch. Remove harness clamp bracket. (Scheme 128)
- Remove bolts and shift lever assembly. Remove shift lock solenoid. Cut OD switch wires (Red wire and Black wire). Remove harness connector from shift lever control bracket. Remove control checker from shift lever control bracket.
- Remove park pin switch from control checker. Remove shift lever knob, then remove overdrive switch from selector knob.
Installation (Honda CR-V)
- Route NEW OD switch wires through shift lever knob, shift lever and shift lever control bracket. Install knob onto shift lever and switch into knob. Install NEW park pin switch onto control checker, then install control checker onto shift lever control bracket.
- Install OD switch wire terminals into connector cavities No. 1 and 2. (Scheme 130) Install shift lock solenoid by aligning joint of shift lock solenoid plunger with tip of shift lock extension. Install shift lock solenoid screws.
- Place shift lever in "N" position. Adjust OD switch wire clearance at shift lever control bracket. Wire clearance should be.5" (13 mm). (Scheme 129)
- To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Check shift lever and shift lock operation.

Removal & Installation (Honda Odyssey)
Parking pin switch must be replaced with shift lever assembly. For shift lever assembly removal and installation, see SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID .
Removal & Installation (Prelude)
Note. Replace parking pin switch, mode switch and detent bracket as a set.
- Remove gear position indicator panel light. Remove shift lever knob, then remove gear position indicator panel.
- Disconnect parking pin switch/mode switch harness connector and shift lock solenoid connector. Remove detent bracket from shift lever bracket base.
- Remove shift lock solenoid and related parts from detent bracket and install onto NEW detent bracket. (Scheme 131) Install detent bracket in reverse order of removal. Check shift lever operation.

Removal (Honda Accord)
- Place shift lever in Reverse. Remove center console. Remove nut and disconnect shift cable from shift lever.
- Rotate shift cable socket holder counterclockwise 1/4 turn, then slide holder out of shift lever bracket base. Disconnect shift lock solenoid and park pin switch. Remove bolts from shift lever base and remove shift lever assembly. For shift lever assembly component removal, refer to appropriate illustration. (Scheme 132)
Installation (Honda Accord)
- Install shift lever assembly. Install shift cable and rotate counterclockwise 1/4 turn to lock cable into bracket.
- Turn ignition on, and verify "R" position indicator light illuminates. Ensure transaxle is in Reverse. If necessary, push shift cable in until it stops, then pull cable back one step for Reverse.
- Insert a.24" (6 mm) pin through positioning hole on shift lever bracket base and shift lever assembly. To locate shift lever positioning holes, refer to appropriate illustration. (Scheme 133) Reconnect shift cable and tighten nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 N.m). Ensure selected gear positions match indicated gear positions. Ensure shift lock operates correctly.

Removal & Installation (Acura Integra)
- Remove center console. Disconnect harness connector at shift lock solenoid. Remove solenoid pin from shift lock solenoid. Remove mounting nuts and shift lock solenoid.
- Apply silicone grease to shift lock solenoid mating surfaces with shift lock extension. Install shift lock solenoid with NEW nuts snugly installed. Install pin, collar and harness connector.
- Turn ignition on. With shift lock solenoid energized, ensure clearance between top rear of shift lock lever and lock pin groove is.078-.118" (2.0-3.0 mm). (Scheme 134) Tighten mounting nuts to specifications. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-121437-S19121402532001082500000).
- Turn ignition off. Ensure lock pin is blocked by shift lock lever. (Scheme 134) Check solenoid operation several times to ensure proper operation.

Removal & Installation (Acura 3.5RL)
- Remove center console. Disconnect harness connector at shift lock solenoid. Remove gear shift knob. Remove lock nuts and through bolts, then remove gear position panel. Remove mounting bolts and shift lock solenoid.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure there is clearance between stop pin and base bracket when solenoid is on and off. (Scheme 135) Tighten gear position panel through-bolt nut. Tighten shift lock solenoid mounting bolts to specifications. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-121437-S19121402532001082500000).

Removal & Installation (Honda Accord & Prelude)
- Remove center console. Disconnect shift lock solenoid harness connector. Using a screwdriver, pry shift lock solenoid clamp, then remove shift lock solenoid.
- To install, align shift lock solenoid joint with tip of shift lock stop. Secure shift lock solenoid with clamp.
Removal & Installation (Honda CR-V)
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument panel lower cover. Remove upper and lower steering column cover.
- Remove flange nuts and bolts securing steering column. Lower steering column. Disconnect shift lock solenoid and parking pin switch harness connectors. Remove shift lever assembly. Remove shift lock solenoid mounting screws. Remove shift lock solenoid.
- To install, align shift lock solenoid plunger joint with tip of shift lock extension. Install and tighten solenoid mounting screws to specifications. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-121437-S19121402532001082500000) . Check shift lever operation and shift lock operation.
- Turn ignition off. Remove steering column covers. Place shift lever in "N" position. Remove nut from shift cable end, then separate cable from shift lever assembly. Disconnect shift lock solenoid harness connector and park pin switch harness connector. Remove bolts and shift lever assembly. Remove screws securing shift lock solenoid. Remove shift lock solenoid.
- Install shift lock solenoid plunger and spring into NEW shift lock solenoid. Install shift lock solenoid and tighten screws. Install shift lever assembly and tighten bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 N.m).
- Align positioning holes on detent plate and control bracket, then insert a.24" (6 mm) pin into positioning holes. (Scheme 136) Install shift cable into shift cable assembly and tighten nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 N.m).
- Remove.24" (6 mm) pin from shift lever assembly. Reconnect shift lock solenoid harness connector and park pin switch harness connector. Ensure selected gear positions match indicated gear positions. Ensure shift lock operates correctly. Install steering column covers.
