MODEL IDENTIFICATION
DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
Power mirror assemblies contain 2 motors each. One motor positions the mirror up and down and the other right and left. Reversing polarity of motors will move power mirrors in opposite directions. The power mirror switch is located on the left door trim panel.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer system have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION Section before disconnecting battery. |
Before proceeding with specific testing, check the following for proper operation
- Check courtesy light and 15-amp courtesy light fuse for proper operation.
- Check power seat system operation. Ensure power accessory circuit breaker is okay.
- Check and ensure grounds are clean and tight.
- Manually operate door locks. Ensure lock rods and lock mechanism function are normal.
- Examine sliding door contact switch for damage.
- If power accessory circuit breaker opens when power door locks are operated, check for possible short to ground.
- Check for broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction, but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring voltage drop with system operational (under load).
- Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment.
If the above items check out okay, proceed to following trouble shooting procedures
Left or Right Power Mirror Inoperative
Check power mirror switch, power mirror, motor(s), wiring and ground.
Memory Function Does Not Return To Memorized Position
Ensure memorized position set in driving position switch. Check driving position switch. Check tilt and telescoping ECU. Check mirror ECU. Check mirror sensors. Check wiring and ground.
TESTING
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer system have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION Section before disconnecting battery. |
Note. (Scheme 1)wiring diagram to assist in testing procedures.
BOTH POWER MIRRORS DO NOT OPERATE
- Disconnect outside power mirror switch. Connect test light between Orange wire and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open circuit in Orange wire.
- Connect test light between Orange and Black wires. If test light illuminates, repair open circuit in Red wire. If Red wire is okay, replace power mirror switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open circuit in Black wire.
LEFT POWER MIRROR DOES NOT MOVE LEFT AND RIGHT
- Disconnect left power mirror. Press switch in LEFT position. Connect test light between Red wire and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open circuit in Red wire. If Red wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
- Press switch in RIGHT position. Connect test light between Light Blue wire and ground. If test light illuminates, replace left power mirror. If test light does not illuminate, repair open circuit in Light Blue wire. If Light Blue wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
LEFT POWER MIRROR DOES NOT MOVE UP AND DOWN
- Disconnect left power mirror. Press switch in UP position. Connect test light between Red wire and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open circuit in Red wire. If Red wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
- Press switch in DOWN position. Connect test light between Light Blue wire and ground. If test light illuminates, replace left power mirror. If test light does not illuminate, repair open circuit in Light Blue wire. If Light Blue wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
RIGHT POWER MIRROR DOES NOT MOVE LEFT AND RIGHT
- Disconnect right power mirror. Press switch in RIGHT position. Connect test light between Red wire and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open circuit in Red wire. If Red wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
- Press switch in LEFT position. Connect test light between Gray wire and ground. If test light illuminates, replace right power mirror. If test light does not illuminate, repair open circuit in Gray wire. If Gray wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
RIGHT POWER MIRROR DOES NOT MOVE UP AND DOWN
- Disconnect right power mirror. Press switch in UP position. Connect test light between Red wire and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open circuit in Red wire. If Red wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
- Press switch in DOWN position. Connect test light between Purple/White wire and ground. If test light illuminates, replace right power mirror. If test light does not illuminate, repair open circuit in Purple/White wire. If Purple/White wire is okay, replace mirror switch.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| CAUTION | When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer system have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION Section before disconnecting battery. |
Disconnect negative battery cable. Squeeze ends of switch bezel housing while pulling switch bezel housing away from door trim panel. Gently pry locking tabs of switch terminal block away from switch. Carefully remove terminal block. To install, reverse removal procedure.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove trim panel pull strap (if equipped), by removing plug on each side of strap and screws underneath. Remove door handle bezel, armrest screws and armrest. Using Door Handle Clip Remover (J 9886-01), remove window handle (if equipped).
- Use Trim Pad Retainer Clip Remover (J 24595-C) and remove retainers from inner door panel. Remove door trim panel. Remove bezel with switches through cut-out in trim panel. Remove nuts holding power mirror to door. Disconnect electrical connector. Remove power mirror assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten power mirror mounting nuts to 88 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).
