Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LV3)

Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (L83, LV3)

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-650992-S00449252152014081900000) .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill Gasoline)»(ref-651030-S17228941602014081900000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)»(ref-651030-S35285794042014081900000) .
  3. Remove the right exhaust manifold outlet pipe. Refer to .
  4. Remove the bolts (1) to the rear EGR bracket (2).
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Remove the generator. Refer to «Generator Replacement (L83, L86, LV1, LV3)»(ref-651026-S27259725632014081900000) .
  7. Remove the intake manifold tube. Refer to .
  8. If equipped with LML, remove the EGR bypass pipe bolts (1) and the rear EGR bypass pipe bolts (3).
  9. If equipped with LML, remove the EGR bypass pipe center mounting bolt (5) and remove the EGR bypass pipe (6).
  10. Remove the rear EGR cooler to front EGR cooler bolts (1).
  11. Remove the turbocharger air inlet adapter. Refer to .
  12. Remove the following hoses: Cooling Feed Hose (1) Cooling Feed Hose (2) Heater Water Bypass Hose (3) Heater Inlet Hose (4)
  13. Remove the rear EGR mounting bolts (1) and let the bracket fall to the floor.
  14. Disconnect the EGR bypass valve electrical connector.
  15. Remove the rear EGR cooler and discard the gasket.
  16. Transfer the EGR bypass valve to the rear EGR cooler.

Installation Procedure

  1. Loosely install the rear EGR mounting bolt (1) to the EGR bracket (2) as shown.
  2. Position the rear EGR cooler (1) and the NEW gasket (2), on top of the engine.
  3. Rotate the EGR bracket into place and loosely tighten the rear EGR mounting bolts (1).
  4. Raise the vehicle.
  5. Install the rear EGR bracket bolts (1) and tighten to 25 (18 lb ft).
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Tighten the rear EGR mounting bolts (1) to 53 (39 lb ft).
  8. Install the turbocharger air inlet adapter to the turbocharger. Refer to .
  9. Install the front EGR cooler bolts to the rear EGR cooler and tighten the bolts (1) to 25 (18 lb ft).
  10. Install the following hoses: EGR Cooling Feed Hose (1) EGR Cooling Feed Hose (2) Heater Water Bypass Hose (3) Heater Inlet Hose (4)
  11. Connect the EGR bypass valve electrical connector.
  12. If equipped with LML, install the EGR bypass pipe center mounting bolt (5) and tighten to 10 (89 lb in).
  13. If equipped with LML, install the EGR bypass pipe bolts (1) and the rear EGR bypass pipe bolts (3). Tighten to 25 (18 lb ft).
  14. Install the intake manifold tube. Refer to .
  15. Install the right exhaust manifold outlet pipe. Refer to .
  16. Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill Gasoline)»(ref-651030-S17228941602014081900000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)»(ref-651030-S35285794042014081900000) .
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(ref-650992-S00449252152014081900000) .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill Gasoline)»(ref-651030-S17228941602014081900000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)»(ref-651030-S35285794042014081900000) .
  3. Remove the generator. Refer to «Generator Replacement (L83, L86, LV1, LV3)»(ref-651026-S27259725632014081900000) .
  4. Reposition the A/C compressor without discharging the refrigerant. Refer to «Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LV3)»(ref-651014-S12955681432014081900000) , «Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (L83)»(ref-651014-S30971541712014081900000) .
  5. Remove the turbocharger coolant feed hose. Refer to .
  6. Remove the intake manifold tube. Refer to .
  7. If equipped with LML, remove the EGR bypass pipe bolts (1) and the rear EGR bypass pipe bolts (3).
  8. If equipped with LML, remove the EGR bypass pipe center mounting bolt (5) and remove the EGR bypass pipe (6).
  9. Remove the EGR valve bolts (1) and disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector.
  10. Remove the EGR manifold cooling return hose (2) and the front EGR cooler mounting bolt (1).
  11. Remove the rear EGR cooler to front EGR cooler bolts (1).
  12. Remove the front EGR cooler mounting bolts (1).
  13. Remove the front EGR cooler (2) and discard the gasket (1).
  1. Position the front EGR cooler (2), with a NEW gasket, to the rear EGR cooler.
  2. Install the front EGR cooler to the rear EGR cooler. Tighten the bolts (1) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  3. Install the front EGR mounting bolts (1) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  4. Install the EGR manifold cooling return hose (2) and the mounting bolt (1). Tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  5. Install NEW gaskets to the EGR valve; intake manifold and the front EGR cooler. Tighten the EGR valve bolts (1) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  6. Connect the EGR valve electrical connector.
  7. If equipped with LML, install the EGR bypass pipe center mounting bolt (5) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  8. If equipped with LML, install NEW gaskets (2, 4) and tighten the EGR bypass bolts (3) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  9. If equipped with LML, install the EGR bypass valve to the EGR valve bolts (1). Tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  10. Install the intake manifold tube. Refer to .
  11. Install the generator. Refer to «Generator Replacement (L83, L86, LV1, LV3)»(ref-651026-S27259725632014081900000) .
  12. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to «Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LV3)»(ref-651014-S12955681432014081900000) , «Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (L83)»(ref-651014-S30971541712014081900000) .
  13. Fill the cooling system. Refer to «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill Gasoline)»(ref-651030-S17228941602014081900000) , «Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)»(ref-651030-S35285794042014081900000) .

Disconnect the heater inlet and outlet hoses from the engine coolant manifold. NOTE: Tighten the water pump bolts in the sequence shown.

  2. Remove the front compartment side sight shield. Refer to «Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement»(ref-651006-S09190975902014081900000) .
  3. Unclip the radiator surge tank inlet hose (3) from the engine coolant fan rear shroud and reposition out of the way. Refer to «Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Replacement (Surge Tank To Radiator L83, LV3)»(ref-651030-S13833522632014081900000) , «Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Replacement (Surge Tank To Water Outlet L83)»(ref-651030-S37127330382014081900000) , «Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Replacement (Surge Tank To Water Outlet LV3)»(ref-651030-S12867252132014081900000) .
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the engine coolant fans and reposition out of the way.
  5. Unclip the electrical harness from the engine coolant fan rear shroud.
  6. Unclip the radiator outlet hose retainers (2) from the engine coolant fan rear shroud. Refer to «Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (L83)»(ref-651030-S26105066592014081900000) , «Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LV3)»(ref-651030-S17689244922014081900000) .
  7. Remove the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe from the radiator. Refer to «Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LV3)»(ref-651119-S27636677462014081900000) , «Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (L83)»(ref-651119-S26006950032014081900000) .
  8. Unclip the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe from the engine coolant fan rear shroud.
  9. Remove the engine oil cooler hose from the radiator. Refer to «Engine Oil Cooler Hose Replacement»(ref-651099-S29242148532014081900000) .
  10. Unclip the engine oil cooler hose from the engine coolant fan rear shroud.
  11. Remove the engine coolant fan rear shroud bolts (1).
  12. Remove the engine coolant fan rear shroud (1) from the vehicle.
  1. Install the engine coolant fan rear shroud (1) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the engine coolant fan rear fan shroud bolts (1) and tighten to 7 (62 lb in).
  3. Install the engine oil cooler hose to the radiator. Refer to «Engine Oil Cooler Hose Replacement»(ref-651099-S29242148532014081900000) .
  4. Install the engine oil cooler hose to the engine coolant fan rear shroud.
  5. Install the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe to the radiator. Refer to «Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LV3)»(ref-651119-S27636677462014081900000) , «Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (L83)»(ref-651119-S26006950032014081900000) .
  6. Install the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe to the engine coolant fan rear shroud.
  7. Install the radiator outlet hose retainers (2) to the engine coolant fan rear shroud. Refer to «Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (L83)»(ref-651030-S26105066592014081900000) , «Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LV3)»(ref-651030-S17689244922014081900000) .
  8. Install the electrical harness to the engine coolant fan rear shroud.
  9. Connect the electrical connectors to the engine coolant fans.
  10. Install the radiator surge tank inlet hose (3) to the engine coolant fan rear shroud.   2. Install the engine coolant fan rear fan shroud bolts (1) and tighten to 7 (62 lb in).

  7. Remove the air conditioning condenser bracket (2) from the radiator. Refer to «Air Conditioning Condenser Bracket Replacement (L83, LV3)»(ref-651014-S34403851512014081900000) .
  8. Without disconnecting the air conditioning compressor and condenser hoses, carefully lift the air conditioning condenser assembly off the radiator and position out of the way.
  9. Tilt the radiator rearward and release the radiator air lower baffle retaining tabs from the radiator. Refer to «Radiator Air Lower Baffle Replacement (L83, LV3)»(ref-651030-S11223842052014081900000) .
  10. Remove the radiator (1) from the vehicle.
  11. If replacing the radiator transfer the components as necessary.
  1. Install the radiator (1) to the vehicle.

  3. Carefully install the air conditioning condenser assembly to the radiator.

Preliminary Procedures Remove the engine coolant fan rear shroud from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Rear Shroud Replacement (LV3) , Engine Coolant Fan Rear Shroud Replacement (L83) . Remove the front end upper tie bar support. Refer to Front End Upper Tie Bar Support Replacement . Raise the condenser and radiator as and assembly (CRA) upward and support CRA above lower tie-bar. Push downward on radiator air lower baffle to remove the left and right radiator air baffle retaining tabs from the radiator air lower baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Replacement - Left (LV3) , Radiator Air Baffle Replacement - Left (L83) and Radiator Air Baffle Replacement - Right (LV3) , Radiator Air Baffle Replacement - Right (L83) . NOTE: Some early builds have 1 or 2 tie straps holding the baffle to the radiator at the inner tabs. Cut tie strap before removing baffle.
1Radiator Air Lower Baffle Procedure Push each of the four radiator air lower baffle retaining tabs inward to disengage the radiator air lower baffle from the radiator.
