Starters GMC S15 Pickup

2WD "S" SERIES

Note. If shims are installed between starter and engine, note and record the arrangement for installation reference.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise vehicle. Remove starter braces and shields (if equipped). Disconnect electrical wiring from starter solenoid. Remove starter mounting bolts and allow starter motor to drop away from engine.
2. Remove shims and note arrangement for reassembly. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure shims are installed in original location. Tighten bolts or nuts to specifications.

4WD "T" SERIES

Note. If shims are installed between starter and engine, note and record the arrangement for installation reference.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect electrical wiring from starter solenoid. Remove mounting bracket and wiring from brush end of starter. Remove skid plate. Remove 2 brackets holding brake line to crossmember.
2. Remove 6 bolts retaining crossmember and remove crossmember. Remove bracket retaining transmission cooler lines to flywheel housing, brace rod to flywheel housing and/or lower flywheel housing cover (as necessary).
3. Remove bolts retaining starter and remove starter. Note shims for reassembly. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts and nuts to specifications.

TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
