CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

A Permanent Magnet (PM) motor operates each power window. Each motor raises and lowers the glass when voltage is supplied to it. The direction the motor turns depends on polarity of the supply voltage. The switches control the supply voltage polarity.

The master door lock/power window switch assembly controls both motors. The right window switch controls only the right window motor. Each motor is protected by a built-in circuit breaker. If a window switch is held too long with the window obstructed or after the window is fully up or down, the circuit breaker opens the circuit. The circuit breaker resets automatically as it cools.

When the ignition switch is in RUN or ACC position, battery voltage is supplied to the master door lock/power window switch assembly, the ACC-IGN circuit breaker and PNK (76) wires. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . When any of the UP switches are operated, battery voltage is supplied to the window motor through DK BLU (164) wire. The window motor is grounded through the DN contact. The motor runs to drive the window up. When any of the DN switches are operated, battery voltage is supplied to the window motor in the opposite direction through the BRN (165) wire. The window motor is grounded through the UP contact. The motor runs to drive the window down.

PRELIMINARY INSPECTION

Verify customer complaint by operating system. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for blown fuses and damaged relays. Inspect for loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary. If no fault is found, perform POWER WINDOW SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
