This device requires no programming or setup.
Programming the BCM
Note. The vehicle will not start and many other functions may not operate properly if a replacement BCM is not properly set up. The following procedures must be completed.
Note. After the procedure is completed, the personalization settings of the BCM are set to default settings. Inform the customer that the personalization must be set again.
- Programming the BCM-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-610060-S12557634442014042100000) .
- Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Sensor calibration-Refer to «Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration»(ref-610047-S11928005492014042100000) .
- Learning the Restraints ID-Navigate to Body Control Module > Configuration/Reset Functions > Setup SDM Part Number in BCM, then follow the instructions on the screen.
Note. After any programming or setup, perform the following to avoid future misdiagnosis
- Turn the ignition OFF for 10 s.
- Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector.
- Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
- Use the scan tool in order to retrieve history DTCs from all control modules.
- Clear all history DTCs.
Chassis Control Module Programming and Setup
Note. DO NOT program a control module unless directed to by a service procedure or a service bulletin. If the control module is not properly configured with the correct calibration software, the control module will not control all of the vehicle features properly. Ensure the programming tool is equipped with the latest software and is securely connected to the data link connector. If there is an interruption during programming, programming failure or control module damage may occur. Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. When required install the EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12 V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply. DO NOT connect a battery charger. Turn OFF or disable systems that may put a load on the vehicles battery such as; interior lights, exterior lights (including daytime running lights), HVAC, radio, etc. During the programming procedure, follow the SPS prompts for the correct ignition switch position. Clear DTCs after programming is complete. Clearing powertrain DTCs will set the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) system status indicators to NO.

If the control module cannot be reprogrammed, replace the control module. If the control module can be reprogrammed. All OK. If the control module can be reprogrammed
- All OK.

Reprogram Control Module
To reprogram an existing TCM, perform the following procedure
- Access the Service Programming System (SPS) and follow the on-screen instructions.
- On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select Transmission Control Module - Programming and follow the on-screen instructions.
- At the end of programming, choose the "Clear All DTCs" function on the SPS screen.
- With a scan tool, perform the Reset Transmission Adapts. Refer to «Reset Transmission Adapts»(ref-610107-S40814069932014042100000) .
In the event of an interrupted or unsuccessful programming event, perform the following
- Ignition ON. Ensure the control module, DLC and programming tool connections are secure and the SPS software is up to date.
- Verify the control module can be reprogrammed. If the control module cannot be reprogrammed Ignition OFF for one minute, ignition ON. Verify the control module can be reprogrammed. If the control module cannot be reprogrammed, replace the control module. If the control module can be reprogrammed. All OK. If the control module can be reprogrammed
- All OK.
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the repair.

Digital Radio Receiver Programming and Setup
Each of the following service procedures requires programming or setup procedures to be performed on the digital radio receiver.
XM™ Activation
| IMPORTANT | After replacement of an XM™ receiver, call XM™ radio to deactivate the receiver that has been removed from the vehicle. The vehicle must be parked in view of a satellite within 24 hours after an activation call. |
- Radio ON, tune to the XM™ channel 0 and record the radio ID. The radio ID will be required for activation of the new receiver. The customer's name, address and phone number may also be needed for account verification.
- Call XM™ radio to deactivate the faulty receiver and activate the new receiver. US: 1-800-556-3600 Canada: 1-877-438-9677
- Park the vehicle outside in an area with an unobstructed view of the southern sky.
- Leave the vehicle outside with the ignition switch in the ACC position and the radio ON, tune to the XM™ channel 1 for 30 minutes to activate XM™ service.
- Once activated, the radio will receive the remaining XM™ channels.
Door Lock and Side Window Switch Programming and Setup
After replacing the Door Lock/Window Switch - Driver or the Door Lock/Window Switch - Passenger, perform the programming procedure. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
Electronic Brake Control Module Programming and Setup
The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.
Electronic Brake Control Module Reprogramming
If the EBCM needs to be reprogrammed, the following procedures must be performed
- Connect a scan tool to the vehicle and access SPS. Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-610060-S12557634442014042100000)
- Perform the SPS function Electronic Brake Control Module - Programming and follow the on-screen instructions.
- 3. Clear DTCs after completing the programming procedure.
K20 Engine Control Module: Programming and Setup

To reprogram an existing K20 Engine Control Module, perform the following procedure
- Install EL-49642 SPS programming support tool.
- Access the Service Programming System (SPS) and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Clear DTCs after completing the Programming procedure.
- Perform the SPS function Engine Control Module - Configuration & Setup and follow the on-screen instructions, if available. NOTE: If vehicle fails to start during Configuration and Setup, perform the SPS Function Immobilizer Learn and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Clear DTCs after completing the Configuration & Setup procedure.
In the event of an interrupted or unsuccessful programming event, perform the following
- Ignition ON. Ensure the control module, DLC and programming tool connections are secure and the SPS software is up to date.
- Verify the control module can be reprogrammed. If the control module cannot be reprogrammed Ignition OFF for one minute, ignition ON. Verify the control module can be reprogrammed. If the control module cannot be reprogrammed, replace the K20 Engine Control Module. If the control module can be reprogrammed
- All OK.
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the repair.

Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module Programming and Setup
Note. DO NOT program a control module unless directed to by a service procedure or a service bulletin. Reprogram Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module
Do not reprogram the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module, unless directed by a service procedure or a service bulletin.
- Connect a scan tool to the vehicle and access SPS. Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-610060-S12557634442014042100000)
- Perform the SPS function K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module Programming and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Clear DTCs after completing the programming procedure.
In the event of an interrupted or unsuccessful programming event, perform the following steps
- Ignition ON. Ensure the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module, DLC and programming tool connections are secure and the SPS software is up to date.
- Verify the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module can be reprogrammed. If the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module cannot be reprogrammed Ignition OFF for one minute, ignition ON. Verify the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module can be reprogrammed. If the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module cannot be reprogrammed, replace the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module. If the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Module can be reprogrammed. All OK. If the K41 Front and Rear Parking Assist Control Modulecan be reprogrammed
- All OK.

Front View Camera Module Programming and Setup

- Verify the frontview camera module can be reprogrammed. If the frontview camera module cannot be reprogrammed Ignition OFF for one minute, ignition ON. Verify the frontview camera module can be reprogrammed. If the frontview camera module cannot be reprogrammed, replace the frontview camera module. If the frontview camera module can be reprogrammed. All OK. If the frontview camera module can be reprogrammed
- All OK.

HVAC System Control Module Programming and Setup
Each of the following service procedures may require programming or setup procedures to be performed on the HVAC control module or HVAC actuators.
HVAC Control Module Reprogramming
Do not reprogram the HVAC control module, unless directed by a service procedure or a service bulletin.
Reprogram HVAC Control Module-Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
Airbag Vehicle Rollover Sensor Programming and Setup
- Key ON, Engine OFF. With the scan tool perform the Setup New ROS procedure for the inflatable restraint vehicle rollover sensor (ROS).
- Key OFF then ON again. Clear all codes and verify no current faults are present.
Instrument Cluster Programming and Setup
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) must be setup using the service programming system (SPS). Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) . The odometer information will be preprogrammed to the replacement instrument panel cluster.
Liftgate Control Module Programming and Setup
The following service procedures require either a programming or a setup event performed for a complete repair.
Liftgate Control Module Reprogramming
Do not reprogram the liftgate control module unless directed by a service procedure or a service bulletin.
- Connect a scan tool to the vehicle and access SPS. Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-610060-S12557634442014042100000) .
- Perform the SPS function Liftgate Control Module - Programming and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Clear DTCs after completing the programming procedure.
Memory Seat Control Module Programming and Setup
If the memory seat module is replaced or if the module needs to be reprogrammed, refer to Service Programming System (SPS) .
Radio Programming and Setup
Note. DO NOT program a control module unless directed to by a service procedure or a service bulletin. If the ECU is not properly configured with the correct calibration software, the ECU will not control all of the vehicle features properly. Ensure the programming tool is equipped with the latest software and is securely connected to the data link connector. If there is an interruption during programming, programming failure or ECU damage may occur. Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. Install the EL-49642 SPS programming support tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12 V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply. DO NOT connect a battery charger. Turn OFF or disable systems that may put a load on the vehicles battery such as; interior lights, exterior lights (including daytime running lights), HVAC, radio, etc. During the programming procedure, follow the SPS prompts for the correct ignition switch position. Clear DTCs after programming is complete. Clearing powertrain DTCs will set the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) system status indicators to NO.

Rear Differential Clutch Control Module Programming and Setup (Lambda 14)
If the Rear Differential Clutch Control Module is replaced, the following procedures must be performed
- Rear Differential Clutch Control Module Programming-Refer to «Service Programming System (SPS)»(ref-610060-S12557634442014042100000) .
- Install a scan tool.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
- Select Special Functions, Rear Drive System, CCM RDS Matching ID, follow instruction on the GDS2. The CCM RDS Matching ID number can be found on the CCM harness connector.
- Cycle the ignition OFF, then start the engine and allow to run for 1 minute. Verify the rear differential system is functioning properly.
- After the calibration procedure, clear all DTC and preform the «Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle»(ref-610038-S36414632882014042100000) .
Rearview Camera Image Display Module Programming and Setup
This device requires no programming or setup.
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Programming and Setup
| IMPORTANT | When replacing the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR), the tire pressure monitoring (TPM) information can be learned to the new RCDLR in one of two ways. These two methods are reflected in the selections below. Only choose one of the methods; it is not required to do both methods when replacing the RCDLR. If you choose to perform the Copy and Restore TPM Information procedure, Step 1 must be performed BEFORE removing the old RCDLR. This procedure requires that specific TPM information be extracted from the old RCDLR prior to its removal. |

Review the information below to ensure proper programming protocol.
Note. DO NOT program a control module unless you are directed by a service procedure or you are directed by a General Motors service bulletin. Programming a control module at any other time will not permanently correct a customers concern. It is essential that the TIS terminal, MDI, and/or Scan Tool, is equipped with the latest software before performing service programming. Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. When required, install the EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply. DO NOT connect a battery charger. Some modules will require additional programming/setup events to be performed before or after programming. Some vehicles may require the use of a CANDi or MDI module for programming. Review the appropriate service information for these procedures. DTCs may set during programming. Clear DTCs after programming is complete. Clearing powertrain DTCs will set the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) system status indicators to NO.
Ensure the following conditions are met before programming a control module
- Vehicle system voltage: There is not a charging system concern. All charging system concerns must be repaired before programming a control module. Battery voltage is greater than 12 volts but less than 16 volts. The battery must be fully charged before programming the control module. Turn OFF or disable any system that may put a load on the vehicles battery, such as the following components: Interior lights Exterior lights including daytime running lights (DRL)-Applying the parking brake, on most vehicles, disables the DRL system Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems Engine cooling fans Radio, etc.
- The ignition switch must be in the proper position. SPS prompts you to turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. DO NOT change the position of the ignition switch during the programming procedure, unless instructed to do so.
- Make certain all tool connections are secure, including the following components and circuits: Scan Tool The RS-232 communication cable port The connection at the data link connector (DLC) The voltage supply circuits MDI The USB, Ethernet or Wireless communication port The connection at the data link connector (DLC)
- DO NOT disturb the tool harnesses while programming. If an interruption occurs during the programming procedure, programming failure or control module damage may occur.
In the event of an interrupted or unsuccessful programming event, perform the following steps
- DO NOT turn the ignition OFF. Ensure that all control module and DLC connections are secure and the TIS terminal operating software is up to date.
- Attempt to reprogram the control module.
- If the control module can still not be programmed, turn the ignition OFF for at least one minute.
- Turn the ignition ON and attempt to reprogram the control module. The control module should program. If the control module still cannot be programmed, replace the control module.
After successfully programming the control module, ensure that all post programming procedures are performed; refer to Control Module References for the appropriate control module Programming and Setup document for any required procedures.
Side Object Sensor Programming and Setup
Note. DO NOT program a control module unless directed to by a service procedure or a service bulletin. If the ECU is not properly configured with the correct calibration software, the ECU will not control all of the vehicle features properly. Ensure the programming tool is equipped with the latest software and is securely connected to the data link connector. If there is an interruption during programming, programming failure or ECU damage may occur. Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. Install the EL-49642 SPS Programming Support Tool to maintain system voltage. If not available, connect a fully charged 12 V jumper or booster pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply. DO NOT connect a battery charger. Turn OFF or disable systems that may put a load on the vehicles battery such as; interior lights, exterior lights (including daytime running lights), HVAC, radio, etc. During the programming procedure, follow the SPS prompts for the correct ignition switch position. Clear DTCs after programming is complete. Clearing powertrain DTCs will set the Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) system status indicators to NO.
In the event of an interrupted or unsuccessful programming event, perform the following steps
- DO NOT turn the ignition OFF. Ensure that all ECU, DLC and programming tool connections are secure and the TIS terminal operating software is up to date.
- Attempt to reprogram the ECU.
- If the ECU can still not be programmed, turn the ignition OFF for at least one minute.
- Turn the ignition ON and attempt to reprogram the ECU. The ECU should program. If the ECU still cannot be programmed, replace the ECU.
Sunroof Control Module Programming and Setup
When replacing the sunroof motor/control module, the sunroof motor/actuator initialization/teach procedure must be followed. Refer to Sunroof Motor/Actuator Initialization/Teach Process (New Motor) , Sunroof Motor/Actuator Initialization/Teach Process (New Roller Sunshade) , Sunroof Motor/Actuator Initialization/Teach Process (Existing Motor) and Sunroof Motor/Actuator Initialization/Teach Process (Existing Roller Sunshade) before starting the repair procedure.
Theft Deterrent Module Programming and Setup
- Connect a scan tool to the vehicle in the Pass-thru arrangement.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
- Ensure that all power consuming devices are turned OFF on the vehicle.
- On the Techline Terminal, select Service Programming System and follow the Techline Terminal on-screen instructions. Go to TDM Theft Deterrent Module from the controller list and select the appropriate on-screen calibration options.
- After the programming has completed, turn the ignition OFF for 30 seconds.
- Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
- On the Techline Terminal, go to V.T.D. Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn from the controller list and select Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn, ECM or PK3 Replaced. Follow the on-screen instructions.
- At this point the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
- Observe the scan tool, after approximately 12 minutes the scan tool will display "Programming Successful, Turn OFF Ignition". The vehicle is now ready to relearn the key information and/or the passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. NOTE: The Techline Terminal will initially display 12 Minutes. The first 2 minutes allow the scan tool to initialize the appropriate control module. The remaining 10 minutes is the relearn timer. On some vehicles the security indicator may be illuminated for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
- Turn OFF the ignition and wait 2 minutes.
- With a master vehicle key, turn the ignition to the RUN position for 15 seconds, then start the vehicle. The TDM and ECM have now relearned the pre-release password and the challenge/response data.
- With a scan tool, clear any DTCs.
