Wheel Alignment 5 illustrations ~491 words

PRE-ALIGNMENT CHECKS

Note. Prior to performing wheel alignment, perform preliminary visual and mechanical inspection of wheels, tires and suspension components. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT THEORY/OPERATION article in the ALIGNMENT section.

CAMBER ADJUSTMENT

Note. To prevent incorrect camber reading, bounce vehicle several times before inspecting.

Metro, Storm, Storm GSi & Tracker

Front and rear camber cannot be adjusted. If camber is not within specification, check for damaged, loose, bent, dented or worn suspension parts. See ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS .

Prizm & Prizm GSi

  1. Rear camber cannot be adjusted. If camber is not within specification, check for damaged, loose, bent, dented or worn suspension parts. See «ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/geo/storm/i-1990-1993/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures). To adjust front camber, loosen upper and lower strut-to-knuckle nuts and bolts.
  2. Rotate adjusting bolt to adjust camber. (Scheme 1) Adjust camber to specification. See «ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/geo/storm/i-1990-1993/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures). Tighten upper and lower strut-to-knuckle nuts and bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(/geo/storm/i-1990-1993/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures).

CASTER ADJUSTMENT

Front and rear caster cannot be adjusted. If caster is not within specification, check for damaged, loose, bent, dented or worn suspension parts. See ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS .

Metro

Adjust front wheel toe-in by changing tie rod length. Loosen right and left tie rod end lock nuts. Turn right and left tie rods same amount to adjust toe-in to specification. See ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS. Right and left tie rod length "A" should be same. (Scheme 2) Tighten tie rod end nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.

Scheme 2: Metro

Prism, Prism GSi, Storm, Storm GSi & Tracker

  1. Adjust front wheel toe-in by changing tie rod length. Loosen both clamps (small end), and slide from boot (except Tracker). Loosen right and left tie rod end lock nuts.
  2. Turn right and left tie rods same amount to adjust toe-in to specification. See «ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/geo/storm/i-1990-1993/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures) . Tighten tie rod end nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(/geo/storm/i-1990-1993/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures) .
  1. Adjust rear wheel toe-in by rotating control rod inside bolt. (Scheme 3) Loosen right and left control rod inside nuts. Turn right and left control rod inside bolts same amount to align toe-in to specification. See «ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/geo/storm/i-1990-1993/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures).
  2. After adjustment, tighten right and left control rod inside nuts to specification while holding control rod inside bolts. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(/geo/storm/i-1990-1993/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures).

Scheme 3

Scheme 3

Adjust toe-in by rotating adjusting bolt on lower control arm. (Scheme 4) Loosen nut, and rotate adjusting bolt to adjust toe-in. See ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS. Tighten adjusting bolt nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.

Scheme 4

Scheme 4: Prizm & Prizm GSi

Storm & Storm GSi

Adjust toe-in by changing lateral link length. Loosen right and left lateral link lock nuts. (Scheme 5) Turn right and left lateral links evenly to set toe-in to specification. See ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS. Tighten lateral link lock nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
