DESCRIPTION
Metro models with manual transmission are equipped with either of 2 variations of the Nippondenso direct-drive starter. Starters are identified by VIN number (VIN J or 2). Nippondenso direct drive starters are a conventional 12-volt, 4-brush-type. Starter solenoid attached to drive housing. When starter is energized, the starter solenoid engages starter pinion drive to flywheel ring gear. The overrunning clutch-pinion drive mounts directly on armature shaft drive end.
