LUBRICANTS SPECIFICATION

Front Electronics Module (FEM) and Rear Electronics Module (REM)

The driver power window is controlled by the FEM. The passenger power window is controlled by the REM.

The master window control switch can control the driver and the passenger windows. The master window control switch is hardwired to the FEM. When the passenger window is activated on the master window control switch, the signal is sent to the passenger control switch from the master switch. This signal does not go through the FEM module. The door ajar switches are hardwired to the FEM. The FEM communicates through the SPC network to the REM for passenger door ajar signal.

Driver Window

The power driver window feature provides the operator with local, proportional control over the driver window.

During proportional control, a request will be generated for window motion as long as the master control window switch remains pressed. This window has the one-touch down feature.

Passenger Window

The passenger power window feature provides the operator with local, proportional control over the passenger window. During proportional control, a request will be generated for window motion as long as the master window control switch or passenger window control switch remains pressed.

Short Drop Driver and Passenger Windows

The short drop driver and passenger window feature determines when to carry out a driver or passenger window short drop command, in order to drop or close a single window or both windows when a door is ajar or the convertible top switch is activated. When the driver or passenger door is ajar, the appropriate window will drop. After the open door is closed, the window will then close. If the convertible top switch is activated, causing the windows to drop, both windows will close if the PRNDL is taken out of PARK or if one door becomes closed.

If the FEM/REM have been entered into the diagnostic mode while the windows are dropped, the windows will need to be manually raised by using the window control switches. Calibration of the short drop feature will not be affected.

One-Touch Down

The one-touch down feature provides the operator with local, one-touch down control over the driver window.

The window will be requested to move down to the fully open position after a single, momentary press of the master window control switch.

Heated Backlight

The heated backlight eliminates condensation on the rear window. The REM activates an external relay to power the grid on either the convertible top or removable hardtop. The command from the DATC heated backlight switch is sent through the SCP network link to the REM. The REM will then activate the heated backlight relays. The heated backlight will not function with the convertible top in the down position.

Delayed Accessory

The delayed accessory feature allows the power windows to function after the ignition is turned off until any door is opened. Then the REM receives the status from the FEM that the driver or passenger door is ajar, the REM will turn off the power to the master and passenger window control switches.

Delayed accessory operation allows the power windows and the radio to operate for up to 10 minutes after the ignition is turned to OFF. The delayed accessory function is controlled by the REM. When the ignition switch is turned from RUN to OFF, the REM will begin the timing sequence. If a door is opened or the ignition switch is activated to another position, the REM will cancel the delayed accessory operation.

Door Window Motor Initialization

Note. Short drop window calibration can be lost on one window and still functioning on the other window. Recalibration can be completed by using either of the window control switches.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Lower the window completely and hold the window control switch in the down position for two seconds.
  3. Immediately after releasing the window control switch from the down position, raise the window completely and hold the switch in the up position for two seconds.

Note. Any breaks longer than 25 mm (1 inch) in one grid cannot be repaired. New back window glass must be installed. Breaks equal to or shorter than 25 mm (1 inch) the heated back window grid wire can be successfully repaired by using the following procedure.

  1. Obtain the following repair kit: Repair Kit Order Number 50-25-0584-0029
  2. The vehicle should be allowed to reach 16°C (60°F) or above.
  3. Clean the repair area with denatured alcohol.
  4. Place the grid line mask over the break aligning the cut-out slots on either side of the repair area.
  5. Apply the epoxy to the repair area.
  6. Remove the mask without disturbing the epoxy.
  7. Use the special tool to heat the repair area for 1 to 2 minutes at a distance of about 25-50 mm (1 --2 inches). This procedure should heat the repair area to approximately 149°C (300°F).
  8. The heated back window may be energized immediately after the repair. Optimum hardness and adhesion will occur after 24 hours. Do not disturb the repair area until that time.

  1. Clean the bus bar in the area to be repaired with steel wool (3/0 to 4/0 grade).
  2. Apply three coats of Rear Window Defroster Repair D8AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M4J58-A to the surface.
  3. Tin the bus bar repair area with solder.
  4. Preheat the rear window glass in the area to be repaired using the special tool and solder the terminal to the bus bar.
  5. Apply Rear Window Defroster Repair D8AZ-19562-AA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESBM4J58- A to the repair area as needed.

  1. Remove the door trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-204609) .
  2. Remove the water shield.
  3. Connect the window control switch electrical connector.
  4. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING & CABLES»(ref-204581) .
  5. Remove the convertible top weatherstrip.
  6. Position the door window glass to the full up position.
  7. Loosen the two door window regulator clamp bolts.
  8. Install a 13 mm (0.52 in) wedge between the top of the glass and the convertible top frame.
  9. Tighten the two door window regulator clamp bolts.
  10. Remove the 13 mm (0.52 in) wedge.
  11. Install the convertible top weatherstrip.
  12. Disconnect the window control switch electrical connector.
  13. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  14. Install the water shield.
  15. Install the door trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-204609) .
  16. Operate the door window glass and check for binding and correct alignment.

  1. Remove the cowl vent screen. For additional information, refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-204605) .
  2. Remove the center windshield garnish moulding.
  3. Remove the LH and RH windshield side garnish mouldings. Position the upper windshield side garnish moulding aside.
  4. Clean the interior and exterior windshield glass surface with non-alcohol based glass cleaner.
  5. Cut the urethane adhesive applicator tip to specification.
  6. Apply urethane adhesive over top of the existing urethane adhesive. Apply the urethane to the top and sides of the windshield from the interior of the vehicle. Apply the urethane to the bottom of the windshield from the exterior of the vehicle.
  7. After the urethane has cured, check the windshield seal for air or water leaks through the urethane bead and add urethane adhesive as necessary.
  8. Install the LH and RH windshield side garnish mouldings.
  9. Install the center windshield garnish moulding.
  10. Install the cowl vent screen. For additional information, refer to «FRONT END BODY PANELS»(ref-204605) .
