Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Mechanical Electrical Door ajar switches Key-in-ignition switch Headlamp switch Central junction box (CJB) fuses: 204 (5A) 213 (5A) 217 (5A) 219 (20A) 220 (10A) Battery junction box (BJB) fuses: 429 (20A) Circuitry Instrument cluster
- If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition switch position.
- If the diagnostic tool does not power up, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
- Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-204591) . NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for instrument cluster (IC), refer to «INSTRUMENT CLUSTER»(ref-204577) . NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for restraint control module (RCM), refer to «AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS»(ref-150664) . SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the IC and RCM.
- If the DTCs retrieved from the RCM are related to the concern, refer to «AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS»(ref-150664) . If the DTCs retrieved from the IC are related to the concern, go to the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
