COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING
Note. Less than 80 percent of coolant capacity can be recovered with engine in vehicle. Dirty, rusty or contaminated coolant should be drained and filled with NEW coolant.
Release pressure in cooling system by slowly turning pressure relief cap 1/2 turn counterclockwise or radiator cap counterclockwise to first stop. When pressure is released, remove pressure relief cap/radiator cap. Place a suitable container below radiator petcock. If equipped, disconnect coolant return hose at oil cooler. Drain engine coolant. Close radiator petcock.
Inertia Fuel Shutoff Switch Reset Procedure
| WARNING | If you see or smell gasoline at any time other than during fueling, DO NOT reset Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch. |
Note. With IFS in CLOSED position, reset button can be depressed an additional 1/16" against the spring.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for fuel leaks in engine compartment. If no leak is present, reset IFS switch by pushing reset button on top of switch. Turn ignition switch to ON position or START position for a few seconds, then to OFF position again. Again, check for leaking fuel.
FUEL TANK DRAINING
Note. It will be necessary to adapt Fuel Line Draining Connector (XW4Z-9B376-AA) to Fuel Storage Tanker hose to perform draining procedure.
- Lower windows and remove hard top or lower convertible top. Disconnect negative battery cable. Relieve fuel pressure. See «FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-142371-S02601930332002073100000). To remove rear trim panel, pull outward on inboard edge to release retainers and remove speaker grille, then pull outward to release retaining clips and remove rear trim panel. (Scheme 19)
- Remove rear carpeting and any insulation padding covering fuel module access cover. (Scheme 20) Remove Fuel Pump Delivery Module (FPDM) and fuel transfer pump module access covers. (Scheme 21)
- Remove Black connector elbows from transfer pump module flange by pressing release tabs on module fitting, turning fuel line slightly and pulling Black fuel line connector elbows straight upward. (Scheme 22) Connect fuel line draining connector to fuel storage tanker hose and connect other end of hose to outlet fitting on fuel transfer pump module flange. Siphon fuel until tank side is empty.
- Remove Black connector elbow from fuel tank crossover line from FPDM flange. (Scheme 23) Connect fuel line draining connector to fuel storage tanker hose and connect other end of hose to FPDM flange to drain fuel. If directed here for fuel pump removal, return to step 2 under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION under FUEL PUMP MODULE.
