Wheel Alignment 1 illustration ~440 words

Rear Wheel Drive Models (Capri, Continental, Cougar, LTD, Marquis, Mustang, Thunderbird)

Front of vehicle may be lifted by positioning jack under center of number 2 crossmember. The front, as well as either side of rear end, may be lifted by positioning floor jack under rocker flange at contact points used for jack supplied with vehicle. To lift both sides of rear at once, position floor jack under differential housing. DO NOT make contact with differential housing cover.

On all except LTD and Marquis, position jacks under rear axle housing between suspension arm brackets and differential housing. DO NOT place jacks under suspension arm brackets.

Note. On vehicles with air suspension, disconnect electrical power by removing negative battery cable or shutting off air suspension power switch located in trunk on left front side of inner panel.

Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VI & Town Car

There are several specific recommended points of contact that may be used for floor or roll jack. Either front side of vehicle may be raised by jack contact at lower arm strut connection, on front crossmember, or on side rail to which stabilizer is connected.

Front of vehicle may be raised by positioning jack under center of No. 2 crossmember. Care must be taken not to contact steering linkage or to compress stabilizer link insulators. Position jacks under rear axle housing between suspension arm brackets and differential housing. DO NOT place jacks under suspension arm brackets.

BUMPER JACK

A bumper type lift (jack) may be used on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VI and Town Car models only. DO NOT raise other vehicles by the bumper at any time.

Ensure that hoist manufacturer's instructions are followed. DO NOT allow hoist or adapters to contact suspension, exhaust or steering components. Frame contact must be made and adapters used to lift vehicle in accordance with Frame Contact Chart and Fig. (Scheme 3).

CONTACT HOIST

On frame contact hoists, adapters are necessary to lift vehicle. The adapters must be placed at 4 contact points. Position adapters, so they are centered on contact area. All 4 contact points must contact adapters. See Ford Frame Contact Chart and Fig. (Scheme 3).

Note. DO NOT position hoist pads under No. 3 crossmember. Ensure lifting pad clears catalytic converter bracket on passenger side.

If twin post hoist is used, place front adaptors under center of lower suspension arms. On Thunderbird and Cougar, place rear adapters under axle housing (inboard of suspension arm brackets).
