Power Window System: Diagnosis Ford Taurus IV

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Verify customer concern by operating windows to duplicate condition. Ensure battery is fully charged. Ensure windows are properly aligned. Check for blown fuses, faulty relays, open or shorted power supply circuit, loose or corroded connectors, and poor ground connections. Check for faulty Generic Electronic Module (GEM), faulty motor, binding tracks or regulator mechanism. Check master power window control switch. See MASTER POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS. If problem is found, repair as necessary. If problem is not found, perform self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM .

SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), DLC is located below instrument panel. (Scheme 1) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, perform data link diagnostics test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - SABLE & TAURUS article. If WDS or NGS tester responds with CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module communications concern. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - SABLE & TAURUS article. If WDS or NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Generic Electronic Module (GEM), perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under SYSTEM TESTS.

If WDS or NGS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Erase continuous DTCs. Using WDS or NGS tester, perform GEM self-test. Perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE DTC INDEX table. Codes listed in this table are only for testing covered in this article. For complete DTC listing, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - SABLE & TAURUS article. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.

GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE DTC INDEX

TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE

Note. After making any repair, repeat Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test using WDS or NGS tester.

Note. Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove fuse No. 16 (15-amp) from Central Junction Box (CJB), located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and input terminal of CJB fuse No. 16. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair power supply circuit to CJB. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Install fuse No. 16 (15-amp) in CJB connector. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) 12-pin harness connector C201a, located behind Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and GEM harness connector C201a terminal No. 4 (White/Red wire). (Scheme 2) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit or short circuit to ground in White/Red wire between CJB and GEM. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C201a terminal No. 6 (Black/Light Green wire). (Scheme 2) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair module communication concern. See appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATION NETWORK - SABLE & TAURUS article. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Black/Light Blue wire between GEM and ground point located at left front of engine compartment. see scheme 1 After repair, test system for normal operation.

TEST B: ONE POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE (DRIVER'S WINDOW)

Note. If DTCs B1302, B1304, or B1359 are present, repair these codes before proceeding. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE DTC INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. For complete DTC listing, see MODULE COMMUNICATION NETWORK - SABLE & TAURUS article.

Note. After making any repair, repeat Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test using WDS or NGS tester.

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below instrument panel. (Scheme 1) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If DTC B1398 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1408 is retrieved, go to step 5. If no DTCs are present, go to step 4.
  2. Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester access GEM active command ONE TOUCH DOWN and ACCY DELAY. Trigger ACCY RLY to ON. Cycle driver's window up and down. If driver's window does not operate correctly, go to next step. If driver's window operates correctly, go to step 14.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect One-Touch Down (OTD) relay from Central Junction Box (CJB) connector C2051, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Disconnect GEM harness connector C201d. (Scheme 4) GEM connector is located behind Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Measure resistance between ground and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 1. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 14. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Remove driver's door trim panel. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-63217-S28601923362003051400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect driver's door power window motor 2-pin harness connector C524, located behind door trim panel. see scheme 1 While actuating master power window control switch to operate driver's window to down position, measure voltage between ground and driver's door power window motor harness connector C524 terminal No. 1 (Orange/White wire). (Scheme 5) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 6.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure voltage between ground and driver's door power window motor harness connector C524 terminal No. 2 (White/Black wire). (Scheme 5) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If no voltage exists, go to next step. If any voltage exists, repair short circuit to power in White/Black wire between master power window control switch and driver's door power window motor. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  6. While actuating master power window control switch to operate driver's window to up position, measure voltage between ground and driver's door power window motor harness connector C524terminal No. 2 (White/Black wire). (Scheme 5) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace driver's power window motor. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR»(ref-63217-S02979106962001012400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove driver's door master power window control switch. See «POWER WINDOW SWITCH»(ref-63217-S32797877982001012400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform master power window control switch component test. See «MASTER POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-63217-S32373907032001012400000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is faulty, replace master power window control switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  8. Disconnect CJB 36-pin harness connector C270c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between ground and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 6 (Orange/White wire) and No. 20 (White/Black wire). (Scheme 6) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short circuit to ground in White/Black wire and/or Orange/White wire between driver's power window motor and CJB. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  9. Measure resistance between driver's power window motor harness connector C524 terminal No. 2 and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 20 (White/Black wire). Also measure resistance between CJB connector C270c terminal No. 6 and power window motor harness connector C524 terminal No. 1 (Orange/White wire). (Scheme 5)and (Scheme 6). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in White/Black wire and/or Orange/White wire between power window motor and CJB. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  10. Measure resistancebetween master power window control switch 8-pin harness connector C504a terminal No. 6 and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 20 (White/Black wire). Also measure resistance between master power window control switch harness connector C504a terminal No. 7 and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 5 (Tan/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 6)and (Scheme 7). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in White/Black wire and/or Tan/Light Blue wire between master power window control switch and CJB. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  11. Measure resistance between One-Touch Down (OTD) relay connector C2051 terminal No. 3 and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 6. Also measure resistance between OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 4 and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 5. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 6). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair or replace CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  12. Measure resistance between ground and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 20 (CJB side). Also measure resistance between ground and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 5 (CJB side). (Scheme 6) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short circuit in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  13. Measure resistance between GEM harness connector C201d terminal No. 17 and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 20 (components side). Also measure resistance between GEM harness connector C201d terminal No. 10 and CJB connector C270c terminal No. 5 (components side). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 6). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  14. Check all GEM harness connectors terminals for corroded or pushed-out pins. If Connector or terminals are faulty, repair or replace as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, reconnect all GEM harness connectors. Ensure all other system connectors are properly seated. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, install a new GEM. See «GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE»(ref-63217-S32103496942003051500000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating properly. Clear DTCs and check system for normal operation.

TEST C: ONE-TOUCH DOWN INOPERATIVE

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below instrument panel. (Scheme 1) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If no DTC is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1398 is retrieved, go to step 7. If DTC B1400 is retrieved, go to step 3. If DTC B1405 is retrieved, go to step 9.
  2. Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester monitor GEM PID D_PWRLY while pressing master power window control switch. If PID D_PWRLY indicates off -B-, go to next step. If GEM PID D_PWRLY does not indicate off -B-, go to step 7.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect One-Touch Down (OTD) relay from connector C2051 located on Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 1. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If any voltage exists, go to next step. If no voltage exists, go to step 5.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201d. (Scheme 4) GEM connector is located in Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 1. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in CJB as necessary. If no voltage exists, go to step 17. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect delayed accessory relay from connector C2050 located on CJB. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 2. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If any voltage exists, go to next step. If no voltage exists, go to step 7.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect CJB 36-pin harness connector C270c located on CJB. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 2. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in CJB as necessary. If no voltage exists, repair open circuit in Light Blue/Black wire between CJB and master power window control switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect delayed accessory relay back on CJB. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, select GEM active command ONE TOUCH WINDOW DOWN & ACC DELAY. Trigger ACCY RLY to ON position. Trigger ONE TOUCH to ON position. If window does not cycle down, go to next step. If window cycles down, go to step 17.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect One-Touch Down (OTD) relay from connector C2051 located on CJB. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select GEM active command ONE TOUCH WINDOW DOWN & ACCY DELAY. Trigger ACCY RLY to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 2 and 5. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  9. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove driver's door trim panel. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-63217-S28601923362003051400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.Disconnect master power window control switch harness connector C504a, located behind driver's door panel. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and master power window control switch harness connector C504a terminal No. 8 (Gray/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 7) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If any voltage exists, go to next step. If no voltage exists, go to step 11.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201c, located behind Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and master power window control switch harness connector C504a terminal No. 8 (Gray/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 8) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If any voltage exists, repair short circuit to power in Gray/Light Blue wire between master power window control switch and GEM. If no voltage exists, go to step 17. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  11. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure master power window control switch harness connectors C504a and C504b are disconnected. Perform master power window control switch component test. See «MASTER POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-63217-S32373907032001012400000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is faulty, replace master power window control switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  12. Measure resistance between ground and master power window control switch harness connector C504a terminal No. 8 (Gray/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 7) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 14.
  13. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201c. (Scheme 8) GEM connector is located behind Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Measure resistance between groundand master power window control switch harness connector C504a terminal No. 8 (Gray/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 7) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 17. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short circuit to ground in Gray/Light Blue wire between master power window control switch and GEM. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  14. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201c, located behind Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Measure resistance between master power window control switch harness connector C504a terminal No. 8 and GEM harness connector C201c terminal No. 15 (Gray/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 7)and (Scheme 8). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Gray/Light Blue wire between GEM and master power window control switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  15. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201d, located in Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Disconnect OTD relay from connector C2051 located on CJB. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between GEM harness connector C201d terminal No. 12 and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 1. (Scheme 3)and (Scheme 4). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  16. Disconnect CJB connector C270c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Measure resistance between CJB connector C270c terminal No. 6 and GEM harness connector C201d terminal No. 13. Also measure resistance between CJB connector C270c terminal No. 6 and GEM harness connector C201d terminal No. 24. (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 6). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  17. Check all GEM harness connectors terminals for corroded or pushed-out pins. If Connector or terminals are faulty, repair or replace as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, reconnect all GEM harness connectors. Ensure all other system connectors are properly seated. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern still present, install a new GEM. See «GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE»(ref-63217-S32103496942003051500000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating properly. Clear DTCs and check system for normal operation.

TEST D: DELAYED ACCESSORY DOES NOT TURN OFF

Note. After making any repair, repeat Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test using WDS or NGS tester.

Note. Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below instrument panel. (Scheme 1) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If no DTC is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1302 is retrieved, go to step 3.
  2. Ensure ignition switch is on RUN position. Disconnect delayed accessory relay from connector C2050 located on Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 If no delayed accessory features operate, go to next step. If any delayed accessory features operate, go to step 5.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Perform delayed accessory relay component test. See «RELAYS»(ref-63217-S25595826982001012400000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is faulty, replace relay. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201d. (Scheme 4) GEM connector is located in Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and delayed accessory relay connector C2050 terminal No. 85. (Scheme 9) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 6. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short circuit to ground in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect CJB connector C270c, located behind left side of instrument panel. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and CJB harness connector C270c terminal No. 17 (Light Blue/Black wire). (Scheme 6) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If any voltage exists, repair short circuit to power in Light Blue/Black wire between master power window control switch and CJB. If no voltage exists, repair open circuit in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check all GEM harness connectors terminals for corroded or pushed-out pins. If connector or terminals are faulty, repair or replace as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, reconnect all GEM harness connectors. Ensure all other system connectors are properly seated. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern still present, install a new GEM. See «GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE»(ref-63217-S32103496942003051500000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating properly. Clear DTCs and check system for normal operation.

TEST E: DELAYED ACCESSORY INOPERATIVE

Note. If DTCs B1314 or B1315 are present, repair these codes before proceeding. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE DTC INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.

Note. After making any repair, repeat Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test using WDS or NGS tester.

Note. Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below instrument panel. (Scheme 1) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. If no DTC is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1302 or 1304 is retrieved, go to step 4.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove fuse No. 10 (30-amp) from Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and input side of fuse No. 10. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair power supply to CJB. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Install fuse No. 10 back in CJB. see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using WDS or NGS tester, select GEM active command ONE TOUCH WINDOW & ACCY DELAY. Trigger ACCY RLY to ON position. Operate power windows. If power windows do not operate, go to next step. If power windows operate, go to step 9.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove delayed accessory relay from connector C2050 located on CJB. see scheme 1 Perform delayed accessory relay component test. See «RELAYS»(ref-63217-S25595826982001012400000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is faulty, replace delayed accessory relay. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and delayed accessory relay connector C2050 terminal No. 86. Also measure voltage between delayed accessory relay connector C2050 terminal No. 30. (Scheme 9) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltages are greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If any voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  6. Ensure ignition switch is on RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and delayed accessory relay connector C2050 terminal No. 85. (Scheme 9) If any voltage exists, go to next step. If no voltage exists, go to step 8.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201d. (Scheme 4) GEM connector is located in Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and delayed accessory relay connector C2050 terminal No. 85. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If no voltage exists, go to step 9. If any voltage exists, repair short circuit to power in CJB as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  8. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect One-Touch Down (OTD) relay from connector C2051 located on Central Junction Box (CJB). see scheme 1 Connect a fused jumper wirebetween delayed accessory relay connector C2050 terminals No. 30 and 87. (Scheme 9) Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and OTD relay connector C2051 terminal No. 2. (Scheme 3) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in CJB as necessary.After repair, test system for normal operation.
  9. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check all GEM harness connectors terminals for corroded or pushed-out pins. If connector or terminals are faulty, repair or replace as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, reconnect all GEM harness connectors. Ensure all other system connectors are properly seated. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern still present, install a new GEM. See «GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE»(ref-63217-S32103496942003051500000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating properly. Clear DTCs and check system for normal operation.

TEST F: ONE POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE (PASSENGER'S FRONT, LEFT OR RIGHT REAR)

Note. After making any repair, repeat Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test using WDS or NGS tester.

  1. Operate inoperative window from master power window control switch located on driver's door panel. If window operates, go to next step. If window does not operate, go to step 3.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove inoperative power window door trim panel. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-63217-S28601923362003051400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect inoperative power window control switch 6-pin harness connector. Ensure lock-out is disengaged on driver's door master power window control switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and inoperative power window control switch harness connector terminal No. 3 (Red/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 10) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace inoperative power window control switch. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open or short circuit in Red/Light Blue wire between master power window control switchand inoperative power window control switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove inoperative window door trim panel. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-63217-S28601923362003051400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect inoperative power window control switch 6-pin harness connector. While operating master power window control switch in the up and down directions, measure voltage between inoperative power window control switch harness connector terminals No. 1 and 6. (Scheme 10) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage does not exist in either direction, go to next step. If voltage exists in both directions, go to step 5.
  4. Perform master power window control switch component test. See «MASTER POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-63217-S32373907032001012400000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If master power window control switch is faulty, replace master power window control switch. If master power window control switch is okay, repair appropriate wiring between master power window control switch and inoperative power window control switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000).After repair, test system for normal operation.
  5. Disconnect inoperative power window motor 2-pin harness connector, located behind door trim panel. see scheme 1 Reconnect inoperative power window control switch. While operating appropriate power window control switch in the up and down directions, measure voltage between inoperative power window motor harness connector terminals No. 1 (Red/Yellow wire) and No. 2 (White/Light Blue wire). (Scheme 5) See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000). If voltage does not exist in either direction, go to next step. If voltage exists in both directions, replace inoperative power window motor. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR»(ref-63217-S02979106962001012400000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  6. Perform inoperative power window control switch component test. See «SINGLE POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-63217-S07060589962001012400000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is faulty, replace power window control switch. If switch is okay, repair open or short circuit in Red/Yellow and/or White/Light Blue wires between power window control switch and power window motor as necessary. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-63217-S42608298682001012400000).After repair, test system for normal operation.
