The generator is belt-driven by the engine accessory drive system. The generator on the 2.3L engine has an internal voltage regulator that is not replaced separately. The 2.3L engine generator and voltage regulator are repaired as an assembly. The 3.0L engine and 4.0L engine also have an internal voltage regulator but the voltage regulator can be replaced separately from the generator.
