DESCRIPTION
The C-II pump is a belt driven, ten slipper pump which has an integral fiberglass nylon reservoir. Spring loaded slippers within cam and rotor create the pumping action. A flow control relief valve maintains pump volume and pressure.
The pump design incorporates a pump pressure fitting which allows the pump pressure line to swivel; this is normal and does not indicate an under-tightened fitting. An identification tag attached to reservoir body indicates pump model. Use model code when requesting service parts, as slight differences in internal components do exist.

LUBRICATION & TESTING
For further information see POWER STEERING GENERAL SERVICING article in the STEERING section.
PUMP BELT TENSION
Note. Pump drive belt tension with Belt Tension cannot be checked using the thumb pressure or belt deflection methods. Adjustments must be made with a belt tension gauge.
Conventional "V" Belt System
Check the belt tension with Belt Tension Gauge (021-00019) or 021-00021 or equivalent). New belts with less than 15 minutes use should have a tension of 120-150 ft. lbs. (534-667 N.m). Belts that have been run for longer than 15 minutes, should have a tension of 110-130 ft. lbs. (401-533 N.m) for 3/8" "V" belt.
Pivot System Adjustment
Loosen pivot bolt and insert proper tool into square hole in pivot bracket. Lift up on pivot bracket to obtain proper belt tension and tighten pivot bolt to proper specification.
Fixed Pump System Adjustment (2.3L Engine)
Belt tension is adjusted by pivoting alternator. Do not try to pry against reservoir to obtain proper belt tension. Pressure on fiberglass reservoir may crack the reservoir.
Note. Do not pry against reservoir to tighten belt. Pressure on fiberglass may crack reservoir.
