Wiper/washer Systems 1 illustration ~258 words

Overview

The windshield wiper/washer system is activated by the wiper/washer switch. The following functions/features of the windshield wiper/washer system are

  1. Windshield wash
  2. Courtesy wipe
  3. Windshield wipers (low/high speed)
  4. Intermittent wipers
  5. Speed dependent wipers
  6. Wiper activated exterior lamps
  7. Rain sensitive wipers (if equipped)
  8. Rear window wipe
  9. Rear window wash
  10. Reverse gear wipe

There are 6 intermittent/sensitivity settings to choose from for the intermittent/rain sensitive wipers.

There are 2 settings to choose from for the rear window wiper operation.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

Refer to: Wipers and Washers - System Operation and Component Description .

DTCDescriptionFault Trigger Conditions
B1131:87Wiper Motor Module: Missing MessageSets when the BCM does not receive a reply from the driver side windshield wiper motor over the LIN. An internal failure of the driver side windshield wiper motor, a voltage supply or ground circuit can cause this concern.
B129A:86LIN Bus "D": Signal InvalidSets when the BCM receives invalid data from the driver side windshield wiper motor over the LIN.
B129A:88LIN Bus "D": Bus OffSets when the BCM receives no data from the driver side windshield wiper motor over the LIN.
B1D38:16Front Wiper Motor: Circuit Voltage Below ThresholdSets when the BCM receives a low voltage message from the driver side windshield wiper motor. The driver side windshield wiper motor sends the message when the voltage supply to either wiper motor is below 9.5 volts
B1D38:17Front Wiper Motor: Circuit Voltage Above ThresholdSets when the BCM receives a high voltage message from the driver side windshield wiper motor. The driver side windshield wiper motor sends the message when the voltage supply to either wiper motor is above 15 volts.
B1D38:19Front Wiper Motor: Circuit Current Above ThresholdSets when the BCM receives a high current message from the driver side windshield wiper motor. The driver side windshield wiper motor sends the message when either wiper motor is experiencing an excessive current draw and is in danger of overheating. When set, the wiper motor speed is decreased to allow the motor to cool down.

B1087:86LIN Bus "A": Signal InvalidSets when the BCM receives invalid data from the headlamp switch and SASM over the LIN.
B1087:88LIN Bus "A": Bus OffSets when the BCM receives no data from the headlamp switch and SASM over the LIN.
B112B:87Steering Wheel Module: Missing MessageSets when the BCM loses communication with the SASM over the LIN.

B10AD:83Rain Sensor: Value of Signal Protection Calculation IncorrectSets when the BCM receives corrupt data from the rain sensor.
U0231:00Lost Communication with Rain Sensing Module: No Sub Type InformationSets when the BCM determines a communication error has occurred on the LIN. This DTC may be caused by an open in the rain sensor power or ground circuit or an open in the LIN circuit between the rain sensor and the BCM.
