REMOVAL

Automatic transmission

  1. Remove the selector lever. For additional information, refer to «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS»(ref-357194) article.
  2. Remove the gearshift lever. For additional information, refer to «MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS»(ref-357196) article.
  3. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-357180) article.
  4. Remove the SRS module. Remove the 3 SRS module bolts. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  5. Disconnect the park brake lever electrical connector.
  6. Remove the 3 wire harness pin-type retainers.
  7. Remove the RH and LH door scuff plate trim panels. Lift upward on the RH and LH door scuff plate trim panels to release the door scuff plate trim panels retaining clips.
  8. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-357184) article.
  9. Remove the RH and LH lower cowl trim panels. Remove the 4 lower cowl trim panel retainers.
  10. Remove the hood release handle. Remove the hood release handle bolt.
  11. Rotate the steering wheel to gain access to the upper steering column shaft-to-lower steering column shaft bolt.
  12. Remove and discard the upper steering column shaft-to-lower steering column shaft bolt.
  13. Rotate the steering wheel until the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position. Remove the ignition key.
  14. Detach the upper steering column shaft from the lower steering column shaft.
  15. Remove the ground wire bolt and disconnect the 3 electrical connectors and the antenna cable located at the RH lower cowl.
  16. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector. Remove the wire harness pin-type retainer from the heater core and evaporator core housing.
  17. Lower the glove compartment door. Open the glove compartment door. Press the 2 glove compartment door retaining tabs and fully lower the glove compartment door.
  18. Disconnect the electrical connector located on the heater core and evaporator core housing.
  19. Close the glove compartment door. Lift upward on the glove compartment door. Press the 2 glove compartment door retaining tabs and fully close the glove compartment door.
  20. Disconnect the brake pedal position (BPP) sensor electrical connector.
  21. Disconnect the 5 smart junction box (SJB) electrical connectors and the LH bulkhead electrical connector.
  22. Remove the lower ground wire bolt and disconnect the 3 electrical connectors at the LH lower cowl.
  23. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt cover.
  24. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt.
  25. Remove the instrument panel upper cowl cover.
  26. Remove the instrument panel upper cowl bolt.
  27. Remove the LH and RH rear footwell duct connector pushpin retainers.
  28. Remove the 6 LH and RH instrument panel support bracket bolts.
  29. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel support brackets.
  30. Remove the rear footwell duct extension.
  31. Remove the 6 LH and RH instrument panel bolts.
  32. Remove the instrument panel.

INSTALLATION

All vehicles

  1. Install the instrument panel. Install, but do not tighten, the 6 instrument panel side bolts.
  2. Install the instrument panel upper cowl bolt. Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  3. Install the instrument panel upper cowl bolt cover.
  4. Install the LH instrument panel side bolt. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  5. Install the LH instrument panel side bolt cover.
  6. Tighten the 6 LH and RH instrument panel bolts. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  7. Install the rear footwell duct extension.
  8. Install the LH and RH instrument panel support brackets.
  9. Install the 6 LH and RH instrument panel support bracket bolts. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  10. Install the LH and RH rear footwell duct connector pushpin retainers.
  11. Install the lower ground wire and bolt at the LH lower cowl. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  12. Connect the 3 electrical connectors at the LH lower cowl.
  13. Connect the 5 SJB electrical connectors and the LH bulkhead electrical connector.
  14. Connect the BPP sensor electrical connector.
  15. Lower the glove compartment door. Open the glove compartment door. Press the 2 glove compartment door retaining tabs and fully lower the glove compartment door.
  16. Connect the electrical connector located on the heater core and evaporator core housing.
  17. Close the glove compartment door. Lift upward on the glove compartment door. Press the 2 glove compartment door retaining tabs and fully close the glove compartment door.
  18. Connect the blower motor electrical connector. Install the wire harness pin-type retainer onto the heater core and evaporator core housing.
  19. Install the ground wire and bolt located at the RH lower cowl. Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  20. Connect the 3 electrical connectors and the antenna cable located at the RH lower cowl.
  21. Install the upper steering column shaft onto the lower steering column shaft.
  22. Install a new upper steering column shaft-to-lower steering column shaft bolt. Install the ignition key and rotate the steering wheel to gain access to the upper steering column shaft-to-lower steering column shaft bolt. Tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
  23. Rotate the steering wheel until the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
  24. Install the hood release handle. Install the hood release handle bolt.
  25. Install the RH and LH lower cowl trim panels. Install the 4 lower cowl trim panel retainers.
  26. Install the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-357184) article.
  27. Install the RH and LH door scuff plate trim panels.
  28. Install the 3 wire harness pin-type retainers.
  29. Connect the park brake lever electrical connector.
  30. Install the SRS module. Install the 3 SRS module bolts. Connect the electrical connectors.
  31. Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-357180) article.
  32. Install the gearshift lever. For additional information, refer to «MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS»(ref-357196) article.
  33. Install the selector lever. For additional information, refer to «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS»(ref-357194) article.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

All vehicles

Note. The instrument panel center finish panel should be replaced when the audio control module (ACM) or the HVAC module has been removed from the instrument panel center finish panel more than once.

  1. Lift the park brake lever.
  2. Place the vehicle in NEUTRAL.
  3. Unscrew and remove the gearshift lever knob from the gearshift lever.
  4. Detach the park brake lever boot from the park brake lever.
  5. Lift upward and open the floor console storage compartment door.
  6. Remove the floor console finish panel. Lift upward on the rear of the floor console finish panel to release the floor console finish panel clips. If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector. Slide the park brake lever boot and the floor console finish panel over the park brake lever.
  7. Remove the 2 instrument panel-to-floor console bolts.
  8. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel. For additional information, refer to «Instrument Cluster Finish Panel»(ref-357192-S06437837602010030800000) .
  9. Remove the instrument panel center register. Pull the instrument panel center register toward the center of the vehicle to release the instrument panel center register retaining clips.
  10. Remove the 2 instrument panel center finish panel bolts located in the instrument panel center register opening.
  11. Remove the RH instrument panel finish panel. For additional information, refer to «Instrument Panel Finish Panel - RH»(ref-357192-S15236442862010030800000) .
  12. Remove the instrument panel center finish panel. Pull the instrument panel center finish panel outward to release the instrument panel center finish panel retaining clips. Disconnect the electrical connector. Disconnect the antenna.
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Lower the glove compartment door. Open the glove compartment door. Depress the 2 glove compartment stops and fully lower the glove compartment door.
  2. If equipped, disconnect the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) electrical connectors through the glove compartment door opening.
  3. Remove the RH instrument panel finish panel screw located on the back of the RH instrument panel finish panel through the glove compartment door opening.
  4. Remove the RH instrument panel finish panel. Pull the RH instrument panel finish panel outward to release the RH instrument panel finish panel retaining clips. Remove the RH instrument panel finish panel tether screw.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Lower the steering wheel.
  2. Remove the upper steering column shroud. Lift the upper steering column shroud upward to release the upper steering column shroud retaining clips.
  3. Remove the 2 instrument cluster finish panel screws.
  4. Remove the instrument cluster finish panel. Pull the instrument cluster finish panel toward the center of the vehicle.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

All vehicles

  1. Lift the park brake lever upward.
  2. Place the vehicle in NEUTRAL.
  3. Unscrew and remove the gearshift lever knob from the gearshift lever.
  4. Lift the floor console storage compartment door.
  5. Detach the park brake lever boot from the park brake lever.
  6. Remove the floor console finish panel. Lift upward on the rear of the floor console finish panel to release the floor console finish panel clips. If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector. Slide the park brake lever boot and the floor console finish panel over the park brake lever.
  7. Position the front seats forward.
  8. Remove the 2 floor console rear screws.
  9. Position the front seats rearward.
  10. Remove the 2 floor console middle covers and screws.
  11. Remove the 3 floor console pushpin retainers.
  12. Remove the 2 floor console front screws.
  13. Remove the floor console. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Note. Power point cover may differ depending on location.

  1. Open the power point cover.
  2. Install the special tool in one of the power point socket slots.
  3. Position the special tool so that it engages in the adjacent slot.
  4. Using the special tool, pull the power point socket out of the retainer.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  1. Connect the electrical connector.
  2. Slide the power point socket into the retainer.
