WARNINGDo not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNINGDo not carry personal electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or audio equipment of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNINGBefore working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNINGWhen handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

The fuel system consists of

  1. a mechanical returnless fuel system.
  2. a fuel rail.
  3. a multi-port fuel injection (MFI) system.
  4. a standard fuel tank.
  5. fuel, vapor and brake tubes in an integrated bundle assembly attached to the underside of the vehicle by retaining clips.
  6. a fuel filter.
  7. a 1/4 turn-type fuel tank filler cap.
  8. an inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch.
  9. a fuel pump (FP) module containing: an electric FP, which provides pressurized fuel to the fuel rail. a fuel level sender. a check valve, which maintains system pressure after the FP is shut off. a pressure relief valve for overpressure protection in the event of restricted fuel flow.
  10. a fuel tank filler pipe containing: a recirculation tube. a fresh air hose. a restrictor plate to permit only unleaded fuel to be pumped into the tank.

The fuel tank filler pipe cannot be modified in any way.
