Interior Lighting System: Other Ford Focus II

Interior/illumination Lights 33 illustrations ~4553 words

Illuminated Entry

The illuminated entry feature provides illumination of the front interior lamp when approaching the vehicle for entry.

The illuminated entry feature requests the front interior lamp be lit when the ignition is OFF and an UNLOCK request is received from the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter. The interior lights will remain illuminated for 25 seconds after the ignition transitions out of the OFF position or a LOCK request is received.

Illuminated Exit

The illuminated exit feature provides temporary illumination of the interior lights as a convenience during exit.

The illuminated exit feature requests the interior lights be turned on for 25 seconds when all doors are closed and the ignition switch is turned from RUN or ACC to OFF. The illuminated exit feature will request the lamps be turned off when any door is opened, the key is reinserted into the ignition, or 25 seconds has elapsed. Once a door is opened, the interior lighting feature assumes control of the lamps.

Theater Lighting

The theater lighting feature ramps up (turns on) the interior lights over a 0.7 second period when interior lighting activation is requested by a feature other than the panic alarm or the manual interior lighting switch. The theater lighting feature ramps down (turns off) the interior lights over a 1.7 second period when interior lighting deactivation is requested by any feature other than the panic alarm, battery saver or turning off the manual interior lighting switch.

Demand Lighting

The demand lighting feature provides illumination of a specific area of the interior when requested either directly or indirectly by the operator. The demand lamps are

  1. Front dome lamp
  2. Map lamps
  3. Luggage compartment lamp (sedan, 3-door and 5-door)
  4. Cargo lamp (wagon only)

When the operator requests a demand lamp be on, and the battery saver feature has not disabled the demand lamps, the associated light will be on. When the operator requests a demand lamp be off, or the battery saver feature has disabled the demand lamps, the associated light will be off. All other demand lamps will be unaffected by the activation or deactivation of a particular lamp.

The demand lamps feature is operated independently of the ignition state.

Battery Saver

When activated, the battery saver will interrupt power to the interior lighting and the demand lighting. The battery saver feature timing is controlled by the generic electronic module (GEM).

To activate the battery saver feature one of the following events must occur

  1. The ignition is transitioned out of the OFF position.
  2. Any door is opened.
  3. The luggage compartment lid or tailgate is opened.
  4. The hood becomes ajar (only if the vehicle is equipped with a perimeter alarm).
  5. Any button on an RKE transmitter is pressed.

Refer to INTERIOR LIGHTS for schematic and connector information.

  1. H1 CHECK THE FRONT INTERIOR LAMP OPERATION Check the operation of the front interior lamp in both the ON and DOOR positions. Does the front interior lamp operate in both positions? Yes : GO to H2 . No : GO to «PINPOINT TEST A»(ref-255440-S17300298792007053100000) .
  2. H2 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID/LIFTGATE LATCH OPERATION Check the operation of the luggage compartment lid/liftgate latch. Does the luggage compartment lid/liftgate latch operate properly? Yes : GO to H3 . No : GO to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-255423) .
  3. H3 CHECK THE DECKLID/HATCH AJAR PID Key in ON position Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: GEM Door Ajar PIDs. Monitor the GEM decklid/hatch ajar PID while opening and closing the decklid/hatch. Does the decklid/hatch ajar PID agree with the decklid/hatch positions? Yes : GO to H4 . No : GO to H7 .
  4. H4 CHECK CIRCUIT 29-LB25 (OG/BU) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428. Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C428-2, circuit 29-LB25 (OG/BU), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to H5 . No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. H5 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-LB25 (BK/BU) FOR CORRECT OPERATION Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lamp C428-H, circuit 31S-LB25 (BK/BU), harness side and ground with the luggage compartment lid/liftgate open. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the luggage compartment lid/liftgate open? Yes : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lamp assembly. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to H6 .
  6. H6 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-LB25 (BK/BU) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid/Liftgate Latch C430 (Sedan) or C4223 (3-Door and 5-Door). Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lamp C428-1, circuit 31S-LB25 (BK/BU), harness side and the luggage compartment lid latch C430-2 (sedan), circuit 31S-LB25 (BK/BU), harness side, or the liftgate latch C4223-4, circuit 31S-LB1 (BK/BU) (3-door and 5-door), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to «HANDLES LOCKS LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-255423) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. H7 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID/LIFTGATE AJAR CIRCUIT OPERATION Key in OFF position. Disconnect: GEM C201a. Measure the resistance between the GEM C201a-22, circuit 31S-GL20 (BK/RD), harness side and ground with the luggage compartment lid/liftgate open. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms with the luggage compartment lid/liftgate open? Yes : GO to H9 . No : GO to H8 .
  8. H8 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-GL20 (BK/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid/Liftgate Latch C430 (Sedan) or C4223 (3-Door and 5-Door). Measure the resistance between the GEM C201a-22, circuit 31S-GL20 (BK/RD), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new latch. REFER to «HANDLES LOCKS LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-255423) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. H9 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEM OPERATION Disconnect all the GEM connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the GEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new GEM. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-255417) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
