Engine Cooling: Removal & Installation Ford Focus II

Removal and Installation

1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to «ACCESSORY DRIVE»(ref-255400) .
2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-255386-S35525310252007053100000) in this article.
3. Remove the 3 coolant pump pulley bolts and the pulley. To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
4. Remove the 3 coolant pump retaining bolts and the coolant pump. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
6. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-255386-S35525310252007053100000) in this article.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-255374) .
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-255404) .
3. Disconnect the dual electric cooling fan electrical connectors.
4. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-255386-S35525310252007053100000) in this article.
5. Lift and remove the cooling fan motors and shroud from the retainer brackets and lower from the vehicle.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the horn.
7. Release the clamp and disconnect the upper hose from the radiator.
8. Release the clamp and disconnect the lower hose from the radiator.
9. Remove the 5 pushpins and the lower radiator splash shield.
10. Detach and support the air conditioning condenser.
11. Detach the wiring harness retaining clip from the radiator support bracket.
12. Detach the transmission fluid cooler from the 2 RH brackets and the LH bracket. Support the fluid cooler.
13. Remove the 4 bolts and the lower core support. To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
14. Remove the radiator.
15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
16. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-255386-S35525310252007053100000) in this article.

Scheme 6

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-255374) .
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-255404) .
3. Disconnect the dual electric cooling fan electrical connectors.
4. Lift and remove the cooling fan motors and shroud from the retainer brackets and lower from the vehicle.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Scheme 7

1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly turning the pressure relief cap one half turn counterclockwise. When the pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
2. Using hose clamps pliers, clamp the radiator-to-degas bottle hose.
3. Using a suitable suction device, siphon the coolant from the degas bottle.
4. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the degas bottle.
5. Remove the degas bottle bolt. To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
6. Remove the degas bottle. Lift the degas bottle out of the retainer.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
8. Fill the degas bottle. Refer to «COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING»(ref-255386-S35525310252007053100000) for the recommended coolant mixture and fill level.

2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-255404) .
3. Disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
4. Remove the block heater. To install, tighten to 21 Nm (15 lb-ft).
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
