Testing

  1. H1 CHECK THE TRACK ALIGNMENT WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards. NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered. Refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault. NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer. NOTE: The memory seat track motor electrical connectors will connect to a seat track without the memory option. When installing a new seat track, make sure the correct memory or non-memory seat track is being installed. Key in OFF position. WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following: Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . Disconnect the driver seat side air bag C3226 or passenger seat side air bag C3227. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226 or passenger seat side air bag C3227. Connect the battery ground cable. Check the alignment of the track to the floor and the track to the seat. Is the track out of alignment? Result/ Action to Take Yes : ALIGN the track to the seat and the floor. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : INSTALL a new seat track part. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .

The power seat movement should be smooth and the seat cushion should not rock during or after operation.

A loose power seat can be caused by

  1. loose fastening hardware.
  2. a faulty seat track component.

NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer. NOTE: The memory seat track motor electrical connectors will connect to a seat track without the memory option. When installing a new seat track, make sure the correct memory or non-memory seat track is being installed. Key in OFF position. WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following: Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . Disconnect the driver seat side air bag C3226 or passenger seat side air bag C3227. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226 or passenger seat side air bag C3227. Connect the battery ground cable. Key in OFF position. Is the fastening hardware loose? Result/ Action to Take Yes : TIGHTEN all fastening hardware to specification. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : IDENTIFY the cause and INSTALL a new seat track component. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .

The driver power seat should travel fully horizontal (FORWARD/REARWARD) and vertical (front UP/DOWN and rear UP/DOWN). The passenger power seat should travel fully horizontal (FORWARD/REARWARD).

A power seat that does not make full travel can be caused by

  1. an obstruction.
  2. a faulty seat track component.
  1. J1 CHECK FOR AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE SEAT TRACK WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226 or passenger seat side air bag C3227. Connect the battery ground cable. Remove the affected seat. Refer to «SEAT - FRONT»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) in this section. Are there any obstructions in the track? Result/ Action to Take Yes : REMOVE the obstruction(s) and GREASE the track(s). TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : IDENTIFY the cause and INSTALL a new seat track component. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226 or passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .

The driver seat control switch is powered by battery voltage on circuit 956 (OG/LG) and is supplied ground on circuit 1205 (BK). When pressed, the seat control switch supplies the voltage and ground to the applicable driver seat module (DSM) inputs. The DSM then supplies voltage and ground to the appropriate power seat track motor based on the inputs received from the seat control switch. When pressed in the opposite direction, the seat control switch reverses the polarity to the DSM inputs, and the DSM likewise reverses polarity of the appropriate power seat track motor or power recliner motor circuits causing the seat or backrest to move in the opposite direction. There are 3 power seat track motors that combine to move the seat horizontally (FORWARD/REARWARD) and vertically (front UP/DOWN and rear UP/DOWN). The seat backrest power recliner mechanism uses a single motor to move the seat backrest FORWARD and REARWARD.

Battery voltage is also supplied to DSM circuit 566 (DG) and is supplied ground to DSM circuit 1203 (BK/LB).

Each motor, in the memory power seat track and power recliner mechanism contains a Hall-effect position sensor. The DSM supplies a signal feed circuit to each position sensor and a shared reference signal return circuit. Each position sensor sends a signal voltage back to the DSM used to monitor the position of the power seat and seat backrest. The DSM uses this information to return the seat to a stored pre-programmed position when pressing the memory SET switch or a remote entry transmitter. Refer to PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION or the owner's literature for additional information on programming the DSM for storing memory seat positions.

The following pinpoint test diagnoses a memory seat that does not operate in one or more directions when using the seat control switch. If the memory seat moves in all directions using the seat control switch, GO to PINPOINT TEST G .

An inoperative memory seat can be caused by

  1. a fuse.
  2. wiring, terminals or connectors.
  3. a faulty seat control switch.
  4. a faulty power seat track.
  5. a faulty power recliner mechanism.
  6. a faulty DSM.

  1. K1 RETRIEVE THE DTCs WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following: Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . Disconnect driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect the battery ground cable. Connect the scan tool. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Retrieve and Document Continuous DTCs. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Clear the Continuous DTCs. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test. Are any DTCs retrieved? Result/ Action to Take Yes : If DTCs B1663, B1664, B1665 and B1666 are all retrieved, GO to K10 . If DTC B1663, GO to K20 . If DTC B1664, GO to K23 . If DTC B1665, GO to K26 . If DTC B1666, GO to K29 . If DTC B1703, GO to K3 . If DTC B1707, GO to K3 . If DTC B1711, GO to K3 . If DTC B1715, GO to K3 . If DTC B1719, GO to K3 . If DTC B1723, GO to K3 . If DTC B1727, GO to K3 . If DTC B1731, GO to K3 . If DTC B1342, INSTALL a new DSM. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-system) . CONFIGURE the DSM. REFER to «MODULE CONFIGURATION»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/communication-devices/#module-configuration-system) . REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : GO to K2.
  2. K2 MONITOR THE DSM PIDs AND CHECK FOR CORRECT MEMORY SEAT SWITCH INPUTS Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Monitor DSM PIDs: DRIVER SEAT/PEDAL INPUT SWITCH STATUS. Monitor DSM PIDs SFNT_SW, SFWD_SW, SREARSW, and SRCL_SW while activating the seat switch in all positions. Do the PID values agree with the switch positions? Yes : GO to K9 . No : If smart junction box (SJB) F2.10 (7.5A) fails while operating the seat control switch, DISCONNECT the seat control switch C369 and GO to K7 . If SJB F2.10 (7.5A) is OK, GO to K3.
  3. K3 CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C369. Check the seat control switch. Refer to «COMPONENT TESTING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/accessories-control-systems/#component-testing) . Is the seat control switch OK? Yes : GO to K4. No : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to «SEAT CONTROL SWITCH»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) . REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
  4. K4 CHECK CIRCUIT 956 (OG/LG) FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH Measure the voltage between seat control switch C369 pin 5, circuit 956 (OG/LG), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to K5. No : REPAIR the circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
  5. K5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between seat control switch C369 pin 3, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to K6. No : REPAIR the circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
  6. K6 CHECK CIRCUITS 456, 457, 1463, 1464, 1465, 1466, 1467 AND 1468 FOR A SHORT TO POWER Disconnect: DSM C341b. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the following seat control switch C369 pins, harness side and ground. CONNECTOR CIRCUIT REFERENCE Connector C369 Circuit Pin 9 1466 (GY/OG) Pin 4 1465 (GY/WH) Pin 2 1463 (RD/YE) Pin 6 1464 (YE) Pin 11 456 (GY) Pin 8 457 (GY/BK) Pin 12 1467 (GY/YE) Pin 1 1468 (GY/LB) Is voltage indicated? Yes : REPAIR the affected circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : GO to K7.
  7. K7 CHECK CIRCUITS 456, 457, 1463, 1464, 1465, 1466, 1467 AND 1468 FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between the following seat control switch C369 pins, harness side and ground. CONNECTOR CIRCUIT REFERENCE Connector C369 Circuit Pin 9 1466 (GY/OG) Pin 4 1465 (GY/WH) Pin 2 1463 (RD/YE) Pin 6 1464 (YE) Pin 11 456 (GY) Pin 8 457 (GY/BK) Pin 12 1467 (GY/YE) Pin 1 1468 (GY/LB) Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : REPAIR the affected circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : GO to K8.
  8. K8 CHECK CIRCUITS 456, 457, 1463, 1464, 1465, 1466, 1467 AND 1468 FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between the following seat control switch C369 pins, harness side and DSM C341b pins, harness side. SEAT CONTROL SWITCH SPECIFICATION Seat Control Switch C369 Circuit DSM C341b Pin 9 1466 (GY/OG) Pin 15 Pin 4 1465 (GY/WH) Pin 3 Pin 2 1463 (RD/YE) Pin 14 Pin 6 1464 (YE) Pin 2 Pin 11 456 (GY) Pin 17 Pin 8 457 (GY/BK) Pin 5 Pin 12 1467 (GY/YE) Pin 4 Pin 1 1468 (GY/LB) Pin 16 Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : REPAIR the affected circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
  9. K9 CHECK THE DSM FOR CORRECT OUTPUTS USING A DIAGNOSTIC TOOL AND DSM ACTIVE COMMANDS Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Active Commands: DRIVER SEAT OUTPUT CONTROL. Toggle the following DSM active commands ON and OFF while monitoring the seat movement: FRONT MOTOR UP FRONT MOTOR DOWN REAR MOTOR UP REAR MOTOR DOWN HORIZONTAL MOTOR FORWARD HORIZONTAL MOTOR BACKWARD RECLINE MOTOR FORWARD RECLINE MOTOR BACKWARD Does the driver seat operate correctly? Yes : INSTALL a new DSM. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-system) . CONFIGURE the DSM. REFER to «MODULE CONFIGURATION»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/communication-devices/#module-configuration-system) . REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : If no seat movement, GO to K10. If no front vertical seat movement, GO to K20 . If no rear vertical seat movement, GO to K23 . If no horizontal seat movement, GO to K26 . If no recline seat movement, GO to K29 .
  10. K10 CHECK DSM CIRCUIT 566 (DG) FOR VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: DSM C341a. Measure the voltage between DSM C341a pin 2, circuit 566 (DG), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to K11. No : REPAIR the circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new DSM. The driver seat control switch is powered by battery voltage on circuit 956 (OG/LG) and is supplied ground on circuit 1205 (BK). When pressed, the seat control switch supplies the voltage and ground to the applicable driver seat module (DSM) inputs. The DSM then supplies voltage and ground to the appropriate power seat track motor based on the inputs received from the seat control switch. When pressed in the opposite direction, the seat control switch reverses the polarity to the DSM inputs, and the DSM likewise reverses polarity of the appropriate power seat track motor or power recliner motor circuits causing the seat or backrest to move in the opposite direction. There are 3 power seat track motors that combine to move the seat horizontally (FORWARD/REARWARD) and vertically (front UP/DOWN and rear UP/DOWN). The seat backrest power recliner mechanism uses a single motor to move the seat backrest FORWARD and REARWARD.

Battery voltage is also supplied to DSM circuit 566 (DG) and is supplied ground to DSM circuit 1203 (BK/LB).

Each motor, in the memory power seat track and power recliner mechanism contains a Hall-effect position sensor. The DSM supplies a signal feed circuit to each position sensor and a shared reference signal return circuit. Each position sensor sends a signal voltage back to the DSM used to monitor the position of the power seat and seat backrest. The DSM uses this information to return the seat to a stored pre-programmed position when pressing the memory SET switch or a remote entry transmitter. Refer to the owner literature or Principles of Operation in this section. For additional information on programming the DSM for storing memory seat positions.

The following pinpoint test diagnoses a memory seat that does not operate correctly using the memory SET switch. If the memory seat does not move in all directions using the seat control switch, GO to PINPOINT TEST K .

A memory seat that does not operate correctly can be caused by

  1. wiring, terminals or connectors.
  2. a faulty memory SET switch.
  3. a faulty remote entry transmitter.
  4. a faulty memory power seat track.
  5. a faulty recliner mechanism.
  6. a faulty DSM.

  1. L1 RETRIEVE THE DTCs WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards. NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered. Refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a SRS fault. NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer. NOTE: The memory seat track position sensors are integral to the memory seat track motors. The memory seat track motor electrical connectors will connect to a seat track without the memory option. When installing a new seat track, make sure the correct memory or non-memory seat track is being installed. Key in OFF position. WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following: Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . Disconnect driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect the battery ground cable. Connect the scan tool. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Retrieve and Document Continuous DTCs. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Clear Continuous DTCs. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test. NOTE: During the On-Demand Self Test, document when the memory SET LED illuminates and turns off. Are any DTCs retrieved or does the memory SET LED fail to illuminate during the On-Demand Self Test?   2. L2 MONITOR THE DSM PIDs AND CHECK THE DSM FOR CORRECT MEMORY SET SWITCH INPUTS Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Monitor DSM PIDs: MEMORY SET/RECALL INPUT SWITCH STATUS. Monitor the DSM PIDs MEMORY SET SWITCH, MEMORY SET/RECALL 1 SWITCH and MEMORY SET RECALL 2 SWITCH while activating the memory switch SET, recall 1 and recall 2 buttons. Do the PID values agree with the switch button positions? Yes : GO to L8 . No : GO to L3.
  3. L3 CHECK THE MEMORY SET SWITCH Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Memory SET Switch C503. Carry out the Memory SET Switch Component Test. Is the memory SET switch OK? Yes : GO to L4.   4. L4 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) TO THE MEMORY SET SWITCH Key in ON position. Measure the resistance between memory SET switch C503 pin 2, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to L5. No : REPAIR the circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Monitor DSM PID: DRIVER SEAT/MIRROR/PEDAL SENSOR OUTPUT STATUS. Monitor the DSM PIDs SFNT_MT, SREARMT, SFWD_MT and SRCL_MT. Does each PID indicate SENSED? Yes : INSTALL a new DSM. Measure the voltage between driver seat recliner motor C3187 pin 4, circuit 449 (BN/PK), harness side and ground; and between driver seat recliner motor C3187 pin 3, circuit 452 (GY/RD), harness side and ground. Is voltage indicated? Yes : REPAIR the affected circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS.   19. L19 CHECK CIRCUITS 449 (BN/PK) AND 452 (GY/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between driver seat recliner motor C3187 pin 4, circuit 449 (BN/PK), harness side and ground; and between driver seat recliner motor C3187 pin 3, circuit 452 (GY/RD), harness side and ground. Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? Yes : GO to L20. No : REPAIR the affected circuit. REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. L20 CHECK CIRCUITS 449 (BN/PK) AND 452 (GY/RD) FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between driver seat recliner motor C3187 pin 4, circuit 449 (BN/PK), harness side and DSM C341b pin 6, circuit 449 (BN/PK), harness side; and between driver seat recliner motor C3187 pin 3, circuit 452 (GY/RD), harness side and DSM C341b pin 20, circuit 452 (GY/RD), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat recliner assembly. REFER to «SEAT RECLINER»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/seats/#seat-system) . REPEAT the self-test. The driver and passenger heated seat modules share a common battery and ignition feed and have a separate ground source. The electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) module includes the heated seat control buttons and indicators. The heated seat system will function when the EATC module is ON or OFF. When a heated seat control button on the EATC module is pressed with the ignition switch in RUN or START, a momentary ground signal is sent to the heated seat module. Upon receiving a signal, the heated seat module will decrease one setting (the sequence is HI, LO, OFF, HI, etc.). When the heated seat system is ON, the heated seat module then supplies power to the heating element circuit. The cushion element and backrest element are wired in series and powered by the same output. The heated seat module will remain on for 10 minutes or until the heated seat control button is pressed to cycle the heated seat module to the OFF state. If the ignition source is removed from the module, the heated seat module will enter an OFF state and will not return to ON until the heated seat control button is once again pressed with the ignition switch in RUN.

An inoperative heated seat can be caused by

  1. open fuse.
  2. wiring, terminals or connectors.
  3. a faulty heated seat element.
  4. a faulty heated seat module.
  5. a faulty EATC module.

  1. M1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards. NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered. Refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault. NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer. Key in OFF position. WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following: Depower the SRS. Disconnect driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect the battery ground cable. Disconnect: Driver Heated Seat Module C359. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359 pin 12, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side and ground; and between driver heated seat module C359 pin 5, circuit 972 (BK/WH), harness side and ground. Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? Result/ Action to Take Yes : GO to M2. No : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
  2. M2 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE GROUND Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359 pin 1, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to M3. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS.   3. M3 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359 pin 3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground; and between C359 pin 4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground. Is voltage present on either circuit? Yes : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : GO to M4.
  4. M4 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359 pin 3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and C359 pin 4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side; and between C359 pin 3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground. Is the resistance between 50 ohms and 300,000 ohms between C359 pin 3 and pin 4 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359 pin 3 and ground? Yes : GO to M7 . No : GO to M5.
  5. M5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1060 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heated Seat Element C364. Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359 pin 4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and driver seat cushion heated seat element C364 pin 2, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359 pin 4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359 pin 4 and C364 pin 2; and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359 pin 4 and ground? Yes : GO to M6. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359 pin 3 and C364 pin 3; and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359 pin 3 and ground? Yes : INSTALL a new driver seat cushion heated seat element. Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359 pin 6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground; and between C359 pin 7, circuit 1067 (VT/LB), harness side and ground. Is voltage present on either circuit? Yes : REPAIR circuit 1064 (YE/LB), circuit 1067 (VT/LB) or circuit 1066 (GY/LB) for short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226.   8. M8 CHECK THE SEAT CUSHION HEATED SEAT ELEMENT AND SEAT BACK HEATED SEAT ELEMENT CIRCUITS Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359 pin 6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and C359 pin 7, circuit 1067 (VT/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359 pin 6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground Is the resistance between 1.6 ohms and 10 ohms between C359 pin 6 and pin 7 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359 pin 6 and ground? Yes : GO to M13 . No : GO to M9.
  9. M9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1064 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heated Seat Element C364. Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359 pin 6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and driver seat cushion heated seat element C364 pin 1, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359 pin 6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359 pin 6 and C364 pin 1 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359 pin 6 and ground? Yes : GO to M10. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359 pin 7, circuit 1067 (VT/LB), harness side and driver seat backrest heated seat element C365 pin 1, circuit 1067 (VT/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359 pin 7, circuit 1067 (VT/LB), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359 pin 7 and C365 pin 1; and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359 pin 7 and ground? Yes : GO to M11. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to M16. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS.   16. M16 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE Connect: Driver Heated Seat Module C359. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between EATC module C228b pin 7, circuit 580 (BN), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b pin 8, circuit 579 (BK/OG), harness side and ground. Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? Yes : GO to M18 . No : GO to M17.
  17. M17 CHECK CIRCUITS 580 (BN) AND 579 (BK/OG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Heated Seat Module C359. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between EATC module C228b pin 7, circuit 580 (BN), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b pin 8, circuit 579 (BK/OG), harness side and ground. Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? Yes : INSTALL a new heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. No : REPAIR the shorted circuits. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS.   19. M19 CHECK THE EATC MODULE OUTPUT Connect: EATC Module C228b. Connect: Driver Heated Seat Module C359. Key in ON position. NOTE: The voltage on circuit 1255 (WH/RD) should drop momentarily when the driver heated seat control button is pressed. Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359 pin 8, circuit 1255 (WH/RD), harness side and ground by back-probing driver heated seat module C359 pin 8. Press the driver heated seat control button on the EATC module and note the voltage. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts before pressing the driver heated seat control button, then momentarily drops when the heated seat control button is pressed? Yes : INSTALL a new driver heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. No : If the voltage is greater than 10 volts but did not drop when the driver heated seat button was pressed, INSTALL a new EATC module. REFER to «CONTROL COMPONENTS»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/ac-compressor/#hvac-system-control-components) . TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . If the voltage is less than 10 volts, INSTALL a new driver heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. The driver and passenger heated seat modules share a common battery and ignition feed and have a separate ground source. The electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) module includes the heated seat control buttons and indicators. The heated seat system will function when the EATC module is ON or OFF. When a heated seat control button on the EATC module is pressed with the ignition switch in RUN or START, a momentary ground signal is sent to the heated seat module. Upon receiving a signal, the heated seat module will decrease one setting (the sequence is HI, LO, OFF, HI, etc.). When the heated seat system is ON, the heated seat module then supplies power to the heating element circuit. The cushion element and backrest element are wired in series and powered by the same output. The heated seat module will remain on for 10 minutes or until the heated seat control button is pressed to cycle the heated seat module to the OFF state. If the ignition source is removed from the module, the heated seat module will enter an OFF state and will not return to ON until the heated seat control button is once again pressed with the ignition switch in RUN.

An inoperative heated seat can be caused by

  1. open fuse.
  2. wiring, terminals or connectors.
  3. a faulty heated seat element.
  4. a faulty heated seat module.
  5. a faulty EATC module.

  1. N1 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards. NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered. Refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault. Disconnect: Passenger Heated Seat Module C329. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 12, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side and ground; and between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 5, circuit 972 (BK/WH), harness side and ground. Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? Result/ Action to Take Yes : GO to N2. No : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227.   2. N2 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE GROUND Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 1, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to N3. No : REPAIR circuit 1205 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227.   3. N3 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 3, circuit 2121 (BN/LB), harness side and ground; and between C329 pin 4, circuit 2120 (BK/LB), harness side and ground. Is voltage present on either circuit? Yes : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . No : GO to N4.
  4. N4 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 3, circuit 2121 (BN/LB), harness side and C329 pin 4, circuit 2120 (BK/LB), harness side; and between C329 pin 3, circuit 2121 (BN/LB), harness side and ground. Is the resistance between 50 ohms and 300,000 ohms between C329 pin 3 and pin 4 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C329 pin 3 and ground? Yes : GO to N7 . No : GO to N5.
  5. N5 CHECK CIRCUIT 2120 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND Disconnect: Passenger Seat Cushion Heated Seat Element C334. Measure the resistance between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 4, circuit 2120 (BK/LB), harness side and passenger seat cushion heated seat element C334 pin 2, circuit 2120 (BK/LB), harness side; and between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 4, circuit 2120 (BK/LB), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C329 pin 4 and C334 pin 2; and greater than 10,000 ohms between C329 pin 4 and ground? Yes : GO to N6. No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. Measure the resistance between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 6, circuit 2124 (YE/LB), harness side and passenger seat cushion heated seat element C334 pin 1, circuit 2124 (YE/LB), harness side; and between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 6, circuit 2124 (YE/LB), harness side and ground. Measure the voltage between EATC module C228b pin 20, circuit 2070 (GY/LB), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b pin 21, circuit 2069 (VT/LG), harness side and ground. Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? Yes : GO to N18 . No : GO to N17.
  17. N17 CHECK CIRCUITS 2070 (GY/LB) AND 2069 (VT/LG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Passenger Heated Seat Module C329. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between EATC module C228b pin 20, circuit 2070 (GY/LB), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b pin 21, circuit 2069 (VT/LG), harness side and ground. Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? Yes : INSTALL a new heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. Upon receiving a signal from the electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) module, the heated seat module will decrease one setting (the sequence is HI, LO, OFF, HI, etc.). When a heated seat is set to HI, both LED indicators above the heated seat control button will illuminate. When a heated seat is set to LO, only the left LED indicator will illuminate. When a heated seat is set to OFF, neither LED will be illuminated.

An inoperative heated seat indicator can be caused by

  1. wiring, terminals or connectors.
  2. a faulty heated seat module.
  3. a faulty EATC module.

  1. O1 CHECK CIRCUITS 580 (BN) AND 579 (BK/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards. NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered. Refer to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) . NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault. NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer. Key in OFF position. WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected. Disconnect driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226. Connect the battery ground cable. Disconnect: EATC Module C228b. Disconnect: Driver Heated Seat Module C359. Measure the resistance between EATC module C228b pin 7, circuit 580 (BN), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b pin 8, circuit 579 (BK/OG), harness side and ground. Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? Result/ Action to Take Yes : GO to O2. No : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
  2. O2 CHECK CIRCUITS 580 (BN) AND 579 (BK/OG) FOR AN OPEN Key in ON position. Measure the resistance between EATC module C228b pin 7, circuit 580 (BN), harness side and driver heated seat module C359 pin 9, circuit 580 (BN), harness side; and between EATC module C228b pin 8, circuit 579 (BK/OG), harness side and driver heated seat module C359 pin 10, circuit 579 (BK/OG), harness side. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to O3. No : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. CONNECT driver seat side air bag module C3226. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
  3. O3 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE HI INDICATOR ON THE EATC MODULE Connect: EATC Module C228b. Key in ON position. Connect a fused jumper lead between driver heated seat module C359 pin 10, circuit 579 (BK/OG), harness side and C359 pin 12, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side. Do both driver heated seat indicator LEDs illuminate on the EATC module? Yes : GO to O4. No : INSTALL a new EATC module. REFER to «CONTROL COMPONENTS»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/ac-compressor/#hvac-system-control-components) . TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. O4 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE HI INDICATOR ON THE EATC MODULE Connect a fused jumper lead between driver heated seat module C359 pin 9, circuit 580 (BN), harness side and C359 pin 12, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side. Does only the left driver heated seat indicator LED illuminate on the EATC module? Yes : INSTALL a new driver heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat side air bag module C3226. Remove the memory SET switch.

Measure the resistance between the following indicated terminals while pressing the requested switches.

To check the memory SET switch LED, connect the positive meter lead to terminal 2 and the negative lead to terminal 8. The meter should indicate greater than 0.3 volts. Reversing the leads, the meter should read OL.

If the meter readings are not as indicated above, install a new switch; otherwise, return to the calling Pinpoint Test.
