Bumpers

The bumper section consists of the following

  1. Front bumper cover
  2. Rear bumper cover
  3. Bumper isolators
  4. Front bumper
  5. Rear bumper

Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the 2 front bumper cover scrivets.
  2. Remove the 2 front bumper cover bolts. To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  3. Remove the 3 front bumper cover lower retainers.
  4. Remove the 6 front bumper cover wheel house screws. To install, tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).
  5. If equipped, disconnect the fog lamps electrical connector.
  6. Remove the front bumper cover.
  7. Inspect the bumper cover mounting reinforcements for damage. If necessary, install new bumper cover mounting reinforcements.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the 2 front bumper cover scrivets.
  2. Remove the 2 front bumper cover bolts.
  3. Remove the 3 front bumper cover lower retainers.
  4. Release the 6 lower wheel lip molding scrivets from the LH and RH wheel lip moldings.
  5. If equipped, disconnect the fog lamps electrical connector.
  6. Remove the 6 front bumper cover nuts. To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
  7. Release the LH and RH wheel lip molding tabs, and remove the front bumper cover.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Special Tool(s)

SPECIAL TOOLS DESCRIPTION Heavy Duty Riveter 501-D011 (D80L-23200-A) or equivalent

Scheme 17: Removal and Installation
  1. Remove the front bumper cover. For additional information, refer to «FRONT BUMPER COVER - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) or «FRONT BUMPER COVER - FREESTYLE»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) .
  2. If equipped, remove the rivets and position the block heater electrical adapter aside. When installing the block heater electrical adapter, the special tool must be used to install the new rivets.
  3. If equipped, drill out the 2 tack welds on each side of the front bumper.
  4. Remove the front bumper bolts. To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
  5. Remove the front bumper.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the rear lamps. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting-system) .
  2. Remove the 6 rear bumper cover screws in the wheel well. To install, tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb-in).
  3. From inside the luggage compartment, remove the luggage compartment trim panel.
  4. Remove the 3 rear bumper cover pin-type retainers on underside of beam.
  5. Remove the 6 rear bumper cover nuts. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  6. If equipped, disconnect the rear parking aid electrical connector.
  7. Remove the rear bumper cover.
  8. Inspect the bumper cover mounting reinforcements for damage. If necessary, install new bumper cover mounting reinforcements before installation.
  9. Inspect the spacer block on center of beam for damage. If necessary, install a new spacer block before installation.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Remove the rear lamps. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting-system) .
  2. If equipped, disconnect the rear parking aid electrical connector.
  3. Remove the 5 rear bumper cover scrivets from liftgate opening.
  4. Remove the 2 rear bumper cover pin-type retainers from the bottom of the beam.
  5. Remove the 2 bolts from the bumper cover-to-bumper cover mounting reinforcements.
  6. Remove the rear bumper cover.
  7. Inspect the bumper cover mounting reinforcements for damage. If necessary, install new bumper cover mounting reinforcements.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

SPECIAL TOOLS DESCRIPTION Heavy Duty Riveter 501-D011 (D80L-23200-A) or equivalent

  1. Remove the rear bumper cover. For additional information, refer to «REAR BUMPER COVER - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) or «REAR BUMPER COVER - FREESTYLE»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) .
  2. Remove the 4 rear bumper nuts. To install, tighten rear bumper nuts to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). To install, tighten rear bumper double-ended studs to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  3. Remove the rear bumper.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Inspect the rear bumper double-ended studs for damage. If necessary, install new rear bumper double-ended studs. Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  1. Remove the rear bumper. For additional information, refer to «REAR BUMPER»(/ford/five-hundred/i-2004-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) .
  2. Remove the rear bumper bracket bolts. To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  3. Remove the rear bumper bracket.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
