TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

There are 3 types of 4WD operating systems

  1. All wheel drive (AWD)
  2. One-speed torque-on-demand (TOD)
  3. Two-speed TOD

1-Speed Torque-On-Demand (TOD)

The one-speed TOD system utilizes the following components

  1. Transfer case
  2. Electromagnetic clutch (internal to the transfer case)
  3. 4X4 control module
  4. Message center, used to select between AUTO and LOCKED modes.

2-Speed Torque-On-Demand (TOD)

The automatic 4WD system is a 2-speed TOD design that utilizes the following components

  1. Transfer case
  2. Electromagnetic clutch (internal to the transfer case)
  3. 4X4 control module
  4. Mode select switch (MSS), used to select between 4X4 AUTO, 4X4 HIGH and 4X4 LOW modes
  5. Transfer case shift motor
  6. Encoder assembly (part of the transfer case shift motor)
  7. Shift motor sense plate (part of the encoder assembly)
