Normal Operation

Under normal operation the exterior mirror control switch receives power through circuit SBP23 (WH/RD) and ground through circuit GD133 (BK). The exterior mirror control switch uses circuit CPM23 (GY) as the common circuit for both exterior mirror up/down and right/left movement.

Possible Causes

  1. Open in circuits SBP23 (WH/RD) or GD133 (BK)
  2. Open, short to ground or short to power in circuit CPM23 (GY)
  3. Inoperative exterior mirror control switch
  4. Fuse

  1. A1 CHECK POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX (PDB) FUSE 2 (50A) Key in OFF position. Check fuse: Fuse F2.16 (5A) Is the fuse OK? YES : Go to A2 . NO : INSTALL a new fuse. TEST the system for normal operation. If the fuse fails again, CHECK for a short to ground. REPAIR as necessary.
  2. A2 CHECK CIRCUIT SBP23 (WH/RD) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C527 Measure the voltage between exterior mirror control switch C527-3, circuit SBP23 (WH/RD) harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to A3 . NO : VERIFY SJB fuse 23 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK CIRCUIT GD133 (BK) FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-1, circuit GD133 (BK) harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : Go to A4 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. A4 CHECK CIRCUIT CPM23 (GY) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between exterior mirror control switch C527-6, circuit CPM23 (GY) harness side and ground. Is any voltage indicated? YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. NO : Go to A5 .
  5. A5 CHECK CIRCUIT CPM23 (GY) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-6, circuit CPM23 (GY) harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? YES : Go to A6 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. A6 CHECK CIRCUIT CPM23 (GY) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: LH Exterior Mirror C520 Measure the resistance between LH exterior mirror C520-3, circuit CPM23 (GY) and exterior mirror control switch C527-6, circuit CPM23 (GY) harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Control Switch»(ref-270939-S00198842862007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST system for normal operation.

Under normal operation the exterior mirror control switch uses circuit CPM23 (GY) as the common circuit for both exterior mirror up/down and right/left movement.

  1. B1 CHECK THE LH AND RH EXTERIOR MIRRORS Operate the exterior mirrors. Does the LH exterior mirror operate? YES : Go to B2 . NO : Go to B4 .
  2. B2 CHECK CIRCUIT CPM23 (GY) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: RH Exterior Mirror C601 Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C527 Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-6, circuit CPM23 (GY) and RH exterior mirror C601-3, circuit CPM23 (GY) and the harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : Go to B3 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. B3 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH IN THE RH POSITION Place the exterior mirror control switch selector in the right exterior mirror position. Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch pin 3, circuit SBP23 (WH/RD), component side and exterior mirror control switch pin 2, circuit CPM18 (GN/BN) component side while holding the exterior mirror control switch in the up position. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : CHECK the RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the RH exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits, and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, INSTALL a new RH mirror. Otherwise, INSTALL a new RH exterior mirror motor. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Motor»(ref-270939-S36098834332007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Control Switch»(ref-270939-S00198842862007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. B4 CHECK CIRCUIT CPM23 (GY) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: LH Exterior Mirror C520 Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C527 Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-6, circuit CPM23 (GY) and LH exterior mirror C520-3, circuit CPM23 (GY) harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : Go to B5 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH IN THE LH POSITION Place the exterior mirror control switch selector in the left exterior mirror position. Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch pin 3, circuit SBP23 (WH/RD), component side and exterior mirror control switch pin 5, circuit CPM16 (YE/RD) component side while holding the exterior mirror control switch in the up position. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : CHECK the LH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the LH exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits, and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, INSTALL a new LH mirror. Otherwise, INSTALL a new LH exterior mirror motor. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Motor»(ref-270939-S36098834332007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Control Switch»(ref-270939-S00198842862007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation.

Under normal operation the exterior mirror control switch uses circuits CPM16 (YE/RD), CPM14 (GY/BN), CPM23 (GY), CPM19 (GY/DG) or CPM18 (GN/BN) to control the exterior mirror movement.

  1. When ground is received through circuit CPM16 (YE/RD)/CPM19 (GY/OG) and power through circuit CPM23 (GY), the LH/RH exterior mirror will operate left.
  2. When power is received through circuit CPM16 (YE/RD)/CPM19 (GY/OG) and ground through circuit CPM23 (GY), the LH/RH exterior mirror will operate right.
  3. When power is received through circuit CPM14 (GY/BN)/CPM18 (GN/BN) and ground through circuit CPM23 (GY), the LH/RH exterior mirror will operate up.
  4. When ground is received through circuit CPM14 (GY/BN)/CPM18 (GN/BN) and power through circuit CPM23 (GY), the LH/RH exterior mirror will operate down.

Possible Causes

  1. Open in circuits CPM16 (YE/RD), CPM14 (GY/BN), CPM19 (GY/OG) or CPM18 (GN/BN)
  2. Inoperative exterior mirror control switch
  3. Inoperative exterior mirror motor

  1. C1 CHECK THE MIRROR MOVEMENT (LEFT/RIGHT) Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors in the left and right direction. Do the exterior mirrors move left and right? YES : Go to C2 . NO : Go to C3 .
  2. C2 CHECK MIRROR MOVEMENT (UP/DOWN) Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors in the up and down direction. Do the exterior mirrors move up and down? YES : System is OK. NO : Go to C4 .
  3. C3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Inoperative Exterior Mirror C520 or C601 While operating the exterior mirror control switch in the right direction, measure the voltage between RH exterior mirror C601-7, circuit CPM19 (GY/DG) or LH exterior mirror C520-7, circuit CPM16 (YE/RD) harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : CHECK the suspect exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the suspect exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits, and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. Otherwise, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Motor»(ref-270939-S36098834332007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : Go to C5 .
  4. C4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR Disconnect: Inoperative Exterior Mirror C520 or C601 While operating the exterior mirror control switch in the down direction, measure the voltage between RH exterior mirror C601-1, circuit CPM18 (GN/BN) or LH exterior mirror C520-1, circuit CPM14 (GY/BN) harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : CHECK the suspect exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the suspect exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits, and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. Otherwise, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Motor»(ref-270939-S36098834332007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : Go to C6 .
  5. C5 CHECK CIRCUIT CPM16 (YE/RD) AND CIRCUIT CPM19 (GY/OG) FOR AN OPEN For an inoperative RH mirror, measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-7, circuit CPM19 (GY/OG) and RH exterior mirror C601-7, circuit CPM19 (GY/OG), harness side. For an inoperative LH mirror, measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-8, circuit CPM16 (YE/RD) and LH exterior mirror C520-7, circuit CPM16 (YE/RD), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Control Switch»(ref-270939-S00198842862007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REPAIR circuit CPM16 (YE/RD) or circuit CPM19 (GY/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. C6 CHECK CIRCUIT CPM14 (GY/BN) AND CIRCUIT CPM18 (GN/BN) FOR AN OPEN For an inoperative LH mirror, measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-5, circuit CPM14 (GY/BN) and LH exterior mirror C520-1, circuit CPM14 (GY/BN), harness side. For an inoperative RH mirror, measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch C527-2, circuit CPM18 (GN/BN) and RH exterior mirror C601-1, circuit CPM18 (GN/BN), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. REFER to «Exterior Mirror Control Switch»(ref-270939-S00198842862007110700000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : REPAIR circuit CPM14 (GY/BN) or circuit CPM18 (GN/BN). TEST the system for normal operation.

Under normal operation the auto-dimming mirror receives power from circuit C_CBP18 (GY/OG) and ground from circuit GD133 (BK). If the vehicle is placed in REVERSE, voltage is sent to circuit CBP15 (BN/DB) and the auto-dimming mirror will turn the dimming feature OFF.

Possible Causes

  1. Open in circuit C_CBP18 (GY/OG), GD133 (BK) or CBP15 (BN/DB)
  2. Inoperative auto-dimming mirror

Under normal operation when the rear window defrost is ON the heated exterior mirrors receive power from the heated grid relay through circuit B_CPP13 (GY/BN). The LH heated exterior mirror receives ground through circuit GD133 (BK), and the RH heated exterior mirror receives ground through circuit GD151 (BK/GN).

Possible Causes

  1. Open in circuits B_CPP13 (GY/BN), GD133 (BK) or GD151 (BK/GN)
  2. Damaged exterior mirror glass
  3. Inoperative rear window defrost system

  1. E1 CHECK THE HEATED REAR WINDOW SWITCH OPERATION Key in ON position. Place the heated rear window switch in the ON position. Does the heated rear window switch illuminate? YES : Go to E2 . NO : REFER to «GLASS, FRAMES AND MECHANISMS»(ref-270913) to diagnose the rear window defrost system.
  2. E2 CHECK CIRCUIT B_CPP13 (GY/BN) FOR VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Left Heated Exterior Mirror C520 Disconnect: Right Heated Exterior Mirror C601 Key in ON position. Measure the voltages between LH heated exterior mirror C520-4, circuit B_CPP13 (GY/BN) and RH heated exterior mirror C601-4, circuit B_CPP13 (GY/BN) harness side and ground. Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to E3 . NO : VERIFY SJB fuse 13 (15A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. E3 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR GROUND CIRCUIT GD133 (BK) OR GD151 (BK/GN) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: LH Heated Exterior Mirror C520/RH Heated Exterior Mirror C601 Measure the resistance between LH heated exterior mirror C520-5, circuit GD133 (BK) or RH heated exterior mirror C601-5, circuit GD151 (BK/GN) harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new exterior mirror glass. REFER to «Exterior Mirrors - Exploded View»(ref-270939-S32064970072007110700000) and «Exterior Mirror Glass»(ref-270939-S04705380972007110700000) . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

Under normal operation when the rear window defrost is ON the LH heated exterior mirror receives power from the heated grid relay through circuit B_CPP13 (GY/BN), and ground through circuit GD133 (BK)

Possible Causes

  1. Open in circuits B_CPP13 (GY/BN) or GD133 (BK)
  2. Damaged exterior mirror glass

Scheme 16: PINPOINT TEST F: THE HEATED EXTERIOR MIRROR IS INOPERATIVE - LH HEATED EXTERIOR MIRROR
  1. F1 CHECK CIRCUIT B_CPP13 (GY/BN) FOR VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: LH Heated Exterior Mirror C520 Key in ON position. Place the heated rear window switch in the ON position. Measure the voltage between LH heated exterior mirror C520-4, circuit B_CPP13 (GY/BN) harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? YES : Go to F2 . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. F2 CHECK CIRCUIT GD133 (BK) FOR OPEN Key in OFF position. Measure the resistance between LH heated exterior mirror C520-5, circuit GD133 (BK) harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? YES : INSTALL a new exterior mirror glass. REFER to «Exterior Mirrors - Exploded View»(ref-270939-S32064970072007110700000) and «Exterior Mirror Glass»(ref-270939-S04705380972007110700000) . NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

Under normal operation when the rear window defrost is ON, the RH heated exterior mirror receives power from the heated grid relay through circuit B_CPP13 (GY/BN), and ground through circuit GD151 (BK/GN).

Possible Causes

  1. Open in circuits B_CPP13 (GY/BN) or GD151 (BK/GN)
  2. Damaged exterior mirror glass
