Transfer Case - Power Transfer Unit (Ptu): Removal & Installation Ford Escape III

Removal

1. Remove the PTU output flange. Refer to «OUTPUT FLANGE»(ref-569566-S05941400102013072700000) .

Installation

1. Special Tool(s): Installer, Output Seal 308-877.
2. Install the PTU output flange. Refer to «OUTPUT FLANGE»(ref-569566-S05941400102013072700000) .

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-569550) . Vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI
2. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-569570) . All vehicles

All vehicles

1. Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). Vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI .
2. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-569570) .

2. Remove the driveshaft. Refer to «DRIVESHAFT»(ref-569565) . Vehicles equipped with 1.6L GTDI
3. Vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI
4. Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor. Refer to «ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS»(ref-569601) .
5. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-569570) . All vehicles
6. Remove the RH halfshaft. Refer to «FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS»(ref-569562) .

1. Inspect and replace the o-ring seal if damaged.
2. Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
3. Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
4. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
5. Install the RH halfshaft. Refer to «FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS»(ref-569562) .
6. Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). Vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI
7. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-569570) .
8. Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). Vehicles equipped with 1.6L GTDI
9. All vehicles
10. Install the driveshaft. Refer to «DRIVESHAFT»(ref-569565) .
11. Apply the specified lubricant to the specified component.
12. Tighten to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft).

1. Remove the PTU. Refer to «POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU)»(ref-569566-S38521648302013072700000) .

1. Special Tool(s): Handle 205-153 (T80T-4000-W), Installer, Inboard Cover Seal 308-875.
2. Tighten to 14 Nm (124 lb-in).
3. Install the PTU. Refer to «POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU)»(ref-569566-S38521648302013072700000) .
